In the beginning, they were timid, and when they weren’t sure about something they became very defensive. But I saw the walls breaking down as they allowed themselves to experiment and explore. Highlights of the YearSchool Programs: This year, Appel Farm delivered 500+ hours of arts education in 11 schools allowing over a thousand young people and teachers access to impactful fine and performing arts instruction. Also specializing in professional development for teachers, Appel Farm’s expert staff partnered with teachers, administrators and teaching artists to further the arts integration movement.

Summer Camp: Since 1960, Appel Farm Arts Camp has welcomed 21,358 children from all over the world, with another 358 campers attending this summer. Purposefully creating a diverse community has always been a core value of the program, and it continued this summer with 171 campers receiving over $750,000 worth of scholarship and tuition assistance.

Social Service: Appel Farm served 250 underprivileged families and at-risk youth in partnership with regional social service agencies to enhance wellness through the arts.

Arts Retreats: Leadership Camps for Girls, Mothers and Daughters, and Family Arts Retreats brought almost 1,000 children and families to Appel Farm for arts enrichment programs with intentional opportunities to connect and develop 21st century skills. 268 Girl Scouts from 37 Troops earned Daisy, Junior, and Cadette Journey Awards and 8 Arts Badges at Appel Farm.

Festivals: Our Teen Arts Festival, Music & Wine Festival, and Earth Day Festival served over 3,500 community members. This year, 627 Students from 12 Schools participated in the Salem and Gloucester County Teen Arts Festival hosted by Appel Farm.

After School Arts: For the past three years, over 336 children have explored the arts through our Arts Lab after school arts program. This year, 97 more children learned to express themselves, make friends, and value the arts alongside professional teaching artists of puppet theatre, painting, ceramics, yoga, character creation, mask making, multi-media crafts, dance and movement.

Over 200 alumni and friends joined together this September to celebrate Appel Farm’s founders Albert & Clare Appel and the organization’s rich 57 year history. Proceeds from the event and the creation of the Founders Club raised over $100,000, establishing the new Albert & Clare Appel Camp Scholarship fund. Thank you to all of the artists who donated to the silent art auction, which raised over $5,700!

Social Service Programs $96,265
