A.P.J. ABDUL KALAM DESIGN COMPETITION

The competition is floated by Faculty of Architecture, Uttar Pradesh Technical University, Lucknow. The

new campus of technical university aspires to imbibe the virtues of the personality of Late A.P.J. Abdul

Kalam. To translate this into a tangible entity the university is dedicating a space for installing statues of

great scientists of India in the newly constructed library structure and developing the adjoining central

court. The goal is to inspire a design that will be both an exemplary museum of the twenty-first century

and an internationally recognized symbol of Science.

PRIZES

The winning proposal will be incorporated in the new campus of UPTU by the Faculty of Architecture

consultancy team, along with a prize money Rs. 25,000/-

1st runner up – Rs. 15,000/-

2nd runner up – Rs. 10,000/-

3rd and 4th runner up - Rs. 05,000/-

PROGRAM

The design entry needs to create a landscape area enclosed by administration block, auditorium, library

and academic block. The central court should act as a collective area along with landscape features

reflecting life and values of our former president. This should lead to the library block which will house

the A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Memorial/ Museum along with library space.

Library spaces (for 10,000 books) with museum spaces and statues will include:

Museum section will have 10 life size statues with interactive modern display techniques to exhibit there

biography and work.

Major structural transformation in the given structure are not permitted but minor transformations

supporting design idea, with proper worked out resolution is permitted.

Information which is not provided is left open for participants to assume, with proper

mention/explanation of it in proposal.

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENT (Maximum 7 A2 sheets)

Minimum drawing requirements:

1. Site Layout Plan

2. Detailed Floor Plan

3. Sectional-Elevations / Views – 4 nos. minimum

4. 3D-View and explanatory sketches

All sheets should explain the considerations by the design team, response to context and evolution of

design. The scale of the drawings should be selected keeping in mind the legibility of drawings. Please

mention the scale in each drawing.

All submission must reach by 30th August, 2015 to kalam.competition@gmail.com in .pdf format. Entries

can be sent individually or in groups.
