SPI Appleton Limited resulted from the merger of Steel Pile Installations(SPI) with Appleton Piling in 2012. SPI was formed in 1999 and was wellestablished with an excellent reputation when it was acquired by A E YatesLimited in 2006. The new company offers customers a wider range of steelpiling activities and specialist experience in steel intensive basements.Solutions from £5,000 to £2,000,000 based on the following range ofequipment are available to suit any customer requirements.• Vibratory Leader Rig – purpose designed for sheet piling installationand extraction of sheet piles. These rigs have short set up times, highoutput capability and all operations are carried out near or at groundlevel

• Hydraulic Pile Press – uses previously driven piles to drive and extractpiles without noise or vibration. The press and power pack are selfcontained and ideal for environmentally sensitive, inner city, restrictedor constrained sites and over open water

• Movax Hammers – mounted to an excavator the hammer is selfsufficient once pile packs are unloaded. This hammer is ideal forworking in restricted conditions, including headroom, and can drive onembankments. The hammer can also drive tubular piles and posts.

• Vibratory Hammers – crane suspended and adaptable to pile type• Impact hammers – attached to leader rig and adaptable to pile type

• Enhanced Stabilising - a development of stabilising giving a higherquality material with better performance

Solutions are developed for projects from£20,000 to £2,000,000 based on the following techniques.• Continuous Flight Auger (CFA) Piling – augered concrete pilesdriven with little vibration to a predetermined depth

• Rotary Piling – works well in stiff clay and good ground where thebore does not require support

• Driven Piling – generally refers to precast concrete piling in whichlong sections are driven and then mechanically jointed to the nextsection

• Vibro Concrete Columns (VCC) - can be installed quickly incomparison to other piling methods and are very good forstabilising the ground in soft conditions

• Mini Piling - often used for underpinning • Tripod Piling - excellent in a restricted access situation• Retaining Walls - contiguous and secant bored pile wallscommonly used to support the sides of basement, tank or bunkerexcavations

A E Yates Trenchless Solutions Limited was originally formed as A EYates Microtunnelling in 1995 by A E Yates Limited. Formation of aspecialist contractor was in direct response to increasing experience andworkload in the underground engineering sector. The company wasrenamed A E Yates Trenchless Solutions in 2004 to reflect theincreasingly varied types of trenchless work that are now undertaken.Solutions for projects from £3,000 to £10,000,000 are developed basedon the following range of techniques to suit any customer requirementor need;• Microtunnelling – 600mm to 2000mm in house and larger withpartners

• Open faced tunnelling – 1200mm to 2000mm as a cost effectivealternative to microtunnelling for appropriate ground conditions

• Guided Auger Boring – 150mm to 900mm for line and level criticalinstallation

• Unguided Auger Boring – up to 1200mm where line and level is notso critical

• Shaft sinking – top down and underpinned caissons• Tanks and cofferdams - from 2 metre diameter upwards • Pipebursting – up to 600mm with manhole and chamberreconstruction in addition to the replacement pipe
