DEADLINE for November newsletter is October 23rd.
Core purpose statement:
“Gratefully sharing God’s love through faith and service”
The October newsletter is in honor of our
daughter Wendi Thomas’ birthday
by Frank and Carole Nacci.
My dearest sisters and brothers in Christ,
At Holy Trinity we strive to be Christ-Centered: partnering, serving, growing, supporting, praising, and spiritual.
With such a bold statement for a vision, we need to look to see how we can be more Christ-Centered in our everyday action. To live into the body of Christ means that we are free to live a responsive life because Christ has made us a new person- free from doubt and fear. Part of our response can be (I’m not limiting here or suggesting we must do these things): serving along side of others as they try to traverse this difficult world, open our hearts and arms to those who are sick, suffering, or facing death, give ourselves for the benefit of others, try to live as the example which Jesus showed us.
October has traditionally been the month in which we launch the Intention 2 Give drive for the upcoming fiscal year. This year we will be celebrating all that we have done thus far and what lies ahead for next year. Your support to our church family is vitally important to Holy Trinity’s overall health. The time you give is invaluable to all the people with whom we do ministry. The talents you share continue to bring strength to all the ministries we offer. The talents you bring allow our doors to remain open and allow meaningful ministry to pour out from those doors.
I’m inviting everyone to prayerfully consider how God is calling to you to share your time, talents, and treasures. I’m inviting everyone to prayerfully consider how your giving to the church is a gift grounded in God’s abundant blessings. I’m inviting everyone to come to church on November 10th to share with your church family the offering you will use to support Holy Trinity’s 2020 budget and then celebrate with us the gifts received for 2019 and the promised support of 2020. That’s right, on November 10th after each service, we will have a celebration. 8:00 attendees will have breakfast goodies and coffee, 9:00 attendees will share cake and punch, the 10:30 attendees will join for a luncheon of lasagna (beef and veggie) or penne vodka, salad, bread, and drinks. Anyone may attend any of the celebrations on that day. I encourage you to attend several of them.
Your partner in Christ,
Pr. Brian

ELECTRONIC GIVING!! “SIMPLY GIVING”
Your annual pledge helps us forecast the level of financial support our congregation will receive in the year ahead. It is through the pledges and contributions that we are able to carry on our work here at Holy Trinity.
We offer Electronic Giving as a way to automate your offerings. It is convenient for you and provides much-needed consistency for the church. Collection basket offerings can fluctuate significantly from week to week but when contributions are automated, the church receives funds on a steady, uninterrupted basis. To learn more, call the church
610-264-2641.
At any time, you can give donations to the “Pastor’s Discretionary Fund”. This fund is used to give temporary financial assistance to people of our congregation and community when a sudden need arises. You may send contributions to the church or place them in the offering plate on Sunday mornings. Please mark your checks or envelopes “Pastor’s Discretionary Fund”.

We are so happy that you joined us!!
REMINDER: The youth are no longer collecting pill bottles for Through These Hands. They advised Nancy Miller, who volunteers there, that they can no longer take them. Just like a teenager's room at home, our HT youth room is sometimes cluttered and in disarray...But we invite you to take a walk down the steps to check out our First & Third digs! Another bean bag chair was there for newcomer Brielle Lower - welcome! All youth in grades 7-12 are encouraged to join us on the 1st & 3rd Sunday evenings each month for a light supper, devotions/learning, sharing highs and lows, and sometime constructive/sometime just plain silly times together! First & Third dates for the remainder of 2019:
October 6 & 20, November 3 & 17, December 1 & 15 from 5-7pm
During our most recent time together, we thought about Luke 14:25, where Jesus told his listeners that they must hate their mother and father...and give away all their possessions to be His disciple. I challenged them to think about the things in their lives that they need to hate - that is, what possessions or people possess them? Upcoming opportunities that the youth decided to participate in that will help them experience the cost of discipleship, sometimes in the form of costing us material possessions, sometimes costing us time:
Partner with the Morning Glories' project by filling 3 Holiday Hope Chest Boxes for the Volunteer Center of the Lehigh Valley. At our next 1st & 3rd, we'll divide up our lists to fill boxes for 2 teenage girls and a teenage boy. ITEMS FOR THE BOXES MUST BE BROUGHT IN TO OUR OCTOBER 20TH 1ST & 3RD.
Help at the October 31st Trick-or-Treat refreshments in Holy Trinity's parking lot from 6-8 (Note: Trick-or-Treat in Salisbury Twp., Whitehall, and Coopersburg is 10/25). Costumes welcome but not required!
Support Operation Holiday Cheer by attending the Bingo on Saturday, November 2 from 3-6pm at the Jednota, 1223 Fifth Street, Catasauqua. Cost of the tickets is pending; youth decided they would each be responsible for their own ticket cost. This is a project of 12-year-old Brandon Larkin, a Catty youth who wants to fill a goodie box for his father and every member of the 77th Brigade of the U.S. Army, deployed overseas. Blondies has partnered with Brandon to make this vision a reality.
Serve if needed at the 5 Loaves & 2 Fish Pancake Breakfast and Bake Sale on Saturday, November 23 (arrive at 7:30am, finish around noon).
Participate in Worldwide Children's Remembrance Day on December 8 by incorporating a candle lighting into our 1st & 3rd that evening, or by joining in with our HT family and donating candles if a congregational event is planned. Since 1997, a Worldwide Candle Lighting, believed to be the largest mass candle lighting on the globe, has created a 24-hour wave of light as it moves from time zone to time zone at 7 p.m. local time. This observance was initiated by The Compassionate Friends, an international organization that provides support to families after a child dies, as a gift for families to remember the children who have died too soon, but will never be forgotten. Serve at the 5 Loaves & 2 Fish Prime Rib Dinner on Saturday, December 14 (arrive at 4, finish around 7:30pm). PARENTS & YOUTH: Please note these dates on your calendars, and RSVP ASAP for each activity.
In this CHURCH we strive to be…
Christ-Centered, Spiritual, Praising, Growing,
Serving, Partnering, Supporting
Pastor’s past month ministries:
Discretionary Funds- Help was given for: electric bill, rent, couches, diapers and formula. A few gift
cards went out of account
Partnering-
We are serving breakfast at the YMCA in Catasauqua to help with their cancer awareness run.
If you can help on October 12th from 9:30-10:30, let Pr. Brian know.
We will be at Fest O’ Fall on October 5th in front of the George Taylor House. If you can give
an hour to work the table between noon and 5pm, let Pr Brian know.
Coffee with a Cop- next date October 17th, 5-7pm at Blockers Coffee House.
Praising- 3 services available on Sunday mornings 8, 9, 10:30. 8:00 spoken. 9:00 Relaxed Family
service. 10:30 traditional European service. Hopefully coffee and snack will be available each week
between the services.
Growing-
Several more families worshipping with us on weekly basis, Met with Bishop Zeiser to talk
new church model focused on the un-churches. Holy Trinity has the Bishop’s blessing to
start experimenting with this idea. Rick Minnich, Chris Williams, and Diane Jones have
attended ecumenical minister training to begin this new worship idea.
Spiritual- sat with spiritual advisor. Met with a small group to discuss a new worshipful experience,
goal is to begin in November of this year. Details will follow.
Supporting-
spent several hours counseling non-members, spent time talking with members on life
circumstances. Hosted last Saturday of month free community lunch. This will happen at
Holy Trinity every month on last Saturday from 11:00-12:30. Next community lunch on
October 26th at our church. Girl Scouts may join in our community that day and bring
games with them.
Christ-Centered- is why I do all these things. Without Christ, I am nothing.
New opportunity! “Collection of used cell phones”
The Turning Point of the Lehigh Valley is dedicated to helping women who need to escape abusive
situations. The used cell phones are recycled, providing funds for Turning Point. There will be a box
in the back of the church for your donations. Thank you!!!
Scrip News Time for an end zone dance, because we've scored another SCRIP program touchdown! During Fellowship and Refreshments after 10:30 worship on October 13th, we'll be drawing a winner of a $10 SCRIP gift card. What were we celebrating? Nothing less than reaching $1000 in profits in 2019!!! How do you enter the drawing? Order and/or purchase gift cards from stock, use them for your everyday shopping or gift giving, put your name on your zero balance cards and drop them in one of the tow designated boxes, located in the Alice Storch Room (fellowship hall) and the back of the sanctuary. Of course, our biggest winner is the Christian Education program and related expenses that would normally be paid out of the general budget. In case you're a newcomer to the game, here are the rules we're playing by:
The second Sunday of each month is the deadline for our regular monthly order. We pay $8.50 shipping for each order, so we try to combine all orders into one submission each month, to maximize our profits. If you have a special need, we will try to combine your request with other pending orders to get what you need in between our regular orders.
Cards are delivered to you at church the 3rd Sunday of the month. We receive them 3 days after we place the order. We can make arrangements with you to get your cards to you during the week if needed. Any profits not needed for current bills (or for the annual Paul Frantz Scholarship to graduating seniors) are rolled into an inventory of the most popular cards, available for immediate purchase. These are available from Joe or Diane any Sunday after 10:30 worship, or anytime during the week by text or phone request (Diane 610-739-6006). Don't draw a penalty flag for delay of game by not using SCRIP gift cards! Plan now for Christmas gift-giving, in addition to your current spending needs (groceries, prescriptions, gas coffee, restaurants and fast food). Remaining order deadlines in 2019 are October 13, November 10th and December 8th.
2019 Monthly Fellowship and Refreshments
The Christian Ed families made cookies, fruit kabobs, lemon squares and lemon bread;
pretzels, popcorn, cheese and ring bologna for an after service fellowship on September 8th.
Join us after the 10:30 service on October 13th for the next luncheon!
Future 2nd Sunday of the month Fellowship and Refreshments
October 13th Wendy Thomas and Carol Nacci
November 10th Sue and John Marakovits, Pat and Mark Fried
December 8th Janis and Jerry Charvala, RuthAnn Reinsmith
NEIGHBOR SUPPORTING NEIGHBOR
In a community hungering for both food and relationship, thank you to all who support our Catasauqua neighbors by bringing nonperishable food and grocery bags for the Catty food bank, and to those who leave money in the "Meant to but forgot" container. Why not try out one of the "Just One Thing" bags located on the food table in the hallway outside the fellowship hall, and on or near the big green wooden box in the entryway? Each time you go to a store that offers nonperishable foods, purchase Just One Thing to put in the little shopping bag. When it's full, bring it back in and take a new bag to keep up the habit! Other ways you can support our neighbors:
JUST AROUND THE CORNER - Saturday, October 5, noon to 5: Holy Trinity will again participate in Catty's Fest O' Fall (rain date 10/6) at the George Taylor House. See Pastor Brian to volunteer (you don't have to be an idea person - just have willing hands and an hour or more to share). Last year's event was a fun introduction to the Fall spirit!
Serving breakfast at the Catasauqua Y on Saturday, October 12 starting at 9:45am, after the YMCA race for breast cancer. See Pastor Brian if you can help.
Come to Coffee With a Cop each month and be the face of Holy Trinity as we (anonymously) fund a snack for our neighbors and share some time and conversation. Future dates are Thursdays October 17th at Blocker's Coffee House on Front Street (near Blondies); November 21 at Taylor House Brewing Co. (76 Lehigh St. Catasauqua - across from the George Taylor House); and December 19 at Town Hall (Catty Borough building on Front Street). Drop in between 5 and 7pm for a bite to eat and a chance to be in touch with our church family's community and police officers.
Serve or just enjoy some lunch and conversation the last Saturday each month. You might not be a resident of Catty, but as a part of our Holy Trinity family, each of us is a neighbor to the people who do live in Catty. Become a familiar, caring face as we work to get our neighbors out from their houses and into community. Our next ones are September 28th and October 26 from 11-12:30. Trick-or-Treat night refreshment give-away in Holy Trinity's parking lot from 6-8pm on Thursday, October 31st. Costumes are fun but not required, hands to distribute hot dogs and hot chocolate needed. Good time guaranteed!! How God has blessed HT's Neighbor Supporting Neighbor activities recently:
HT hosted 23 guests at the August 31st community lunch. Eleven volunteers from our church family helped serve, then shared a meal with our neighbors. Blessing of the Angels hosted by HT at the Catty Park on September 8 was a meaningful way to honor loved
ones who have passed. Live performance of contemporary Christian songs provided a soft background for angel crafts, one of which was led by our own Sue Marakovits. Participants created a feather angel and
painted angel wings, taking one of each home and donating a second one for distribution to hospice patients
by Melanie Werley and her Threshold Choir, which shares soft music with hospice patients. O'Donnell Funeral Home partnered with us in this opportunity to remember loved ones, and donated $400 toward the
cost of the event
Trinity Morning Glories
We are a daytime women’s group here at Holy Trinity. Our focus is on the spiritual and service to others. Along the way, we share food, work, laugh, chat and pray together! Please join us!
Note: Our meetings will always be the 3rd Monday at 10:00 (exception: Dec. will be the 2nd Monday).
On Monday, September 16, 2019, a delicious Breakfast Buffet was enjoyed by 24 women.
As part of Nancy Miller’s devotions, she read the poem “It’s in the Valleys I Grow”. The women shared personal highs and lows in their lives and Nancy made the observation that sometimes highs blend with lows. Knowing that, we often become stronger while in a “valley” and we are assured that our Lord will see us through rough times. She referenced John Denver’s song “Some days are diamonds…and some days are stones. From the book Breath Prayers for Women’s “Help”, Nancy referenced Psalm 18:6 by saying when we are experiencing lows, all we need to say is “Help!” and we will be heard. We then all sang “Go, My Children, with my Blessing”.
The Truth for Women speakers were Maureen O’Meara and Sally Slifer Ryan. Truth for Women is a faith-based organization that supports women who have experienced the trauma of human trafficking “in our own backyard”. About 50 women have lived in the Truth Home over the past 13 years; a maximum of 5 women can be accommodated at one time. Each women spends about 2 years. During this time, they receive nurturing, counseling, medical care, are taken to church as well as other services. Only about ½ of the women successfully break free of the “grip” of the man responsible. The speakers predicted that sex trafficking will soon surpass the sale of drugs and will become the #1 revenue producer for these men. Nov. 2 – 9 is Sex Trafficking Awareness Week. On Nov. 9, an awareness movie will be shown in our area at various locations. “My Sister’s Closet” an upscale thrift store located at Rt. 512 and Rt. 22 provides about 1/3 of Truth for Women’s operating costs.
The details for “Murder at Mardi Gras” mystery dinner theater were finalized. There are 3 tickets that can be resold. Let Janis (610 440-0073) know if you can use 1, 2 or all 3.
Ongoing Projects: BREM Rebra program – box in hallway for new/used bras (thanks to Nancy Miller/Ruthann Reinsmith); Turning Point: Used Cell Phones box in church (thanks to Linda Wiland); Morning Glories Bulletin Board in Alice Storch Room – watch for updates on artistically decorated board by Vicki Chimics/Sandy Svitana. Judy Connelly and a partner will do the board from Nov. 2019 thru April 2020.
As part of our annual participation in the National Pajama Program, Judy Spaits and Joan Herman will prepare the new pajamas and book collection box for the back of church. All collected items will go to a charitable organization in the Lehigh Valley. The box will be in church Nov. 1 thru Dec. 9.
Our next Bethlehem Homeless Dinner will be Monday, December 2. More in Oct. Perhaps buying cooking supplies at Restaurant Store.
Due to the favorable response next school year, we will again order and mail cards and coins to Trinity’s students. Thanks to Karen Frankenfield for all her effort in beginning this ministry.
Food Supplies collected for Truth for Women: 3 boxes cereal, 11 cans plus 1 case Macaroni & Cheese, can Chef Boyardee, 4 cans ravioli, 3 packs of soup cups, 1 box pastry bars, 13 cups Jell-0 & Pudding, 1 bag canned goods, 7 bags of dried goods (pasta, rice, etc.). Also 4 large bags of clothing and purses were donated to their thrift shop.
Trinity Morning Glories (cont’d)
Distribution of offering: 2 - $25 Walmart gift cards for Cay Galgon Family Life Center, $150 to Truth for Women ($125 in Script cards; $25 cash) Note: Oct.’s offering will go to the Lutheran Disaster Response for Hurricane Dorian’s destruction.
Since Sept. 2008, $43,619.80 has been donated to special causes; this does not include all the non-monetary donations that have been made over the past almost 11 years which probably equal that amount.
