The National Seafarers Sunday
This is celebrated with festivities by all the
AOS Centers in the Philippines together with
the families, dependents of the seafarers,
manning agencies, shipping lines and
partners in the ministry.
There are different forms of celebrations as
there are many AOS Centers like: liturgical
celebration, motorcade, fluvial parade,
memorial, legal cliniquing, job fair, maritime
students’ parade, etc.
In the Philippines AOS actively joins with the
government agencies in all of these
celebrations. (MARINA, PPA, PCG).
VI. FISHERS
In the Philippines, out of 10 AOS Centers, only
one port is directly seriously engaging with the
Fishers due to a very lucrative fishing business
in the area-the AOS General Santos City.
AOS General Santos City begun its services
with the fishers in 2011 when cases of fishers
detention and repatriation begun to flock or
come to the fore needing direct intervention of
the center.
• cases of detention in the different detention
centers of Indonesia due to illegal entry and
illegal fishing
• Cases of illegal trafficking among fishers
In other regions/areas, intervention to
fisher folks is more on giving lectures like
financial literacy and values formation
