“Attend upon the ordinances of God”- John Wesley

Dear Friend,

When John Wesley started the Methodist Church, he had 3 rules:

1. Do No Harm.

2. Do Good.

3. Attend Upon the Ordinances of God.

“Attend upon the ordinances of God” was Wesley’s way of saying do those things

that draw you closer to God, including Bible study and prayer.

This guide is designed to help you in both Bible study and prayer. Here are some

suggestions to help you.

Bible Study

In this guide there are typically two scriptures to read (column 1 & 2) each day.

The 3rd column is extra reading if you would like to read more. If you read all

the scripture in the first two columns for the year, you will read all of the New

Testament and Proverbs twice, and Psalms once. If you add the scriptures in the

3rd column, you will add the Pentateuch (Genesis—Deuteronomy) and Isaiah.

Prayer

On the facing page of this guide are suggestions for daily intercession on behalf of

the Church. I encourage you to make these prayers a daily part of your devotions

to God.

May God’s blessings be upon you as you draw near to God in study and prayer.

Daily Prayer Intercessions

Sunday - Pray for FUMC Canyon and our mission, our ministries, and our leaders. Monday - Pray for pastor Rick and his family. Tuesday - Pray for our youth and youth ministries including Charlie Keys our Youth Minister. Wednesday - Pray for our children and children’s ministries including Kim Hopson our Children’s Director and Brenda Shepherd our IHH Director. Thursday - Pray for our discipleship and spiritual formation ministries including Roman Asbill our Director of Discipleship and Angela Asbill who directs our Pastoral Care. Friday - Pray for our administrative ministries including our custodians, Bill Rogers our Administrator, Christi Ybarra our Finance Manager and Charlotte Wilson our kitchen coordinator.
