R.1 Introduction OEA conducted a search of available environmental records as directed by Environmental Data Resources (EDR). EDR uses proprietary techniques to search federal, state, local, and other databases to obtain information on facilities that use, store, transport, or generate regulated substances.

Federal RCRA-CESQG: This database includes selective information on sites, which generate, transport, store, treat, and/or dispose of hazardous waste as defined by the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA). Conditionally exempt small quantity generators (CESQGs) generate less than 100 kg of hazardous waste, or less than 1 kg of acutely hazardous waste per month.

Federal RCRA NonGen/NLR: This database includes selective information on sites, which generate, transport, store, treat, and/or dispose of hazardous waste as defined by the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA). Non-Generators do not presently generate hazardous waste.

Federal ERNS: The Emergency Response Notification System records and stores information on reported releases of oil and hazardous substances. The source of this database is the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA).

Federal US Brownfields: The USEPA’s listing of Brownfields properties from the Cleanups in My Community program, which provides information on Brownfields properties for which information is reported back to EPA, as well as areas served by Brownfields grant programs.

Federal SSTS: Section 7 of the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide and Rodenticide Act, as amended (92 Stat. 829) requires all registered pesticide-producing establishments to submit a report to the Environmental Protection Agency by March 1st each year. Each establishment must report the types and amounts of pesticides, active ingredients and devices being produced, and those having been produced and sold or distributed in the past year.

Federal MLTS: The Material Licensing Tracking System is maintained by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and contains a list of approximately 8,100 sites, which possess or use radioactive materials and are subject to NRC licensing requirements.

Federal FINDS: The Facility Index System contains both facility information and "pointers" to other sources of information that contain more detail. These include: RCRIS; Permit Compliance System (PCS); Aerometric Information Retrieval System (AIRS); FATES (FIFRA [Federal Insecticide Fungicide Rodenticide Act] and TSCA Enforcement System, FTTS [FIFRA/TSCA Tracking System]; CERCLIS; DOCKET (Enforcement Docket used to manage and track information on civil judicial enforcement cases for all environmental statutes); Federal Underground Injection Control (FURS); Federal Reporting Data System (FRDS); Surface Impoundments (SIA); TSCA Chemicals in Commerce Information System (CICS); PADS; RCRA-J (medical waste transporters/disposers); TRIS; and TSCA. The source of this database is the U.S. EPA/NTIS.

Federal US AIRS: The database is a subsystem of Aerometric Information Retrieval System (AIRS). AFS contains compliance data on air pollution point sources regulated by the USEPA and/or state and local air regulatory agencies. This information comes from source reports by various stationary sources of air pollution, such as electric power plants, steel mills, factories, and universities, and provides information about the air pollutants they produce. Action, air program, air program pollutant, and general level plant data. It is used to track emissions and compliance data from industrial plants.

MT WQA: Sites regulated under the Montana Water Quality Act (WQA) are addressed by the Groundwater Remediation Program. These sites typically require long-term soil, surface water, and/or groundwater remediation and monitoring. This program addresses sites that are not addressed by the Leaking Underground Storage Tank Program, CECRA Program, Permitting and Compliance Division, or other state authorities.

CA HAZNET: The data is extracted from the copies of hazardous waste manifests received each year by the DTSC. The annual volume of manifests is typically 700,000-1,000,000 annually, representing approximately 350,000-500,000 shipments. Data from non-California manifests & continuation sheets are not included at the present time. Data are from the manifests submitted without correction, and therefore many contain some invalid values for data elements such as generator ID, TSD ID, waste category, & disposal method. The source is the Department of Toxic Substance Control is the agency.

MT Mines: Mine locations and attributes from the Montana Bureau of Mines and Geology (MBMG) Abandoned and Inactive Mines database. This data was compiled by MBMG using the U.S. Bureau of Mines MILS database as a basis. The information was updated during the USDA Forest Service (Region 1) and U.S. Bureau of Land Management mine inventory (conducted from 1992 to 2002). The coordinates and legal descriptions come from sources of varying accuracy. The attributes included here are a subset of those available from the MBMG database.
