Shine (Grades 6-8) Series: “Love Is”Our current Shine Series is called “Love Is…”. During this Shine series, the middle school youth will see the commandments not as restrictions but as a path to learn how to treat one another and have the proper mindset toward the material objects in their lives. This type of love leads to the freedom that they find when they follow Jesus and love one another properly. Shine is our program for middle school students. At Shine, middle school teens grow through the relevant message of the Gospel. Teens then meet in small groups where they ask questions and discuss the message as it applies to their lives. All middle school youth are invited to attend the Sunday 5pm Mass together and then attend Shine until 7:30 pm. To register for Shine go to StMichaelChurch.net/Shine
Awaken High School Series: “Change” Current Awaken Series: “Change”Jesus wants to change you for the better every time you walk through the doors of the church for Mass. Our Awaken High School Series is about encountering Jesus in the Mass and being changed by Him, about what changes we need to make in how we approach the Mass, and what we do after Mass has concluded. Awaken is our program for high school students. At Awaken, high school students hear a weekly message and then process it in their small groups to help deepen their faith before they go off to college or wherever life takes them. All high school youth are invited to attend the Sunday 5pm Mass and then attend Awaken until 7:30 pm. To register for Awaken go to StMichaelChurch.net/

marriage? As I think back on my own experience of marriage and family, I am amazed that despite the dismal statistics for life-long happy marriages, my nuclear family has not yet experienced the trauma of divorce. I know that I am blessed, but I also know that marriage takes a lot of hard work.
As the director of marriage preparation here at St. Michael, I consistently look for great marriage resources which can back up the beautiful teachings of our Church on marriage, family and my own positive experience of it. Reading “The Choice Wine” by Steve Bollman has been a validation of so much of my lived experience, but also the rich teachings of our Church regarding marriage and family.
So, what makes for a superabundant marriage? I’m not going to ruin the entire read, for you, as you should buy the book and read it with your spouse, but I do want to highlight a few really, simple but important ways to make your marriage what God intends for it:
Go to Mass weekly with your spouse! This fact is one that we teach in marriage preparation classes, because it has such a profound impact on the success of a marriage! Going to Mass with your spouse and family can decrease your chances of divorce by 30%! Prepare Enrich claims an even greater signifi cance IF couples serve together at Church!

Why is this so? Because at Mass, we are bathed in His presence through the WORD of God and through the reception of His precious body and blood! We are given the power to forgive, be patient and to love in the way Christ intends. As one of my former RCIA participants said to me, “I’m not sure what happens when we come to Mass, but when we leave we are better then when we came”. Did you know that based on a recent PEW research statistic, only 39% of Catholics attend Mass on a weekly basis. Have they not heard “what God has in store for those who love Him”? 1Cor 2:9
Eat dinner with your family every night. The only mortal sin I ever heard about growing up, was missing family dinner! This is profound. This one activity correctly prioritizes what is most important to you. We are all so driven to chase the almighty dollar so that we can give our families a better life, when giving our family a better life can begin with conversation and a meal. You see, families are “the domestic church” or the little church. You are called to do at your home what the Christian family is called to do on Sundays. AT dinner you have the opportunity to talk about who you are as a family: Your values, dreams and beliefs. You are nourished on both the words of those around the table and the food you partake in. The dinner table is the place I learned about who I was as a member of the Caprio family as well as a member of the Catholic Church. Don’t miss the opportunity to impact your family deeply. Following are a few statistics on the impact on children of families having dinner regularly with their children: 30% are more likely to have an excellent relationship with their mother; 60% are more likely to have an excellent relationship with their father; 40% are more likely to confi de in their parents with a serious problem; 70% are less likely to use illegal drugs and 75% less likely to use tobacco.
Give generously to the Lord, for everything you have, you have received. “Every good gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights” (Jam 1:17). St. Pope John Paul II said that we are created to give ourselves away. “It is only in the sincere gift of self that one fi nds himself” (Gaudium Et Spes, 22). We are happiest when we are generously sharing what we have with others. Our time, treasure and talent are all precious to us but until we share them generously with those around us, it is we who are short changed! I come from a family of 6 children, and my parents gave generously to the Church in monetary and service donations. They set an example that all of my siblings have continued to follow. An example of what it means to become a disciple of Christ.
I encourage you to sign up for a ministry with your family, to begin giving or increase your giving to St. Michael so that we can continue to offer the exceptional liturgy and programs that prepare parents for baptism, educate children in the faith, Confi rm the youth and adults, initiate adults into the Faith and prepare couples for marriage.
For those married couples who would like to participate in a ministry to enrich marriage and family life, please contact me at [email protected] .
Blessings, Mary CaprioPastoral Associate for Evangelization
