Dear AOSpine ParticipantsOn behalf of AOSpine Asia Pacific, we would like to welcome you to the AOSpine Asia Pacific Interactive Course, held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. For this three day program, we will combine Principles, Advances and Masters level programs along with a one day Cadaver Workshop.

Four simultaneous Advanced Courses will feature 4 interactive modules, covering lumbar degeneration, cervical degeneration, deformity and spinal trauma. Participants will have the opportunity, not only to learn these important subjects from first class faculty, but also from ‘hands-on’ practical workshops.

All the sessions are highly interactive – we urge each one of you to take an active part in the lectures and discussions, to ask questions, and to raise controversies. Please bring your own cases to the courses as there is ample time allocated for discussion.

We invite you to enjoy the unique atmosphere of Malaysia, the beauty of Kuala Lumpur which represents the heartbeat of this country and, above all, a great educational experience.

Sincerely,

Lumbar degeneration moduleBack pain is a leading cause for taking time off work. Its cost in terms of loss of man hours and suffering is immense. Lumbar degenerative diseases from the bulk of a spine surgeon's practice. The program is designed in five sessions to provide a comprehensive overview of degenerative diseases of the lumbar spine.

Cervical degeneration moduleWith an increasing aging population, degenerative diseases of the cervical spine have become a significant part of the workload of most spine surgeons. The emphasis of this module is on providing a comprehensive overview of the more complex problems affecting the cervical spine which confront a busy surgeon. The aim will be to present the current evidence base available to guide management.

Deformity moduleThe key concepts of deformity classification, treatment and current controversies will be examined in this module. Adolescent, congenital and degenerative scoliosis, kyphosis and spondylolisthesis are covered in separate sessions.

Tumors & infections moduleThis module is designed to provide a comprehensive overview of the management of spinal tumors and infections. The first session focuses on primary vertebral tumors, the next on metastatic tumors. The third session is about intradural tumors. Survival and quality of life after surgery are included in this module. The last two sessions focus on spinal infections-one session exclusively for tuberculosis and the last on pyogenic and other infections.

Spinal trauma moduleThis module is designed to offer a comprehensive overview of the common spinal trauma pattern encountered by a spine surgeon. The first two sessions focus on cervical spinal injury and the next two on thoracolumbar trauma. The final session is focused on osteoporotic fractures, which now form an increasing part of the clinical workload, given an increasing againg population.

Aim of the course

Target participantsPrinciples levelTarget participants with less than 3 years of spine surgery experience or surgeons udergoing training in a new technique or procedure.
