“ROCKIN’ & ROLLIN’ AT ROCHE” THE 60’S REVISITED!!

From your entire bridge HAPPY NEW YEAR to all Tollyclub members!! For all us boaters, its been a busy time. The boat show was great but a real challenge for the vendors and participants as they made major adjustments to make room for the Seattle Seahawks! But then what a great problem to have to see our Seahawks doing so well. Hopefully by time you receive our February newsletter, they’ll be NFL Champs! Either way it was an awesome year! Message From Your Vice Commodore Kirk Gronvold

With the boat show behind us it feels like boating season is right around the corner! Trying to get Donna and the kids excited about getting down to the boat and getting the necessary work done before we go out isn’t easy though! The bridge has been working on planning the clubs upcoming events and is very excited about what is transpiring! We are trying to create new ideas, combined with traditional gatherings so we can keep it fresh and exciting for all. First, we have Gig Harbor, at Arabella’s Marina the end of March. This has been a very popular mini, and we are looking forward to hosting it. We plan on bringing some fun activities to add to the tradition that was started 8 years ago. Now that the Tollys are warmed up from the Gig Harbor cruise let’s head north to Port Ludlow! We all had so much fun last year that we should be able to easily double the fun this year. Since Tolly wasn’t able to make the January party we will take the party to him! We are so excited about being invited to return to Zero Dock and be a part of Opening Day again this year. You won’t want to miss this opportunity to be a part of something so BIG! Try and make this one of your boating trips by coming down early and experiencing Zero Dock and the Seattle Yacht Club. The planning of the BIG RENDEZVOUS at Roche Harbor is underway. We have a lot of new twists and turns with this event. This is an event that I think we are going to all have a lot of fun with. Norm has some great ideas and even some surprises that we don’t know about! You won’t want to miss this! I hope you are all marking your calendars, getting your reservations made and most important get your boat ready to Rock~ N ~Roll! We’re working with vendors, advertisers, and of course procuring prizes for the club. I would like to take a moment and remind everyone how important it is to let all of these people know how much we appreciate the ir support of our club. Without these valuable club sponsors we wouldn’t be able to do as much. So next time you need work done on your boat be sure and check your roster to see if you can use one of our sponsors. If our sponsors know they are receiv-ing a return on their investment they will be more likely to re-new their ad. The mass e-mail was a great success! We were able to update the entire club via e-mail of a last minute change. Norm had bet me we would probably receive more than 50 “bounce backs” due to wrong e-mail addresses. Well, lunch is on Norm! Out of 300 e-mails sent only 33 returned as “undeliverable!” In this newsletter our Treasurer Steve Monrad gives us a breakdown of club costs, where your dollars go. As you will see a large portion goes to the Newsletter. While the newsletter only comes out three times, it is very costly. With this I want to investigate how willing our members would be to getting the newsletter on line. For those who wished not to receive it electronically we would accommodate with the traditional mailing. We will try and get the feel for this through various club activities and of course bring it up at the general meeting at Roche. So for now it’s just a thought. VOLUNTEERS WANTED: Need volunteers who enjoy boating, especially in their Tollycraft! This person should like

working in a team situation, planning, organizing, and creating new traditions, being a part of the largest Tollycraft boating club in the nation! All interested please notify your Vice Commodore.

It’s hard to believe that February is already here. Just a few short months until we are all back out on the water in our Tolly’s doing what we love, cruising, going new places and meeting with our Tollycraft Club members. This year is go-ing to be special with all the events coming up, Gig Harbor, Port Ludlow, Opening Day, Roche Harbor and La Conner, WOW, what a good time coming.

This year I have been handed the Web Site to take care of as some of my duties as Rear-Commodore and I look forward to maintaining this very useful source of information that has become a mainstay for all of us Tolly owners and club members. Have you looked at the site, (and I find it hard to believe that you haven’t), go to www.tollyclub.com and just take a look. You will find just about anything and everything there is to do with Tollycraft including, History, Upcom-ing Events, Gallery of Pictures from numerous events, an excellent Links site, information on your Bridge Officers and one of the things I enjoy the most, Forums. On the Forums link you will find folks looking for info and others trying to help out with info as well as places to cruise, etc. It is just a great source of Tolly Stuff and everyone is encouraged to use it. Please le t me know if there are things you would like to see changed or added to your Web Site, and please, please, take a look.

Also, our Club is ever changing and we on The Bridge are open and receptive to suggestions. Anytime you have an idea or feedback for the betterment of The Tollycraft Club, please let us know.

The Mini’s are coming and the 19th Annual Tollycraft Rendezvous,’ “Rollin’ & Rockin’ at Roche” will be un-forgettable. There will be more info coming on all of these events but just prepare yourselves for F.U.N.

One last thing, I encourage everyone to include your kids or grandkids, etc. in the Club functions. They always have a good time and what a great thing to hand down to our young ones, “family fun in boating.”

HAPPY TOLLYING! Larry Price

Tollyclub Reaches Out To Our Wounded Service Personnel “Over There”

Our club recently became aware of a need at two of the hospitals “over there” tending to our wounded. When the wounded come to the hospital, they are wearing only what they had on when wounded. Until they are well enough to fly home or return to their units, their choice of clothing is wearing what they had the day they arrived at the hos-pital or those oh so fashionable and drafty hospital gowns. The hospital staff are relying on other base personnel there to donate what ever they could ie; T-shirts, lightweight sweat pants etc. But the wounded continue to arrive and they were running out of clothes to donate.

Our club had several T-shirts left over from previous rendezvous’ and were able to send them to the hospital staff along with over 150 more pieces of other donated clothing. With the help of some of our members who have sons and daughters there, we were able to send the clothing directly to two hospitals on a transport aircraft from McCord AFB. One of the hospitals is the same hospital that recently treated the ABC co-news anchor and his cameraman that you may have read about. We also included a “Thank You” card from the club thanking them for all they are doing there, telling them how proud we are of them and wishing them a fast recovery and safe return home!!

We knew you all would appreciate knowing this effort from Your Club!!!

TOLLYCLUB IS IN THE OPENING DAY PARADE Here’s a chance for you and your Tolly to be in the LARGEST Boat Parade in the Country!!!!

In true Tollyclub style, last year we made quite an impression at Seattle Yacht Club’s (SYC) parade! We received FIRST PLACE in the SPIRIT CLASS. Our club and its members not to mention our Tollys are still the “talk of ZERO DOCK” and with that SYC has invited us back again this year! With this invitation we also have moorage on Zero Dock. SYC’s theme this year is Caribbean Carnival! This is definitely an event of its own. Last year the Tollys started really Roll’n in Wednesday and the rest were there by Friday As parade participants we get to be a part of all of the parties, festivities, live music, dancing and much more. The activities are not only hosted by SYC but by many of the other clubs on ZERO DOCK as well. You won’t want to miss this. Check out the schedule of SYC sponsored events at their website by going to www.seattleyachtclub.net and click Opening Day. You can really get a feel for how BIG this event is! We will also be updating our website to keep you up to date on Tollyclub events, www.tollyclub.com. To enter the parade this year only takes two requirements. 1. You must own a Tolly. 2. 8th Annual Mini Rendezvous Arabella’s Landing Marina in Gig Harbor

Gig Harbor March 31st thru April 2nd 2006!

As I sit here in my cold office on this rainy winter day and try to write an article about getting ready for a spring week-end of boating, my first thought is “Are you nuts!”

But then I remember all the fun we always have with other Tolly owners and the comradery that encompasses the dock when we get together. The stories, the parties and best of all the FUN! So now I’m ready, are you??? This will be our first time hosting a mini; we look forward to meeting more members and getting to know everyone a bit more!

To start the weekend off with a bang, there will be a prize awarded for “farthest distance traveled.” We will also be hav-ing a little auction Friday night! One of the items will be a mounted copy of one of Tolly Tollefson’s original sketches! During the weekend we will be on the move with a “Poker Run” guaranteed to be a lot of fun. Best part about it, you don’t have to know how to play poker!!! Potlucks, Pizza, Dinghy Parades, there won’t be a dull moment! If you’ve never been to a mini, this is the one you want to attend!

We have 20 slips available for us this year and are looking to fill each slip with a beautiful Tolly. This is first come, first serve so don’t delay.

Reservations need to be made directly with Arabella’s Landing by March 23rd. Please call Bobbi Scott at 253-851-1793. After making your reservation please send us an e-mail and let us know you’ll be joining us.

We will have some “favorite mini” festivities to keep you on your toes throughout the weekend, and of course great meals to share. We will send you a weekend itinerary after you register so you can start planning and packing! Once again, Kirk and I are looking forward to meeting lots of new faces and getting to know everyone even better!

3rd ANNUAL MID SOUND MINI CRUISE TO PORT LUDLOW MARINA APRIL 21-23, 2006

This is a great opportunity to not only get out on the water for some cruising but for club members to be able to spend time with the man himself Tolly, as we “bring the mini cruise” to Tolly each year at Port Ludlow. The marina provides a covered patio area in case of weather issues. Yet last year the weather was great. We start the fun on Friday getting re-acquainted with Tolly friends the potluck dinner on the dock weather permitting, or under the tent at the patio area. Saturday is time to visit other Tolly boats, see what the new Tolly clothing is for this year and so-cializing before heading up to the restaurant for lunch with Tolly. Tolly sits in a big horseshoe booth so each member can come and visit with Tolly for short time during lunch. Tolly really enjoys the opportunity to visit with his “Tolly family” and see all of his Tollycraft Boats at the Marina. Tolly then returns to his home for his afternoon nap. Last year he felt so good, that he surprised with a second visit by joining us for our Saturday dinner. After lunch we have a gently “all dinghies” cruise to the Port Ludlow inner harbor. There we all raft the dinghies to-gether, shut down the outboards and have a “cocktail hour” socializing with everyone while passing around Norm’s fa-mous bucket of Margarita’s. Then it’s a slow cruise back to the marina for our Saturday night dinner. Sunday, its home baked cinnamon rolls and mimosa’s before we say our good byes and cruise back to our homeports. Each year this event has grown in size. So don’t miss out on this rare opportunity to spend time with Tolly and get an early spring shake down cruise in before summer. PLEASE let us know your coming by emailing either of us...

TOLLY GETS A DOUBLE.. 95TH BIRTHDAY PARTY

On Saturday January 21, the club continued its annual celebration of Tolly’s birthday. We normally celebrate his birth-day on the last Saturday of the boat show. But as most of you know due to the boat show dates being changed for the Seahawks Playoffs, his birthday this year was a week after the boat show. Additionally, shortly before his birthday, Tolly let us know that on his doctor’s advise, that he wouldn’t be able to attend this year. HOWEVER…. The party didn’t end there. Kirk Gronvold came up with the idea to remind everyone about the party by sending an email to all our members. We were very pleased to see that we had almost a 90% success rate of getting the email to our members. Way to Go Kirk!! We also decided since Tolly couldn’t come to us, we would take the party to Tolly. On Saturday morning our Commodore Norm and past Commodore Lee Worthy and his wife Sue drove to Port Ludlow with a cake and balloons to bring the party to Tolly. While there Tolly was also surprised by a visit from the wife of one of his long time employees at the factory, who came all the way from Hawaii to wish him a Happy Birthday! Denise, his friend for more than 35 years, brought him an “Island Lei of Kings”, that he wore throughout his party. We then hurried back to Seattle to show all the party attendee’s the pictures that day at Tolly’s house. We also called Tolly that night on a speaker cell phone and he was able to personally talk to all who were there and then the whole gang sang Happy Birthday to him. The party also included a visit from the Seattle Yacht Club Admiralty of Opening Day who were in full costume there to “officially” invite our club to again participate in this years Opening Day Parade. The evening included Hors d'oeuvres, wine and of course a big birthday cake. Tolly also asked us to thank all of “his Tolly family” for bringing the party to him and is looking forward to seeing everyone in April when we visit the Port Ludlow marina for our Mid Sound Mini.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TOLLY!

Welcome to Some of our Newest Members!!!

What makes a group like our Tollycraft Boating Club so great is it’s members! Our club’s membership extends far be-yond the Puget Sound, with members in 19 States and three Canadian Provinces. Even though some of our members aren’t able to come to all of our local events, we remain connected through the club’s website, www.tollyclub.com. Gerald and Luann Albertson of Bothell, WA “Di’s Delite”; Mike and Karen Anderson of Bellevue, WA “Seacoaster”; Ronald and Sharon Bass, Fox Island, WA “Salty Dawg”; Robert and Paulette Bischoff of Normandy Park, WA “Itasca”; Nick de Matties of Phoenix, AZ “AquaCosmos”; Austin and Jerilyn Linden of Cuyahoga Falls, OH “Dragonfly III”; Bill and Donna Malkason of Bellingham, WA “Pelican III”; Richard and Teri Manning of Jackson Hole, WY “Twin Time”; Paul Martin of Portland, OR “Mystic”; Ronald Rickett of Seattle, WA “Avocation”; Clark and Lois Ruggles of Port Ludlow, WA “Sally Jean”; Ron and Angela Stallings of Amelia Island, FL “Jolly Tolly”; and Janice and H. Hidmore Walton of Saluda, VA “Enchantress”. A huge thank you goes out to all of our existing members who have renewed their memberships for 2006. During the month of January nearly one half of our members have renewed, with a majority arriving within the first ten days! For members who have not yet submitted their renewal, when doing so please be sure to include your most up to date con-tact information, including e-mail address.

Where Does Your Membership Dollar Go?

Your Bridge constantly strives to make your membership in the Tollycraft Boating Club a great value. In this edition of the newsletter, I would like to take the opportunity to share just a brief view of how your membership fees are used throughout the year.

Over one-half of each member’s dues is needed to provide the club newsletter, roster, website, and three annual Mini Cruises. Nearly $10 of your membership is needed for printing and postage expenses for the newsletter throughout the year. The newsletter you’re currently reading costs nearly $1,000 to Print and Mail. Approximately $3 of each mem-ber’s dues is needed for the creation and maintenance of our club website, www.tollyclub.com, the most visited website dedicated to Tollycraft Boats.

The Annual Rendezvous, the club’s main event of the year, is also the most expensive. The $50 registration fee paid by each attendee covers about 60% of the actual cost per person. Thanks to the generous support of sponsors, venders and members supporting raffles and clothing sales we are able keep out of pocket expenses down, while still providing a great event.

Keep your eyes open for some new fundraising activities in the near future. Your bridge is working on innovative ways to raise funds while bringing something new and exciting to our members.

A big thank you goes out to our renewing members. The stack of renewals received in the first few days of January show that our members agree that membership in the Tollycraft Boating Club is a great value for their boating buck!

New Member “Spot Lights”

John and Stephanie Cole: Westlake, Ohio 1982 34’ Convertible

We bought the "STEVIE ANNE" appropriately named after my beautiful wife "Stephanie” in ‘82. She came into Holiday Harbor on the Huron River on the Central Basin of the Great Lake, Lake Erie. She arrived with a lower station that I'll always love with a hi/lo helm and table. By the way you know how heavy those tables are, well we rolled once placing the table top down on top of the couch, but she came back right up. That's when I was sure she was my forever boat and ordered two spare shafts and props. After 24 yrs. and 2400 hours around our assorted islands, reefs, bays in western Lake Erie and up to the North Channel/Georgian Bay she certainly deserved the custom repower job that included a balance job, blue printing and dyno tests on both motors. I'll get another 24 yrs. out of her if my back holds up.

On Lake Erie we have what is arguably the best Smallmouth Bass and WALLEYE fishing found on earth around our gla-cially cut islands. Navigation today is as difficult as when we beat the British fleet in the WAR of 1812 in the Bass Island area. Our South Bass Island is the location of the world’s 1st. (first) ship to shore radio transmission and the second tallest gothic column celebrating the Peace in Memorial to and between the U.S.A., England and Canada. Just ten miles as the crow flies south east of the islands is CEDAR POINT home to the highest, biggest, fastest, tallest and most roller coasters for the time they where built. This puts us in SANDUSKY BAY the largest natural shipping harbor on the Great Lakes and my hometown, containing Johnson Island, which has a Confederate Prison historical site for visitors.

That's owning and loving a "TOLLY" on Lake Erie. !!! Robert & Rachel Morgan: Ottawa, Ontario, Canada 1987 44’ CPMY

Well where shall I begin… I guess back in 1990 when I saw my first Tolly at the Miami Boat show. Sixteen years latter and 2 Boats I finally purchased my first and Last Tolly the I DOCKER’R…of course one should never say last when it comes to Boats.

Rachel and I have been Boating in Eastern Ontario the last few years and have traveled through the Historic Rideau Canal system, Lake Ontario and the 1000 Islands, Historic Trent-Svern Canal to Georgian Bay the Land of 30,000 islands, St. Lawrence River to Quebec City and over to New York and the Finger Lakes. There is a lot of Fresh water Boating and lots to explore.

This summer we will get to know each other real well as a are planning a trip down the St Lawrence to another breathtaking area The Saquenay River. The river flows through a fjord with steep sides 300m high, waters 275 meters deep and width about 0.6 to 2 miles. The river itself is 93 miles long and navigatable for 60 miles. We even can even whale watch here… lots of excitement.

Our 2 kids are grown up but we have 2 new kids aboard Apache and Shadow, our 2 Portuguese water dogs. They took to our new Boat as though I had bought it for them, which I did. Our only concern is they are not Litter trained so when we get to the Saquenay River and have to climb the 300 meter cliffs a few times to find some grass, I may invest in some “Doggy De-pends”

Unfortunately here in the North the Snow and Ice will keep the Boat’s under raps until mid April but the planning for the summer has begun and I feel good.

Next stop is the Miami Boat Show… maybe I will find the Doggy Turf I have seen advertised

Glad you are all in the same “Boat” as us no pun intended. I am only jealous of the time those on the West Coast can spend on their Boats.
