› Target Audience: 3-7 year olds
› Resources required:› Book Applesauce and the Christmas Miracle
› Art paper and paints/chalk pastels
› Pictures by Australian artists e.g. Russell Drysdale
ACTIVITY SUGGESTIONS:
› As a whole class, have the students brainstorm adjectives and words used to describe the land after a bushfire. Create a word bank of these words and images. Include examples from the text as well as examples from the students.
› As a class construct a poem together using the sentences/images above, e.g. a Haiku poem and illustrate with chalk pastels. You could choose a group title e.g. After the Bushfire or let children create their own titles.
› Look at the artwork of Australian artists like Russell Drysdale. Discuss and recreate images of drought stricken bush land using painting or chalk pastels.
