NameThe name of the Apple Company was
nothing fancy or glamorous; it was just
named after an apple fruit. But at least it
was not a typo error like in Google,
which had its original name as Googol
and a student mistook the name and
spelled it wrong during registration.
APPLE I• established on April 1, 1976 by Steve
Jobs, Steve Wozniak, and Ronald Wayne,
to sell the Apple I personal computer kit.
• priced was $666.66 ($2,723 in 2012
dollars, adjusted for inflation)
APPLE II
• was introduced on April 16, 1977
• it came with color graphics and the VisiCalc –
first spreadsheet program
APPLE III
• introduced the Apple III in May 1980 in
an attempt to compete with IBM and
Microsoft
Lisa and Macintosh• The Lisa was introduced in 1983 at a
cost of US$9,995 ($23.3 thousand in
present-day terms). Because of the high
price, Lisa failed to penetrate the
business market
• The Macintosh was announced to the
press in October 1983.
PowerBook
• was introduced the PowerBook in 1991
• weighed 7.5 kilograms with a 12-hour
battery life
iMac
• was introduced on August 15, 1998
• sold almost 800,000 units in its first five
months
iPod
• was announced on October 23, 2001
• was phenomenally successful — over
100 million units were sold within six
months
iPhone and Apple TV
• was announced on January 9, 2007
• the following day Apple shares hit
$97.80, an all-time high at that point
iPad• was announced on January 27, 2010
• sold more than 300,000 units on the first
day and reaching 500,000 by the end of
that week
