CONCENTRATIONFor your concentration, you are asked to devote considerable time, effort, and thought to an investigation of a specific visual idea. To document your process, you should present a number of conceptually related works that show your growth and discovery. These works should use the principles of design in an informed and /or experimental way. It is important to define your concentration early in the year so that the work you submit will have the focus and direction required for a concentration.

Concentration ExplanationAs I start my concentration, pieces 1, 2, and 3 represent primary colors. In image 1, the subject matter is a happy, laughing girl. The bright yellow color and her joyful expression parallel with each other, while the lace around her, woven in a floral design, is a subtle beginning of a nature motif. Image 3 depicts red as a sultry color with a girl in a black bathing suit staring at the viewer. Red poppy flowers surround her, symbolizing beauty. Progressing my concentration, images 4, 5, and 6 are secondary colors. Beginning these colors in image 4, I chose to present a pale girl with green hair looking toward small white flowers. She is painted on wood, capturing the green symbolism and nature motif in a more complex state. Image 6, contrasting image 4, is a more traditional and detailed portrait of a girl in purple. I chose purple because both the girl and the color emanate regalness, yet the purple is of a lighter shade, allowing it to parallel with the soft symbolism of lavender. Pieces 7, 9, and 11 end my concentration with tints and shades of colors, representing more complex auras, ending in white. My final piece, Image 11, is a self portrait designed to look more symmetrical than the others, showing balance. It is a key component in the white aura, which wraps up my concentration showing symbolism of having peace within oneself.
