AP Class Information & Benefits

• 344 exams were taken this year at Mather• Students are exposed to college level material, rigor, and will

use skills to manage demanding classes with a support network of teachers

• According to Mattern, Shaw, & Ewing (2011) results of their study revealed a positive relationship between AP participation and majoring in a related field in college. For example, there was a strong link between taking an AP Exam in computer science and majoring in computer sciences in college. Additionally, students’ AP scores in that content area were also related to their likelihood of majoring in that subject area. Results showed that students who took no AP Exams were more likely to not declare a major field of study.
