Dear Sisters and Brothers, All those holiday parades for Veteran’s Day, then Christmas, not to mention many, many

Christmas parties have sure kept some of us busy. But though the cold days of winter are upon us we still have plenty of events coming up! All the Lee-Jackson Banquets will soon be upon us. And before you know it it will be TN SCV Division and TNSOCR Reunions! Y’all just don’t know how much fun and encouragement they are if you haven’t attended. General Morgan Inn, site for the meetings is gorgeous! Our registration form is on the website as well that of the SCV. Remember if you wish to attend the Fri. night social, luncheon after our meeting, banquet, and/or the Tea in the afternoon these must be registered and paid thru the SCV. If you’re going that far, stay for the Tea anyway – many of you will still be home by dark.

A few months ago our extremely hard-working and dedicated current Registrar Linda Boshers gave notice she’ll be stepping down from that position. She is very busy visiting many camps all around the AOT with her husband, Jason, running for Lt. Commander in Chief of the SCV. We love Linda and she’s done a fantastic job for a long time, no conflicts, no issues with anyone. She is a very busy lady, with a full time job as well. She needed something taken off her plate. Linda will still remain our state chaplain. I am so grateful for all the hours Linda has devoted to OCR keeping us all straight.

I sent out a call asking if anyone was interested in taking Linda’s place as registrar, be on the membership committee, or wishing to run for an office. Well guess we’re all so busy in our home chapters very few responded. The new membership committee will retain Dottie Meadows and Mary Hood, and add Debria Beatey. Sisters, we thank you for your dedication and offers to help.

Dottie Meadows has submitted her letter of intent to run for state president. Debria Beatey has stated she wishes to be placed on the ballot to again run to retain her current position as state treasurer. I have not heard from anyone else. This means the positions of secretary, and E. TN VP will have vacancies. A ballot will be emailed to every member to be printed off and snail mailed to Debria Beatey the first week of April, to be opened and counted in our EC meeting.

  • Jane Simmons Davis Chapter #6, Murfreesboro

This fall, the women of the Jane Simmons Davis Chapter 6 began their community service project supporting the women veterans who are patients at the Murfreesboro VA Hospital. We prepared bags of toiletry items and Melanie Patterson and myself took them to the hospital on Oct. 10. The staff there were very appreciative of our efforts. We will do this again in about six months. In October, our chapter coordinated and manned the concession stand at The Sam Davis Home Ghost Tours. These take place on two weekends in October. We did this as both a fund raiser and to assist the Sam Davis Home staff. We enjoyed greeting people and talking with many about our Southern heritage. Unfortunately, the weather caused the staff to cancel one of the weekends. On Dec. 14, several members participated, along with our SCV camp, in the Eagleville Christmas parade. This parade was particularly exciting because Trace Adkins also participated and kindly took pictures with those who wanted a picture with him. On Dec. 21, some of our members, along with members of SCV Camp 33, gathered for a Christmas lunch at 219 Mixed Cuisine restaurant. On Dec. 29, in spite of the bad weather, members gathered to honor the soldiers buried in Confederate Circle in Evergreen Cemetery in Murfreesboro. Alice Gibson, President God Bless y’all and God Bless Dixie! On Nov. 23 several of us participated in the On Dec. 8, several members participated, Memorial Service at the along with our SCV camp, in the Sam Davis Home. It was a beautiful and Murfreesboro Christmas Parade. solemn occasion.

  • Sophie Reilly Hatton #24, Lebanon

Sophie Reilly Chapter #24 has been busy this quarter. We continue to work on our project for

the schools in Grundy County. We were able to put together 30 hygiene bags to present to the

Middle School. They included necessities such as brushes, shampoo, conditioner, soap,

washcloths, deodorant, personal hygiene items and much more. The students in this school have

very little and those backpacks of items were greatly appreciated

    .

Another project was cleaning the General’s grave along with his family’s stones. The SCV and

OCR worked together along with our experts Billy and Katy Walker. Several members have

participated in parades throughout the State. We marched in the Lebanon Veterans Day parade

in November. We had a great turn out for that parade and had lots of fun. Some of our

members participated in the Winstead Hill march. Many members continue to do presentations

to SCV camps and other organizations. Tom Meadows and Terry have made several

presentations. Martin and Dottie were invited to a special event at the Wilson County Museum

in Lebanon. They went dressed and portrayed General Hatton and Sophie. The people who

attended were very interested in the presentations. Christmas parties were fun.

Our December service project was helping pack boxes for A Soldier’s Child event. Robert,

Martin, Dottie and Nancy were on hand to help. The group gives presents to children of fallen

soldiers. Submitted by Nancy Wood, Sec/Historian

  • Maria Baker Lemmon #25, Covington

Well.......once again, we have been busy during this quarter.... Since we have participated and been involved in so many activities, I will try to keep my comments short concerning our events and bullet point the main events...

September 28 (which didn't get added into last quarter) we had our annual Covington Heritage Festival. The Simonton-Wilcox SCV and Maria Baker Lemmon TNSOCR #25 sat up on the court house lawn by our Confederate statue, with tents, cannons and displays. Our Kids Honor Guard marched down the street to the court square, lead by drum cadence and posted the colors. They also lead the pledge to the US Flag, and salutes to the Tennessee Flag and the Confederate Flag. There was a skirmish with the yanks on the square and then later an old time bank robbery. A great BBQ lunch was then enjoyed by all who attended and helped us with our event.

October 10-13, we made our annual trek to Columbus-Belmont Kentucky, where we participated in school days education on Friday, night fire Friday night, then on Saturday the Battle and the BIG event was the wedding of Crystal and Roger “Boogie” Ferrell, and what a BEAUTIFUL Wedding it was!!! Many of our members not only were present but participated in the grand event!!!. All our kids were present for this event and enjoyed the Grand Ball, even though most of us adults were too tired and COLD to participate ( lol). At the Sunday morning memorial service, Young Rebel;, Jesse Boland lead the pledge to the US Flag and the Salute to the Confederate Flag. Our members manned the cannon for the cannon salute. Sunday's battle ended the wonderful fun-filled weekend...... can't wait until next year!!!!

October 19, several of us participated in the re-dedication of the Confederate Memorial in Union City, Tennessee.

November 2 found us at NBF and Eva Beach for the annual Civil War Days. Maddie and Jesse Boland were given junior ranger pins for their participation in the days events.

November 10 – we traveled to Elmwood Cemetery in Memphis, Tennessee, where Don Harrison ( a tour guide and expert on Elmwood and the Confederate History there, gave us a GREAT tour and history of the cemetery and our beloved Confederates buried there!

November 16 – We participated in Living History Day at the Tipton County Museum. We fired cannons and I gave a talk on Women of the Civil War to a room full of interested folks. The museum director was so pleased with the event and turn out that she wants me to come and speak again during Women's History Month in 2020, and she wants to make the event an annual event and even bigger and better.

December 8 – we had a SCV/OCR Christmas Social that was well attended. The kids were given many badges and pins for the year ( since we had not given them any for their achievements and participation since our State Convention in April. Good Food and Good Fellowship was enjoyed by all. We collected a great deal of food for the local food bank. We ended the event with reading the story of the “Christmas Spider” and our kids made their own keep sake spider ornaments.

December 14 – Several of us went to Ft. Pillow to help do a living history and education program for folks doing the river cruise on the American Duchess.. This was well received by all in attendance.

2020 is already stacking up to be event and fun filled year!!! Submitted by Claudia Chapman, President

The last 3 months has been a whirlwind of events and parties. It is truly the season to be merry. There have

been times of laughter with good friends and good food which makes for lots of wonderful good memories to

    cherish through the years.

Dr. Mona Henson, Margie Potts, James Randall and Jim Weaver attended the Chickasaw Indian Heritage Days

on Oct. 20. They carried the cannon and shot several volleys for the spectators.

Phyllis Brown, Jeanne Reed, Margie Potts and Dr. Henson cooked a Thanksgiving meal on Nov. 7 for the

Shiloh SCV Camp #1454 during their monthly meeting. They had a candlelight service honoring all the

    ancestors of everyone attending.

On Dec. 5, Jeanne Reed, Phyllis Brown, Dr.

Henson and Margie Potts hosted a 1860‘s

Confederate Christmas Party for the Shiloh

Camp. They presented the program at the

Shiloh Methodist Church which is on the

actual battlegrounds. The ladies prepared two

different table. One was a Northern dining

table which was fancier complete with china

dinnerware and bought toys for the kids. The

Southern dining room had wicker chairs,

handmade toys and more homespun table

    décor.

Dec. 7, Jeanne and Steve Reed, Dr. Henson

and Margie Potts attended the Sam Watkins

Brigade Christmas Party at Elm Springs in

Columbia, TN, SCV headquarters. The guest speakers were AOT Commander Jason Boshears and TN Div.

    Commander James Patterson

Also, on Dec. 7, Debbie Erickson, Lou Shaw, Chris Braun and Jan Hensley attended the Christmas party for the

    19TH

Alabama Civilian Corp at Tom and Nancy Wood’s beautiful home at Mt. Juliet. Bill and MaryAnn Hoover

graciously invited Debbie, Lou, and Chris to camp out at their house. (and yes Bill and MaryAnn actually

offered them real beds instead of cots and a canvas tent) and Vonda Dixon offered Jan Hensley an actual bed at

    her house.

Dec. 10 Margie Potts and Dr. Mona Henson attended the Ike Stone SCV Camp meeting at

Reagan, TN in Henderson Co. Clay Crook was the guest speaker. He gave a very interesting speech on the

Home Guard in Henderson/McNary County around the Doe Creek School area. He talked extensively on a man

by the name of Fielding Hurst who become notorious for committing atrocities against the local citizenry.

Everyone in the Mariam Beck Forrest #5 would like to wish all our OCR family a very Happy and Safe New

Year. We are all looking forward to seeing each of you in 2020 when once again we will be able to hug your

neck, laugh with you, share memories and create new ones.

  • Aunt Polly Eaton Williams Chapter #10, Gainesboro Fall is a super busy time of year. October began with Vonda heading to WV to again do a school day and participate in the memorial service there. We organized the potluck “Confederate Thanksgiving” meal as Jefferson Davis proclaimed the 1st Thanksgiving 5 Nov 1861 and the 2nd on 15 Sept 1862, we thereby choosing a date between for our feast. Vonda also spent a day and Rich and Tamathy all weekend (their 1st reenactment) at Camp Wildcat. Rich, Tamathy, Ray, and Penny participated in the Gainesboro Ghost Walk. Vonda presented flag programs in Pikeville and Cookeville SCV Camp meetings.

Nov. began with the final reenactment at Mill Springs attended by Cassie and Vonda. Members marched in Veteran’s Day parades in Sparta and Lebanon. We honored our heroes in the Neal Memorial and the annual Sam Davis remembrance and ghost walk. Rich and Tamathy made the 2 mile march into Franklin from Winstead Hill. We were again invited to decorate a tree in the Granville Museum display.

December began with the CW & Relic Show in Franklin, attended by 3. I have been a member of the Society since 2014. I am the East Tennessee Vice President, the President of Sophie Reilly Hatton #24 and have been on the state Membership Committee for the past two years. I am a TN life member, NC life member and a member of the Delaware Society. Dottie Meadows

    30 December 2019

To the members of the Tennessee Society Order of Confederate Rose,

I am again seeking reelection to the position of State President. I believe most of you know me

and know my record as a devoted and hard worker for the Society, in my chapter, state, and

Confederation. I have been a member of the TNSOCR since 2006 and a member of Aunt Polly

Eaton Williams Chapter #10 since its formation that same year and an officer for all of those

years. As well as the Tennessee Society I am a member of Alabama's Sallie Driskell Chapter #19

and Florida's Matron Phoebe Pember Chapter #1. I am also a member of Emma Sansom UDC

#2701 and an associate member of Morgan’s Men. I do CS flag programs across the state, in 13

SCV camps so far, as well as other venues. I've worked hard thru many trying times and yet

even thru those we have grown and flourished during my terms in office. I would appreciate

your vote this April to allow me to continue to serve the Tennessee Society for the 2020-2022 term

    as your president.

  • Wild Mountain Roses #14, Elizabethton Several events have occured in our chapter this last quarter of 2019 and all of us are excited to see what 2020 brings our way.

Jackie Weaver Dennison was a very busy Rose during the months of October thru December. She participated in 12 activities among them were 3 Virginia SCV camp meetings, 2 Revolutionary War events, the Battle of Blountville follow up meeting to discuss plans pros & cons from the 2019 event & to begin development of plans for the 2020 event, an SCV Christmas dinner event, the Sullivan County Museum & Welcome center ribbon cutting and the Bristol Historical Assn. Meeting featuring Author Michael K. Shaffer on Thomas Cooley.

Cindy Pate attended 2 SCV camp meetings & the camp Christmas dinner. She also attended the Bradford/Rose Christmas dinner in Historic downtown Rogersville, TN.

Boy, did I ever think I was busy during October & November until I looked @ Jackie's listing. She made my month's activities look like child's play. I attended 2 SCV Camp meetings in Cookeville, I went to Washington, DC with a group of 24 Veterans, I also attended the follow up meeting on the Battle of Blountville, I participated in the Battle of Mill Springs Kentucky reenactment for several reasons. It was the 1st reenactment I ever attended & was to be the start of a 20 year re-enactor history to date, one of my maternal GG grandfather's fought in that battle and last but not least... this was to be the LAST reenactment held there since the battlefield was soon becoming a National Park & reenactments are not allowed in National Parks anymore!!

I assisted in the “A Walk In Their Boots” 3 day event to honor Veterans of all wars, I assisted in the “Wreaths Across America” @ the Mountain Home Cemetery in Johnson City for the 1st time, but it will not be my last & I attended the Christmas dinner for the Lt. Robert J. Tipton. I also attended 2 Rev War events during this quarter.

Clara Ingram received her prosthesis during this quarter & is walking but will be continuing with some rehab like instructions on the use of it. Please continue to keep Clara in your prayers. David Greer, the husband of Clara's sister Donna & also an OCR Rose, has been battling cancer for some time now & the last word I got was that he was not doing well, so please keep David, Donna & the extended family in your prayers.
