Background and Experience

As a public higher education institution, the UGR is committed not only to quality and
excellence in education, learning and research but also to activities targeting the transfer of
scientific, technical and artistic knowledge to society, the betterment of society and a
sustainable environment. The main activities of the University of Granada (UGR) are related
to higher education, learning and research in a very broad sense. Due to its long-standing
tradition, geographical location and high standards, both in teaching and research, the UGR

regards internationalization as one of its strategic aims. The UGR offers a wide range of
courses at undergraduate and postgraduate level. Every year over 4,800 international
graduate and postgraduate students choose the UGR to take full study programmes or via
the approximately 800 network and bilateral exchange agreements in which the UGR is
involved. The UGR is the leading European university in number of Erasmus students
received and sent.
2. What are the activities and experience of your organisation, which are relevant to EU
funded projects?
The UGR takes part in a wide number of international programmes and initiatives co-funded
through different EU scheme. The Vice-Rectorate for Internationalization has a sound structure
composed of a governing body (Vice-Rector assisted by several directors for the different
working areas). The International Relations Office-IRO counts with more than 35 full-time
administrative staff members working on different aspects such as general management,
quality assurance, mobility, networks, projects and agreements, development cooperation,
communication and marketing. Furthermore, the IRO counts with a specific financial unit
composed of 4 staff members who deal exclusively with the funds and budget coming from
diverse sources. With regard to international cooperation projects, the UGR has had a long-
standing involvement in a vast number of academic cooperation schemes financed through
different EU programmes such as the FP7 and H2020, Interreg, LLP, Alfa III, Erasmus Mundus,
Erasmus +… During 2016 the UGR has participated in more than 70 EU funded academic
projects being the coordinator of more than 15 of them.

General support and assistance to administrative tasks related to the participation and
management of EU funded projects with an special focus on mobility projects (Erasmus Mundus
and Erasmus+): e-mail correspondence, preparation of formal documentation (letters of
endorsement, cover letters), organization of international meeting (logistics), shadowing of
senior project officers.
