Battery Removal

Using a large flathead screwdriver,turn the two battery locks to the left tounlock the battery compartment.Remove the battery cover.

Grasp the plastic piece from thebattery, and pull up to remove thebattery.

Keyboard Replacement

Before proceeding, you must first remove:

Battery

Pull the left and right keyboard tabs intowards you, and lift the keyboard upand flip towards you. (The pictureonly shows the right tab being pushedin, but it is easier if both are done atthe same time.)

Remove the two Philips head screwsas shown. (Note – If an airport card isinstalled, it will have to be removedfirst.)

Press the airport card holder down andthen towards you to release thespring.

Insert your index finger under theplastic tab of the keyboard connector,and gently pull up. (If the connectordoes not come out easily, gentlywiggle from side to side while pullingup.)

Ram ReplacementBefore proceeding, you must first remove:

BatteryKeyboard

This step does not require removal ofthe keyboard. To remove ram, gentlypry back the two metal connectors oneach side of the ram chip as shown.(Only one side is shown, but it iseasier is both are pried back at thesame time.) The ram chip will “pop”up. Grasp it, and gently pull it out ofits socket.

Trackpad and Ribbon Cable Assembly ReplacementBefore proceeding, you must first remove:

BatteryKeyboard

This step is extremely important

Grasp the orange trackpad cable(under keyboard), and gently remove itfrom its socket. If this is not donenow, then it will rip later on.

Remove the three Philips head screwsas shown.

This is a very important step

Close the iBook and turn it upsidedown. Using the end of a screwdriveror paper clip, push in the eject buttonto open the cd drive. This will revealthe Philips screw as shown. Removethe screw.

Using a Torx T8 Screwdriver(available fromwww.powerbookmedic.com) , removethe four torx screws as shown.

Remove the two torx screws as shown.(Also located on the bottom side of thecasing.)

Working your way from the bottomright hand side around to the top right-hand side, pry the trackpad up. This takesome initial force to get the connectorsto undo, but after you’ve gotten thebottom right hand side up, work fromthat point to remove the rest of thetrackpad. This step can be tricky, so becareful. (Never use too much force!)

Before the trackpad can comecompletely off, you must undo it fromthe speaker connector. Grab both sidesof the wire and pull. It should comeout very easily.

CD-ROM Replacement

Before proceeding, you must first remove:

BatteryKeyboardTrackpad

Using a Torx T8 screwdriver, insertthe end into the “open screw” asshown. Push down and turn to undothe screw.

Undo the orange ribbon cable bygrasping one side as shown andpulling up.

Pull up and towards you on the driveas shown. There are two latches asshown in the picture that you must lifethe drive out of. You may have towiggle the drive back and forthslightly to remove it from under thecasing.

Modem ReplacementBefore proceeding, you must first remove:

Remove the 10 Philips head screws asshown. In some units there is an 11th

screw located near the speaker cable.

Grasp the shiny paper like strip, andpull it up and back towards the displayto reveal the modem.

Remove the six Philip head screws asshown.

Lift the modem up, and undo themodem cable from the modem.

Display ReplacementBefore proceeding, you must first remove:

BatteryKeyboardTrackpadCd-RomModem

Remove the two screen ribbon cablesfrom their motherboard connectors asshown. (Grasp the cable, and pull up.If the cable does not easily come out,pull up and gently wiggle from side toside.) Remove the orange tape holdingdown the airport cable as shown.

Remove the five Philips head screwsas shown. The display should now liftright off. (Be careful not to lose thesmall screws holding down the bezel.)

Stiffener Assembly Replacement

Before proceeding, you must first remove:

BatteryKeyboardTrackpadCd-RomModem

Remove the speaker cable as shown. Liftoff the tape, and guide around the tabsholding the cable in place. The pull upfrom the connector to remove it from thelogic board.

Remove the stiffener simply by liftingup and out. It should come off veryeasily

Battery Board Replacement

Before proceeding, you must first remove:

Stiffener Assembly

To remove the battery charger / clickerboard, undo the one Philips headscrew as shown. Then, lift the boardup, and grasping from the cable, undothe cable from its logic boardconnector at the point shown.

Hard Drive Replacement

Before proceeding, you must first remove:

Stiffener Assembly

Using a Torx T8 screwdriver, insertthe end into the three “open screws”as shown. Push down and turn toundo the screws.

Place your index finger under theplastic tab of the hard driveconnector as shown. Lift up toremove the cable from itsmotherboard connector.

DC-IN Board Replacement

Before proceeding, you must first remove:

BatteryKeyboardTrackpadCd-RomModem

Stiffener Assembly

Grasp the AC Board as shown, andlift up to undo the board from itsmotherboard connector. Removingthe board from this stage is difficult.Push the plastic casing away fromthe board, and wiggle the board untilit is free from the casing. Sometimesthis is easier than other times. (Becareful not to use too much force oryou will break the plastic case.)

Logic Board Replacement

Before proceeding, you must first remove:

Stiffener AssemblyBattery Board

Hard DriveDC-IN Board

Using a Torx T8 screwdriver, insertthe end into the four “open screws”as shown. Push down and turn toundo the screws.

There is one Philips head screw thatmust be removed as well. It is infront of the ram slot as shown.
