The VFW is a ser vice organization that was first

established in 1899 by Veterans

of Foreign Wars.This VFW was established in

1968. Through our business, we have been assisting Veterans and their famil ies, and Citizens of the Monticello area for 48 years.

The name “Dorchester” was taken from the U.S. Army Trans-port (USAT), that ser ved to transport troups during WWII.

On February 3, 1943, she was torpedoed by a German u-boat submarine; 675 soldiers were lost in the icy Atlantic. This event is often remembered by the story of the four chaplains, that you can read about on display in the hall.
