Designations on Sites

The site is located within Flood Zone 3

Site lies approximately 75m west of Lea Marsh SSSI

Overall Site Performance

This site is a potential replacement for Whisby Quarry and its development could potentially reduce the pressure on minerals extraction from the Whisby/Swinderby area. The site has the advantage of being sited close to Gainsborough which is a potential area of growth. The site also lies in close proximity to the River Trent which the operator has indicated could be used as a means of transport. Once restored it could potentially play a role in addressing habitat objectives and water/flood management. There are however a number of issues which would need to be mitigated against: impact on local SSSI and LWS, hydrogeology/hydrology, and the adjacent public right of way.

Overall Site Performance

This site has been put forward as a proposed extension to Swinderby Quarry. The site has good access to the primary road network and will be screened from Witham St Hughs by industrial units. It lies within a birdstrike safeguarding area for RAF Waddington and therefore any restoration proposals would require appropriate mitigation.

Designations on Sites

Site partly within Flood Zone 3 but considered Water Compatible by the Environment Agency.

Overall Site Performance

The site is a proposed extension to Norton Bottoms Quarry and lies within a Minerals Safeguarding Area and an Area of Search. The eastern edge of site lies approximately 60m from Stapleford and has the potential to have a negative impact on the area. However, the proposals include the use of the existing Norton Bottom Quarry access to the A46 which would reduce potential negative impacts on Stapleford. There are several issues that would need to be considered in full at the planning application stage and mitigation measures secured. In particular, the site lies adjacent to a public right of way and within a birdstrike safeguarding area for RAF Waddington. However, the majority of site lies away from sensitive receptors and is generally suitable for the proposed development.

Overall Site Performance

The site lies on the northern boundary of Lincolnshire adjacent to North Lincolnshire and is a proposed extension to the existing Kettleby Quarry. The existing quarry straddles the border with the processing plant being in Lincolnshire. Whilst it will require the removal of woodland, has the potential to impact heritage assets and lies within a birdstrike safeguarding area for Humberside Airport, impacts can be mitigated during the planning process.

Overall Site Performance

The site lies on the northern boundary of Lincolnshire adjacent to North Lincolnshire and is a proposed extension to the existing Kettleby Quarry. The existing quarry straddles the border with the processing plant being in Lincolnshire. Development at this site has the potential to impact adversely on the Viking Way long distance footpath and this would require appropriate mitigation measures at the planning application stage. Development here has the potential to impact on heritage assets and this would require mitigation. Sand and gravel workings may provide some benefits in terms of restoration to improve flood water storage. The site is also in the birdstike safeguarding area for Humberside Airport.

Overall Site Performance

The site is a proposed extension to the North Kelsey Road Quarry which covers agricultural land to the east of the quarry. The area has been identified as potentially having archaeology significance, being in close proximity to the Roman Town of Caistor. Further assessment would be required to determine the impact on the heritage assets in the vicinity of this site including indirect effects such as traffic and hydrology. Any adverse impacts which may arise as a result of future development on this site would be subject to appropriate mitigation measures determined during the planning application stage.

Designations on Sites

Eastern section of site partially within Flood Zone 3.

The site is adjacent to Bain Pits and Kirkby Airfield Local Wildlife Sites

Overall Site Performance

The site is one of two phases being proposed as an extension to Kirkby-on-Bain Quarry. The site is comprised of two areas both of which are currently agricultural land and are situated in close proximity to a number of local wildlife sites. Potential adverse impacts would need to be mitigated against at the planning application stage however, there may be potential benefits if the site is restored to provide complementary habitats. Whilst there are a number of sensitive receptors within the wider area particularly the close proximity to Conningsby, the site appears suitable and any impacts could be overcome by the implementation of suitable mitigation measures. These will need to include mitigation to prevent any potential birdstike hazards to RAF Coningsby.

The site is a proposed extension to Red Barn Quarry. There are a number of sensitive receptors in the area including Ancient Woodlandand Local Nature Reserves. The site is also within the safeguarding area for RAF Cottesmore. The settlement of Castle Bytham is close to the site and is designated as a Conservation Area. It contains numerous listed buildings and a Scheduled Ancient Monument (the Castle).Despite these sensitive receptors within the wider area, adverse impacts could potentially be overcome by the implementation of suitable mitigation measures

Designations on Sites

Site is largely within Flood Zone 3.

Majority of site is provisionally designated as Grade 2 Agricultural land.

Overall Site Performance

This is a new site proposed to replace the Baston No 1 Quarry. A number of issues have been identified at this site relating to potential impacts on heritage assets, the proximity to the settlement of Baston, the setting of nearby listed buildings and the impact on two rights of way that cross the site. It has therefore been proposed to only include the central area of the site (MS26A-SL) within the plan. The removal of the north western and eastern area (MS26B-SL) will significantly reduce the potential impact of the site on its surroundings.

Overall Site Performance

The site is a proposed extension to the south of Baston No.2 quarry. The main potential constraint identified is the Gravel Drain which cuts through the site and feeds into the Baston Fen SAC. The area to the north has, however, already been worked so it is likely that appropriate mitigation measures would prevent any impact on the Baston Fen SAC. . The site is in close proximity to the village of Langtoft, although the extension would not bring the existing quarry closer to the village. There have been a number of mineral workings within the area and the Environment Agency has raised concerns over the effects of de-watering. These concerns would need to be investigated further and addressed as necessary during the planning process.

Overall Site Performance

The site is a proposed extension to the West Deeping Quarry. The main impact is likely to be on heritage assets including the setting of West Deeping Conservation Area, which includes a Grade I church and II* Manor House>. The Grade II* Molecey’s Mill and Granary lie to the east of the site and further assessment would be required at the planning application stage. The site also affects a public right of way and lies within the safeguarding area for RAF Wittering.
