The Class of 1984 “30th Reunion Weekend Extravaganza” began with a Kick-Off “Meet and Greet” at the Annual Homecoming Football Game on October 10, 2014. The Lecture Hall became a room full of Griffins with many staff members stopping by to visit and reminisce. Saturday night was filled with dinner and dancing at The Crystal Point in Point Pleasant, with music by their very own Bobby Fontinelli and the band Sneekbox. The water- view room was glowing with blue and white lights and memorabilia from their old Alma Mater …everything from old uniforms, newspaper articles, and photos.

Class members experienced fun and smiles in the photo booth. They strolled down memory lane as they watched a video montage of their four years, up on the big screen! Their final celebration was held at Jenkinson’s Pavilion with brunch and a trip down the boardwalk on Sunday.

The reunion was spear headed by Ann Michele Thompson Sayers, Mercedes Nola, Michael Fogarty, Andrea Crowley-Papageorgiou, Tom Lebel, Mark Malland, Terri O’Neil, Sean Asay, Lisa Carny - Kay and Tony Fevola. The Class of 1984 raised $2,186 which they generously donated to purchase 2 lamp posts for the high school in honor of the friends that left this earth too soon: Tommy Gilroy, Pete Fanuele, Charlie Bitter, Gary Washburn, and Dawn Sutter. The Class of 1984 has created a Scholarship Fund to continue the legacy the way their high school taught them!!!

A 50th Birthday Bash for the entire class is in the works for their next Get-Together…details to follow!!!

Graduation 2014The 49th Commencement of Monsignor Donovan High School took place on June 9, 2014 in St. Joseph’s Church, marking the last graduating class from MDHS. We are happy to welcome182 new alumni.

Bishop David O’Connell of the Diocese of Trenton presided at the Baccalaureate Mass assisted by Father Scott Shaffer, Pastor and Director of the school, Msgr. Kenard J. Tuzeneu, Pastor of St. Mary’s Parish, Barnegat, Father Fernando Lopez of St. Aloysius, Father Gary Koch and Father Carlos Aquinos both of St. Joseph’s Church. Bishop O’Connell tied the celebration of graduation together with the Feast of the Pentecost, sending the message, “Go forth in faith with all you have learned; make a difference by being different, being Catholic, being just, and being holy”

Father Scott along with Principal Dr. Edward Gere, conferred diplomas on the Class of 2014. Ninety-five percent of the class will attend college and were awarded $22,186,276.00 in collegiate grant and/or scholarship money. Throughout the course of their senior year, six members of the Class of 2014 signed NCAA Letters of Intent committing to play at Division I schools.

Claudia Dabrowski of Toms River was Valedictorian for the graduating class and Megan Borowski also from Toms River was Salutatorian. Vanessa Konzelmann received the Bishop Ahr Religion Award and Sean Suskevich and Claudia Dabrowski were awarded the Griffin Award. The Rev. Monsignor Donovan Spirit Award was awarded to Dana Carbone and Matthew Migdon. The Spirit of St. Dominic Award in honor of the Sisters of St. Dominic who taught at the school was awarded to Daria Dressler. Two members of the Class of 2014 committed themselves to serving our country. Alexander Paggi of Toms River was recognized for superior academic achievement and leadership potential by the US Coast Guard and accepted an appointment to attend the Coast Guard Academy. Alex was sworn in as a member of the Class of 2018 on June 30, 2014. John Covone III from Jackson enlisted to serve in the US Navy.

Class of 1979Ken Jones graduated from Ocean County College and received his Bachelor of Fine Arts from The College of New Jersey and a Visual Communications Certification at Gibbs. Ken likes to work with graphite pencil, color pencil and pen & ink. He specializes in drawing people with a concentration on sports illustration. His drawings have graced the covers of various magazines, such as the portrait of Ernie Banks (“Mr. Cub”) that was featured on the cover of Sports Collectors Digest in 2005, the New York Mets 50th Anniversary illustration for the Inside Pitch Magazine cover in April 2012, and the Fenway 100 Illustration for the Boston Red Sox DIEHARD Magazine cover in December 2012. His portraits of various College Football Hall Of Famers have been on display in the College Football Hall of Fame in South Bend, Indiana.

Class of 1980S. Tien Wong is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Tech 200, Inc. of a Herdon, Virginia based provider of advanced technology training, mobile e-learning, and mobile content management software to Fortune 500, education, and government clients. Tien is also Chairman of Lore Systems, Inc, Silver Spring, a Maryland based IT professional services company. In 2001 he received the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award for Greater Washington and the 2003 Ernst & Young Performance Excellence Award.

Class of 1983Joseph A. DeFeo is the new Executive Director of the Ignatian Colleagues Program (ICP). Joe’s involvement with ICP began as coordinator of on-line workshops and as Ignatian reflector on a trip to Nicaragua. He serves at Fairfield University in student formation programs and is an adjunct faculty member of the Religious Studies Department teaching a course on Ignatian Spirituality.

Class of 1990Anysia Marcell Kiel, author of the book Discovering The Medium Within: Techniques & Stories From A Professional Psychic Medium received the recognition and honors as a finalist in the 10th Annual USA Best Book Awards in the category of New Age-NonFiction. Anysia received two awards for her book within the first six months of publication through Liewellyn.

Class of 2003Emily Heerema received her MS in Occupational Therapy from Stockton College and is employed at Bay Shore Community Hospital in Holmdel, NJ. Emily resides in Aberdeen, NJ

Class of 2004Laura Apruzzese was married on December 7, 2013 to Lars Vercelli of Thompson, CT. Laura earned her Master’s Degree in Vocal Performance/Music Theatre and an Advanced Certificate in Vocal Pedagogy from NYU/Steinhardt in May 2013, after having received her BM from the same in 2008. Her husband is a graduate of NYU and Columbia and works for Tommy Hilfiger. They reside in New York City where Laura has her own private voice studio and where she also continues to perform.

Class of 2006Jennifer Calafato graduated from West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine this past spring.

Daniel Goresh received the 2014 United Way of Ocean County Young Altruistic Professional Award. Dan is a full member of the East Dover Volunteer Fire Company and a full time career firefighter and EMT for Princeton University’s Plasma Physics Laboratory in Plainsboro NJ.

Nicole D. Gervato was admitted to practice law in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, the State of New Jersey, and the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey. Nicole presently works for the firm of Weir & Partners, LLP, a Philadelphia Law Firm.

Class of 2007Dana J. Vouglitois after graduating Georgian Court University in 2009 with a B.A. in Communications continued her education at the University of Miami Frost School of Music and received a degree of Juris Doctor and a Master of Music in Music Business & Entertainment Industries.

Marie Ventrone completed her reign as Miss National US 2012. She spent much of her time in the last year as the spokesperson for the Anita Kauffman Foundation advocating for Epilepsy and also with the Elle Foundation for cancer and the NJ chapter for Donate Life. While holding the title, she was teaching musical theater at The Paper Mill Playhouse, The Institute of Music and Front and Center for Performing Arts. In her free time she was able to perform the role of Marcy in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee for which she was nominated as Best Female Actor for the Perry Awards. She is headline production entertainer onboard the luxury cruise line Oceania doing world cruises.

Class of 2008Jordan Berardi, graduated on May, 2014, from Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut with a doctorate in Physical Therapy.

Class of 2009Mark Poinsett senior left-hander for Stevens Institute of Technology was named to the New Jersey Collegiate Baseball Coaches Association Division II-III All-State second team.

Harold Dauncey is working for the Metropolitan Museum of Art as a Network Engineer responsible for maintaining, securing, and updating existing infrastructures and implementing new technologies.

Class of 2010Meagan Brosnan graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point on May 28th with the rank of Second Lieutenant.

Alexi Sinor is a senior at Westminster College in Salt Lake City, Utah and competed at the World University Games held in Trentino, Italy in the half-pipe and boarder-cross. Lexi is studying to become a teacher and held a dual major in elementary and special education. Since her freshman year, Lexi has been a member of dean’s list and a two-time first team All-American and a three-time academic first team All American.

Class of 2011Dylan Larcey graduated Valedictorian in September from Full Sail University. He is working aboard Royal Caribbean’s Explorer of the Seas cruising the Caribbean, Portugal and Spain as a theatre technical staff member.

Meg Hanna a junior at La Salle University studying nursing is completing a clinical assignment at Cooper University. Meg was selected to sing the National Anthem at the La Salle vs. Quinnipiac University Men’s Basketball Game broadcasted on ESPN.

Lauren Mosley a junior at Washington and Lee University was named a winter 2014 General of the Month recipient for Celebrating Student Success (CSS) initiative sponsored by the Division of Student Affairs. Lauren is a double major in global politics and East Asian Languages and Literatures, with an emphasis on Japanese. She is the head student intern in the Office of Diversity and Inclusion and Vice President for the Multicultural Student Association.

Robert “Bobby” McGeehan is scheduled to graduate a semester early with a BBA in Finance from the Mendoza College of the University of Notre Dame. Bobby attributes his success to all those AP courses he took in high school. Bobby will join the work force this January as a Business Data analyst at DraftKings in Boston.

Class of 2012Emily Raleigh received the 2014 United Way of Ocean County Young Altruistic Professional Award. Emily is a junior at Fordham University and CEO of The Smart Girls Group which fosters a unique environment that seeks to unite, inspire, and empower the next generation of influential women. The Smart Girls Group just published its 25th issue and held its first conference in New York City this past summer drawing 300 attendees from 36 states and 6 countries. The Smart Girl Group presently has members from 46 countries. Emily and The Smart Girls Group was featured in Forbes Magazine.


The school year was packed full with a number of activities and events our students would like to share with all of you.

Halloween at Donovan saw seniors and staff members dressing in costume for Halloween. The senior class parade of costumes traveled through the grade school and ended with a pizza party in the cafeteria.

Halloween parade featured St. Joseph Grade School teaming up with the Donovan band “The Grifftones”, and service school groups such as Habitat for Humanity to make their presence known in the community. A special thank you goes out to Carl DelPizzo and the DelPizzo family of Carl’s Fencing for the use of the trucks.

Thanksgiving prayer service recognizes and thanks individuals who reflect our mission statement through their faith and service to the community. The 2013 Saint Joseph the Worker Award was presented to Dick and Judy Schadl, long time parishioners and former teachers here at the school who consistently exhibited the qualities of Saint Joseph: Faith in God, care and compassion for others, and commitment to serving those in need.

This year the Saint Joseph the Worker Award was presented to the Sisters of Saint Dominic for their dedication and service to the schools and the parish. The Dominican Sisters of Newburgh, NY were the first teachers to serve at Saint Joseph Grade School in 1932 and then at St. Joseph High School when it opened its doors in 1962. Sister Mary Anthony Schmittauer and Sister Jean Spena represented the Sisters of Saint Dominic.

Almost anything goes 2014 came within a few points of the freshman taking the prize. Each class put forth their best efforts and in the end the seniors had acquired the most points. However, it was the freshmen that really came away with all bragging rights on the day as they defeated the sophomores, juniors and seniors in the toughest contest of the day, the infamous “Tug-of-War”.

Photos with SantaThe holiday season offered a time not only to prepare the annual school Christmas Card, but a time for classes and students to have some fun taking photos with our very own Santa (Mr. Brian DeTuro). The gym at flex was abuzz with the sound of the season as Christmas music overtook the sound of bouncing basketballs, and students lined up to try the various props and signs for their photo shoot.


Seven last words of Jesus was the theme for Holy Week this year. Mrs. Mary Beth DeBlasio, Coordinator of Campus Ministry chose to depict the Seven Last Words of Jesus at the Lenten Prayer Service. The themes of these words-- forgiveness, the feeling of abandonment, thirst, caring for the grieving ones left behind, surrender to God’s will, are part of our spiritual/life journey too. The student body heard reflections from their peers, teachers and clergy.

1st reflection: “Father forgive them, they do not know what they are doing” was given by senior Haley Seccafico.

2nd reflection: “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise” was given by Fr. Gary Koch, Parochial Vicar, at Saint Joseph’s Church, Toms River.

3rd reflection: “Woman, this is your son, Son, this is your mother” was a heartrending solo performance by sophomore, Rebecca Rosenberg

4th reflection: “My God, My God, why have you abandoned me?” was given by Donovan’s Pastoral Minister to Athletics and head football Coach Dan Duddy.

5th reflection: “I thirst” was given by sophomore Katie Milewski.

6th reflection: “It is finished” was given by junior Joanna Stasik

7th reflection: “Into your hands, I commend my spirit” was a song presentation of “How Could You Say No” sung by junior soloist, Arianney Dacumos.

The World Stride – Heritage Performance Festival was held on the first weekend of May in Washington D.C. Eighty members and sixty parents and staff of Donovan choirs and Jazz/Rock Ensemble traveled to our nation’s capital for this very prestigious festival performing at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and at Historic Fords Theatre.

The Girls Show Choir, Mixed Show Choir, Jazz Choir and Classical Choir all received gold awards for their performances. The Jazz/Rock Ensemble took home silver. Donovan received the Sweepstakes Award; the highest honor given at the festival for a Total Program of Band and Choir.

Unsung Student Dinner is held every year in the spring to honor those students who go above and beyond to assist faculty and staff or who show outstanding promise but may not otherwise be recognized. Faculty and staff nominated students each semester. The dinner is held in the cafeteria and the faculty and staff serve the student honorees and their family and guests.


Physics Club In Action This past spring fifteen students of the Physics Club traveled to Media, PA where they launched a weather balloon that reached an altitude of 93,000 ft. producing beautiful views of our planet earth. Teresa Holl, Mackenzie Dalton, Laura Guempel, Jessica Sipili, Austin Koziol, Sergio Caputo, Miya Grimaldi, Faith DeLorenzo, Marianna Singer, RJ Berardi, Michael Li, Kaitlyn Dillon, and Hursch Desai accompanied club moderator Mrs. Helga Paggi for the launch. The balloon spent approximately two hours in the air and landed in a residential neighborhood in Willingsboro, NJ.

In October, the Physics Club along with other students constructed mechanical catapults mostly out of wood with the objective to see which catapult design would send a softball and then pumpkins (less than 2 lbs.) the farthest. Contestants set up their catapults on thegoal line of the football field and under the direction of club moderator Mrs. Helga Paggi treated the student body to a competition display during flex. Sophomore, Drew Tooker won the contest.

A Christmas CarolChristmas was in the air as the Performing Arts department prepared for its fall production of A Christmas Carol. On Saturday, November 23, 2013 from 9:30-11:30 a.m. the Donovan campus was alive with the feeling of Christmas. Children of all ages along with parents and grandparents came to enjoy “A Christmas Magic Morning”. The guests enjoyed a holiday breakfast, photo with Santa, tour of the stage, and visit with the characters. A festive horse carriage ride straight from Currier and Ives completed the day.

On December 5th the Performing Arts Department welcomed students from St. Joseph Grade School, Saint Peter’s, Pt. Pleasant, Saint Veronica’s, Howell, Saint Dominic’s, Brick, & All Saints, Manahawkin to a morning performance of A Christmas Carol with a presentation on The Life and Times of Charles Dickens. After the performance, two schools had lunch with the cast.

On December 6th, 7th, and 8th the performing arts students presented their fall production of A Christmas Carol, bringing to life Charles Dickens famous literary work. The curtain went up on Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. It was a true holiday extravaganza starring David Wintrode as Scrooge, Charley Furey as Bob Cratchit, Will Downing as Jacob Marley and our own Mrs. Kathleen D’Andrea and Mr. Ed Graichen as Mr. & Mrs. Fezzwig. Gabi Hay portrayed the Ghost of Christmas Past, Todd Kwitchoff was the Ghost of Christmas Present and Art Director, Mr. Christopher Hrycenko stood in for the Ghost of Christmas Future. The story of A Christmas Carol was told by narrators, Carly Dove, Maddie Michowski, Courtney O’Connell, Joanne Holler and Kelsey Sobieski.

Les MiserablesLes Miserables was another box office smash for the Performing Arts Department here at Donovan in Gepp Gymnasium with record crowds for each of the performances held on March 20th - 23th.

Les Miserables, set in early 19th-century France, is the story of Jean Valjean, a French peasant, and his quest for redemption after serving nineteen years in jail for having stolen a loaf of bread for his sister’s starving child. Valjean decides to break his parole and start his life anew. Along the way, Valjean and a slew of characters are swept into a revolutionary period in France, where a group of young idealists make their last stand at a street barricade.

Todd Kwitchoff played Jean Valjean, Will Downing played Jarvet, Kelsey Sobieski was Fantine, Kathryn Milewski played Eponine, Carly Dove played Cosette and there was a surprise performance by our pastor Fr. Scott Shaffer as the Bishop.

With canons at the ready, the cast and crew of Les Miserables put on a performance worthy of Broadway. The student actors held the audience captivated to the very end and the barricade scene blew people away.

SPRING MUSICAL


Service Routed in the Dominican tradition,our students live their faith by respecting and serving others in our community and beyond.

Typhoon Haiyan CollectionDonovan students held a special collection to raise money for the Filipino communities devastated by Typhoon Haiyan. The Students collected over $3700.00 to present to the Filipino Community here in Toms River to be forwarded to relief aid for those waiting for help in the Philippines. Junior Kathleen Gallardo first presented the idea to the administration who readily approved the request for the special collection. On December 4, 2013 Dr. Gere presented a check for $3700.00 to Dr. Suatengco and Dr. Gallardo and members of the Filipino community.

Catholic Athletes for ChristThe Catholic Athletes for Christ from Donovan joined a contingent of NFL players from the Denver Broncos for The Knights of Columbus “Coats for Kids” program at Sacred Heart Elementary School in Jersey City. Catholic Athletes for Christ (CAC) is a program directing, encouraging and guiding student athletes, better known as “Cathletes”, in the practice of their faith and sharing the Gospel in and through sports. Catholic Athletes for Christ was formed in response to Pope John Paul II’s call to evangelize the world of sports. Chapters of Catholic Athletes for Christ exist in each of the eight high schools throughout the Diocese of Trenton.

Denver Broncos Defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio and his wife Linda have been influential in supporting the Knights of Columbus “Coats for Kids” project via the Del Rio Foundation. Linda Del Rio serves on the Board of Directors of the Catholic Athletes for Christ. The Del Rio Foundation sponsored a new CAC Chapter at Sacred Heart School kicking off an elementary school pilot program as a national model.

Riding for Heroin Awareness107.1 FM’s popular Porkroll & Eggs morning show, dedicated a week in May to raise attention to New Jersey’s heroin epidemic with stationary bike stations set up throughout Monmouth and Ocean County. Several Donovan student athletes traveled to the Ocean County Mall with Trainer Bob to ride for heroin awareness.

The Jules L. Plangere, Jr. Family Foundation donated $1 for every mile ridden on each bike at all locations, up to $25,000, to local charities that fully fund recovery programs.


CHOPCoach Mark Deppen and the Powerlifting Team play Santa to the patients at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia each year .The Powerlifting team raffles a three foot Chocolate Santa to raise the funds to purchase the toys for the children. Coach Deppen takes great care to find out from staff members at the hospital what the children want from Santa and then he puts together a theme wish list. The team travels to Philadelphia to spend the day with the children and hand out the gifts.

Habitat for HumanityMore than 13,000 volunteers were expected to partner with 300 Habitat for Humanity affiliates across the country to help build affordable housing during National Women Build Week, May 3-11. Habitat’s National Women Build program recruits, educates and inspires women to build and advocate for simple, decent and affordable homes in their communities. Donovan teamed up with employees from Lowe’s, Surf Taco and Merrill Lynch to construct three houses in the area. With a contribution of $1.75 million to National Women Build Week, Lowe’s will provide a $5,000 gift card to more than 300 participating affiliates.

On the 2nd anniversary of Superstorm Sandy, Donovan students held a Sandy Recovery Celebration at the high school. The Campus Chapter helped to decorate and run the event. Habitat homeowners, volunteers, and supporters attended this event.

Lending A Helping HandThe Valley View Middle School Concert Band and Symphonic Choir from Wachung, NJ performed at Donovan as part of the Performing Arts Consultant (PAC) Day, Six Flags Festival.

The 7th and 8th grade Band and choir from Valley View were to perform for the competition venue at another area school that eventually fell through. The band and choir performed several numbers in front of judges Harold Frazee and Cindy Wald-Harydal, both musical directors at Donovan.


State Student Council Executive BoardJunior Jenna Panek ’15 of Brick, was elected Secretary on the NJASC Executive Board for 2014. Jenna will serve from January 2014 to January 2015.

Jenna initiated the process by indicating her interest to run for a state office to MDHS Student Council moderator, Mrs. Joan

Fraclose. Being selected as the Donovan representative Jenna and Mrs. Fraclose attended a slating meeting at Bridgewater Raritan HS in mid December where Jenna was interviewed by the 2013 Executive Board and slated to run for the office of Secretary. Jenna’s campaign slogan was: “Don’t panic, Vote Jenna Panek for Secretary”.

On Wednesday, January 9th Jenna and her campaign team had one hour in which to campaign among the other high schools gathered at the student center of The College of New Jersey (TCNJ). Jenna presented her two-minute speech to the presidents of all the student councils who then cast ballots for the persons they selected for the executive board.

Jenna is only the third student from Monsignor Donovan to hold a position on the state executive board. Paul D’Elia Class of ’99 was President of the NJASC Executive Board and Tyler Krenek Class of ’10 was Executive Member in charge of the State Charity.

Rebecca Drake ’15 signed a letter of intent to play Softball for Quinnipiac University and Kelsey McGeehan ’15 signed to play for St. Thomas Aquinas College.

Angus Yeoman ’18 is the first student athlete to receive the new Donovan Catholic Varsity letter, presented by Athletic Director, at the Boys Cross-Country Banquet.

Commended StudentsCasey Furey of Toms River, was named a Commended Student in the 2014 National Merit Scholarship Program. As a Commended Student Casey placed among the top five percent of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2014 competition by taking the 2012 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). Being named a Commended Student, demonstrates Casey’s dedication to academic excellence.

Jessica Bowman was named an Outstanding participant in the 2014 National Achievement Scholarship Program. Outstanding Participants scored in the top 3 percent of more than 160,000 Black Americans who requested consideration.

John Goodyear received Honorable Mention by the 2013-2014 National Hispanic Recognition Program. The NHRP recognized 5,300 Hispanic/Latino students from a pool of over 259,000 who took the 2012 PSAT, NMSQT/.PAA. Students have to be ¼ Hispanic and achieve a year cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher.

Tyler DePaolo ’15 of Jackson and Michael Quigley ’15 of Bayville, two scholastically talented seniors have been recognized as Commended Students in the 2015 National Merit® Scholarship Program. Loving Life Logo ContestSenior Rachel Rogers of Toms River is the winner of the Diocesan “Loving Life Logo Contest” sponsored by the Respect Life Ministry Office of the Diocese of Trenton.

The Loving Life Logo contest was opened to all high school students living within the four counties of the Diocese of Trenton, calling for them to use their unique artistic talents to design a pro-life logo for Loving Life 2014. The logo design could be computer generated or hand drawn. It needed to reflect the students understanding of how to show respect for God’s gift of Life.

From a field of 131 logos representing nine Catholic high schools and eight public schools, five finalists were selected and their names were posted on the Diocesan webpage. The overall winner was determined by on-line voting. Rachel was named the overall winner of the contest, receiving the most votes winning her an Apple Macbook.

Dedication Breeds Tradition and Success…Success has been the middle name of

the Donovan Tennis programs over the years with the first and last name

belonging to Tom Connerton. Coach Connerton would humbly say that it is his athletes who should claim that distinction, but just as a ship is manned by its mates; it is also under the command of a respected captain. Tom Connerton has been the commander of this particular vessel since 1997.

Tom is a member of the St. Joseph High School Class of 1981. After graduating from the Connecticut School of Broadcasting, Tom worked as a disc jockey in Hartford, Connecticut and then for New Jersey Public Broadcasting.

He traveled to Nashville, where he signed a development recording contract with Curb Records and released two albums. Upon returning to New Jersey, he formed an Indy Record Label (Jilcon) and Publishing Company. Tom is a professional photographer. This career

started with sports photography shooting the Andretti Family, and the WTA-Womens’ Tennis Association events.

Following a music career and work in the corporate sector, Tom returned to his alma mater in 1997 as the Boys and Girls Tennis Coach. In 1999 he joined the Monsignor Donovan staff as a full- time employee with coaching being just one of the many hats he wore. He was the school’s photographer, Flex coordinator, and substitute teacher. Even though he has coached several other sports at Donovan over the years, tennis has been his true passion.

Coach Connerton’s career as the head boys and girls tennis coach spans 17 years. He has amassed a total of 604 matches in 30 seasons having coached an overall record of 439 wins to 165 loses. He was named the All-Shore Coach of the year in 1999 and has received the distinction of Ocean County Coach of the Year five times. To his credit Coach Connerton’s teams have achieved seven state final appearances, 13 divisional titles, and two Ocean County Tournament titles. Aside from coaching tennis, Tom also serves as a USTA

Middle States High School representative and is a NJSIAA tennis official. As part of the 1979 State Tennis Team, Tom was inducted into the Griffin Hall of Fame. He is also a member of the Donovan Giving Tree, for sharing his time, talent and treasures with the Donovan Community.

The experience Coach Connerton has brought to the courts and the calm, quiet manner in which he imparts that experience and knowledge to his players, have encouraged his players to strive for greatness. His dedication and skill have resulted in the highly successful Donovan tennis program.

POWERLIFTING POWERHOUSEDanielle Ross was the strongest Griffin pound for pound to ever walk the hallways of Monsignor Donovan High School. In 2014, at the 128 lb. weight class, Danielle ranked in the top 10 in the USA out of teens 14-19 age group and top 50 out of women 20 to 35 age group. Her North America world records include a 290 lb. squat, 205 lb. bench press, and 305 lb. deadlift. She was a three-year captain on a male dominated team and is an excellent student. She holds numerous state and world records in three different Powerlifting Federations. Danielle is a three-time state champion and has received the Best Lifter award ten times. Currently she is attending the University of Texas San Antonio as a Iron Road Runner.

Lawrence Aliseo III on August 11, 2103 along with his dad, Captain Thomas ”Tucker” Colguhoun and crew of their 68 foot boat G -Rod set a new record for total number of Marlin caught in a day. Lawrence himself released 16 of the total 23 Blues caught out of Los Suenos, Costa Rica. The previous record set was 20 in one day.

Senior Rebecca Drake was named 1st Team All-American and 1st Team All-Region over the summer by

the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA).

Thank you to everyone who has contributed to the Quad Beautification Project. The Quad continues to be a work in progress and we are always seeking sponsors to help maintain and support it.
