2. Meteorological data

2.1 Meteorological data from Heathrow Airport, for 2013 has been used in the

assessment. This meteorological site is located within the M4 air quality study

area. A wind rose for this site is presented in Figure A6.4.1 below.

4. Model post processing

4.1 To accompany the publication of the guidance document LAQM TG(09), a

NOx to NO2 converter was made available as a tool to calculate the road NO2

contribution from modelled road NOx contributions. The tool comes in the form

of an MS Excel spreadsheet and uses borough specific data to calculate

annual mean concentrations of NOx. This tool was used to calculate the total

NO2 concentrations at receptors from the modelled road NOx contribution and

associated background concentration. Due to the location of the proposed

development, the ‘All other urban UK traffic’ setting has been selected.

5. Model verification

5.1 The model predictions presented have been verified against monitoring data.

The verification factor used to adjust raw model outputs is presented in Table

A6.4.2. Across the study area, 9 zones were applied as certain areas

performed differently due to site specific variables.

5.2 The above factors were applied to the predicted road NOX concentrations

prior to the conversion of road NOX to road NO2 and addition of NO2

background concentrations to provide predicted total NO2 concentrations at

the receptors.

5.3 The factors were also applied to the predicted road PM10 concentrations in the

absence of any monitoring data with which to calculate specific verification

factors for PM10.

5.4 Table 6.4.3 contains details of the all monitoring sites used within the

verification, including the verification zone for which they have been used to

calculate model adjustment factors. These are also displayed on drawings 6.1

to 6.35 (Document Reference 6.2 (ES Appendices)). Additional measurement

data collected in the area by local authorities etc. that was not used in the

assessment is also shown on those drawings for completeness. Reasons for

not including those measurement data in the assessment are based around

those locations not being considered representative of sensitive receptor

locations in the study area (e.g. located within a car park or too close to an

environmental barrier).
