AOASMAMERICAN OSTEOPATHIC ACADEMY OF SPORTS MEDICINE
29th Annual Clinical Conference • March 19–22, 2014Westin Tampa Harbour Island Hotel • Tampa, Florida
“Wide World of Sports Medicine”Dear Conference Attendees,
On behalf of the American Osteopathic Academy of Sports Medicine Board of Directors, Conference Planning Committee, and the city of Tampa, Florida, it is my pleasure to personally welcome you to the 29th Annual Clinical Conference of the AOASM. This year’s conference is centered around examining the “Wide World of Sports Medicine” from different perspectives in athlete care and athletic populations. The conference contains lectures to address injury concerns and training and conditioning issues that are unique to different athletic populations and ages. Lectures are dedicated to examining specific and unique experiences within the world of sports medicine including youth athletics, NCAA athletic experiences, professional baseball, and Olympic Team physician settings. To complete the wide world of practice experiences in sports medicine lecturers also involve educational pearls regarding performance medicine, travel medicine, law enforcement medicine, and the industrial athlete. Additional lecturers centered around insight into the world of regenerative medicine and performance enhancing drugs and supplementation will help round out the comprehensive educational mission of the American Osteopathic Academy of Sports Medicine.
In the past number of years the application of MSK Ultrasound in the field of sports medicine has continued to grow and offer superior diagnostic and treatment tools to the clinician. We have continued our commitment to educating sports medicine physicians in MSK Ultrasound by again arranging a Pre-Conference MSK Ultrasound Workshop with the help and supports of our Sonosite sponsors. This educational workshop is delivered by an expert array of faculty and offers a program for both MSK Ultrasound beginners and more advanced physicians.
The ongoing participation of medical students, residents, and sports medicine fellows in the research symposium portion of the conference is always of paramount benefit in our growth of our field into the future. The research symposium will provide the opportunity to discuss and compare unique diagnoses and treatments of individual case presentation and also allow for the education in developing research ideas and challenges within the field of sports medicine.
The Wide World of Sports Medicine is an ever-evolving discipline currently in an exciting time of advancement in research and training opportunities. The beautiful city of Tampa, Florida amidst MLB Spring Training in the Grapefruit League provides an excellent environment to reaffirm the integrative principles and advances of Osteopathic Sports Medicine. I am looking forward to meeting all of you, and wish you the most enjoyable, educational, and collegial experiences with the AOASM.
Sincerely,
R. Scott Cook, D.O., FAOASMProgram Chair, AOASM 2014 Annual Clinical Conference
