I studied mechanical engineering BA in Yonsei Uni and ME in KAIST. I was an ex-engineer in Daewoo Electronics for 12 years. I changed my job as a school teacher in my 36 years old, too late comparing with other teachers. I am very happy to participate in this ACA online contest every year. As an educator I have learned to the evaluation system. Through this contest I hope all of us do our best to decrease digital divide and open the door for the communication among APEC economies. May God bless ACA to be a source of blessing to students and educators who have taken participation in this contest. Thank you so much.

  • Buwon Middle School Principal : Kim Junki Short History, Best School

Buwon Middle School was founded since 1991. It has not such a very long history. But our school is well-known as the best school in Incheon. It is not for good school environment or other things. Good students and nice teachers is the proud of our school. School Precept – Honesty Symbol Tree - Zelkova tree. Zelkova tree symbolizes a long life.

  • Incheon Metropolitan City Incheon is close by Seoul, the capital of Korea, so it works as the gate to enter

Seoul. Because Incheon is the closest city to Taiwan and China, it has been the hub of interchange between two countries from old times. Today, Incheon International Airport makes Incheon the gate of Korea so anyone must pass Incheon to visit Korea.

Combined with the Incheon International Airport and Songdo New Information City, Incheon Port is a key harbor in the Yellow Sea-rim area for the next generation. Due to a huge difference between the rise and fall of the tide, the port has well-built dock facilities. It has the annual loading capacity of 74 million tons.

    THE AGUSAN NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL

    Mrs. Epefania Raposon – Ajoc

My name is Epefania Raposon – Ajoc a science teacher of Agusan National High School. I graduated from Mindanao State University, Marawi City, Philippines in 1994 with a degree in Bachelor of Secondary Education, major in Biology and minor in chemistry. I took up my Masters Degree in the same university, major in General Science. I teach General Science to first year high school students.

I always dreamed of being a TEACHER, to be a co - molder of the youth. Being a teacher is not an easy task, you have to be patient, loving, compassionate, and most of all you must be an ICT oriented because I do believed that integrating ICT in the lessons is fun.

Being the coach of the three teams, The COPERNICUS TEAM from Weather and Natural Disasters category, CYBERNATICZ TEAM from ICT Cyber Camp, and Split_ Fire Glaze from Food Pyramid category in the APEC CYBER ACADEMY was a very challenging task for me, but I learned a lot and enjoyed it.

APEC Cyber Academy provided a great experience to us. It enabled us to learn science in a more enjoyable way. Furthermore, it made us meet new friends from other parts of the world. Exploring other participant's webpage helped us gain insight on their culture while we enjoyed viewing their wonderful sceneries.

Through the APEC Cyber Academy the students were able to appreciate the

    14

  • new trends in online learning especially the video conference with the assigned tutors like Ms. Carol Tombers and Ms. Cecilia Estoque. However, due to some technical problems, voices are sometimes not clear.

The time spent with the APEC Cyber Academy is worthwhile. We won't forget the challenges and effort that we have done in ACA. My students learned not only science but also about the advantages of ICT. They were encouraged to study web page making, image and video processing and other ICT skills.

I believe that APEC Cyber Academy is effective in enriching the learning experience of young students. It can even be integrated with the standard curriculum. But considering the limited number of computers in our school, it’s a little difficult. Oftentimes, we spent our ACA uploading on private internet cafes.

The APEC Cyber Academy website is a great help in teaching science and technology. It is my hope that this project will be sustained in the years to come. More students around the world will benefit from it.

A Student’s Voice from one of the Team Members of COPERNICUS

    Miss Alyssa Albano Agra

I’m Alyssa Albano Agra, 13 years of age, studying in Agusan National High School. I am now a high school sophomore. I am from COPERNICUS TEAM. I was born in Butuan City , Philippines on December 09, 1994. I have two brothers and my parents are Mr. Gilbert G. Agra and Mrs. Judith A. Agra.

    15

  • I am a simple girl with many hopes and dreams and winning in this contest with my team mates and my teacher is one of my dreams that I didn’t expect to come true. I thank God for everything that he has planned for me and as well as for the other students who enjoyed this contest. APEC Cyber Academy had really done a great job. I admired the people who participated and supported it. It gave us, young learners, the inspiration, significant lessons and life time experience!. Indeed, it gave much benefits and advantages in learning. We learned to make web pages, use internet and interact with students and experts from different countries. Our team learned a lot not only about science but also about economy locally and internationally. We were able to build friendship and trust too.

Thank you ACA Team for you have given us the courage, inspiration and interest in doing and learning the right way. We thank you for the privilege to be one of the participants of this contest.

The outstanding achievement that we have made is not just because we done our best but also because of the tutors, administrators, teachers/coach, sponsors and other people who encourage us to do our work well. We hope that you will continue to support and help the children from around the world through ACA. God bless and more power

  • INFORMATION ABOUT LORMA GRADE SCHOOL

The opening of ABC Fun School at Lorma in 1976 pioneered the existence of Lorma Grade School. It was founded by Dr. Rufino N. Macagba, Sr. and Dr. Crispina Lorenzana-Macagba when they thought of extending services not only to Nursing students but to children as well. On its first year of operation, Mrs. Lily Sals set the tone for quality education to 17 pupils. After a year, the initial enrolment jumped from 17 to 40. In 1978-1979, a Grade I class was opened to cater to those who completed the Kindergarten requirements. Since then, every year there was a constant increase in the enrolment which meant the opening of another grade level until it was fully completed in 1983. The Board of Directors of Lorma, Inc. knowing the necessity of having a complete grade in elementary, decided to change the name ABC Fun School to Lorma Grade School in1981. Today, Lorma Grade School serves many qualified pupils regardless of religion and race. It is the first school in the north that offers Computer Assisted Instruction. It is duly accredited by the Association of Christian Schools and Colleges Accrediting Agency, Inc (ACSCU-AAI). In February 2005, the Lorma Preschool and Grade School were Re-Accredited to Level II Status, the highest level of Accreditation for

    22

  • Preschools and Grade Schools in the country by ACSCU-AAI for a period of five (5) years from February 2005-2010. Lorma Grade School continues to bring honor to the institution as its students participate and win in various competitions in the field of Math, Science, English, the Arts, Journalism, IT and Athletics at the provincial, regional, national and international levels. 一、祥獅獻瑞迎賓 Chinese Lucky Lion Dance to bring good luck and prosperity

Lions present the meanings of strength, happiness, and warding-off-evils. Lion dancing is the basic physical training of Chinese martial art. We often see lion dancing in Chinese New Year and festivals to bring about prosperous feeling. In early days, lion dancing had the meanings of warding-off-evils, thanking-to-God, and repelling-evil-spirits and widely enjoyed by the public. It soon after changed into the functions of pastimes, group date, entertainments, and health.

Haipu elementary school not only cultivates international view but also promote localization and native emotion on students. In order to make the students to know more about traditional technique and to preserve, pass on, recreate the concepts, to make the students have the interests and appreciation for native activities, the lion dancing and martial art team of Haipu elementary school is organized by Rector Ding-so Go in 1972. It shows out the legacy of school.

    36

  • The team is joined by interested students and performs the practice after class. It has joined more than 280 times performance in many occasions-including overseas. Thanks the support and encourage from the parents, students, and teachers to make it stronger.

六、詩詞童謠吟唱 Poetry & Children ballads Singing

Lugang is an old cultural town. Dingfan Elementary School is located at the outskirts of Lugang. It has been edified by Lugang in culture and erudition. It is honored by “hometown of Poetry & Children ballads”. In 1983, it started to popularize “Poetry & Children ballads Singing” in order to promote students’ temperament and make the essence of Chinese old literature approved.

Poetry & Children ballads Singing Performance which is supported by background of Lugang culture promotes Poetry & Children ballads onto stage and into diversification. Poetry, penmanship, dancing, and music have the same root. Every student has to attend at least one of them. Therefore, the performance is accompanied with not only traditional Chinese music but also penmanship, dancing, and Chinese comic dialogue. It makes traditional art into overall integration. It performs very often all over Taiwan.

柒、Chinese Calligraphy-- By Archie Yang [email protected]

    39

    mailto:[email protected]

  • Calligraphy means 'good' 'writing'. Chinese calligraphy is an art form, and calligraphers are highly respected. There are several styles of writing: Seal, official or clerical, regular, running or semi-cursive, and cursive. Each one has its own characteristics and purpose.

There are seven standard strokes. Some calligraphers believe there are up to thirty-two strokes. Either way, there are many interpretations.

The seven strokes or 'Seven Mysteries' as they are called:

    Horizontal line dot

    sweeping downward stroke vertical line

    sharp curve and downward stroke

    40

  • downward stroke

    Tools

Four treasured supplies for a scholar's study room Brush、Ink、Paper、Inkstone

Paper- The texture is fine and somewhat absorbent.

Chinese ink- It is solid, and usually comes in the shape of sticks. Black ink is made from the soot of pinewood or oil smoke, and a gum substance. Often, these sticks are decorated and highly prized by themselves.

Chinese inkstone- Inkstones are made from stone or pottery. They are flat and hard, and are sometimes shaped into beautiful objects. The calligrapher puts water on the inkstone, then grinds the stick of ink against it. This makes ink that can be brushed on paper. It is important to grind enough ink to finish what you start. If you have to grind more ink, you may not be able to make it the same shade.

Chinese brush- Brushes are made from animal hair that is bundled together and put on bamboo reeds. The Chinese use hair from wolves, sheep, rabbits, deer, foxes, or mice depending on the type of writing. For small delicate writing, use rabbit hair. For bold writing, sheep hair is good. You must take good care of the brushes to keep the point stiff and straight.

    41

  • Brush rest- These stands are used to hold extra brushes. They are usually decorated. When writing Chinese, you must always keep the brush straight up and down. Do not let your palm touch the brush. You must know how to hold the brush correctly to become a good calligrapher.

    Calligraphy takes lots of practice.

The stroke order of a character is important in mastering calligraphy. The stroke order creates the correct effect for the character.

Our Educational Mission Vocational school education plays a very important role in the national development. The goal of vocational school is to enrich students’ professional knowledge, cultivate their professional morality, enforce their abilities for advanced studies, and train perfect technicians with excellent skills. Faced with competition and challenges in the new era of education, I have made a commitment to strive in cooperation with my colleagues to create a higher quality of education for our students. In order to provide students with sufficient competence for their future careers, several conditions should be fulfilled as follows.

To enforce credit requirements: Students must successfully complete all courses according to standards established for each program of study.

To prepare students for certification: To make sure that students are well-prepared to take examinations for professional certification in their respective fields, and that they have skills to do the work for their future careers.

To enrich campus life: Campus life should be well-organized to offer students an enjoyable learning atmosphere, to help them develop an appreciation of art and to further more moral development. Our school has a rich history of sixty years. During this period it has consistently
