SUBARU/LEAVE NO TRACE TRAVELING TRAINERS Position Opening: The Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics seeks two dynamic, tech savvy, extroverted teams of educators for Subaru/Leave No Trace Traveling Trainer positions for the contract period mid- April 2019 through mid-April 2020. Leave No Trace is an international movement, nonprofit organization and education program dedicated to protecting the outdoors by teaching people to enjoy it responsibly. The Subaru/Leave No Trace Traveling Trainer Program is the organization’s mobile education arm, delivering Leave No Trace education, programs, and outreach to local communities across the country. Sponsored by Subaru of America, this program celebrates 20 years of education in 2019. Description: Subaru/Leave No Trace Traveling Trainers must be passionate educators, skilled communicators and content creators, and ready to live, work, and thrive on the road. Only pre-paired teams of two will be considered. Teams must be available and make a commitment for the entire contract period from mid-April 2019 through mid-April 2020 (exact dates to be determined). As Traveling Trainers, teams live on the road, camp 100-200 nights a year, and deliver Leave No Trace programs to children and adults of all experience levels and ages in both indoor and outdoor settings, in all seasons and conditions. Teams also produce videos, blogs, weekly social media content, and detailed program reporting. Teams will work and travel in regions of the country as needed by the Center, with the majority of programs in frontcountry settings with first time visitors, both children and adults. They also work closely with land managers and park staff on programs such as Leave No Trace Hot Spots, which can include frontcountry, backcountry and urban/suburban settings. Teams are outfitted with a Subaru vehicle, basic equipment and supplies necessary for teaching and camping, and technology for communication needs.

Responsibilities: The Subaru/Leave No Trace Traveling Trainers represent the Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics as ambassadors and educators and should be prepared to do all of the following:

• Educate > Communicate > Camp > Drive > Educate > Communicate > Camp > REPEAT • Prepare and present Leave No Trace trainings and programs for diverse groups of all ages

and backgrounds including youth, land managers, park staff, college students, outdoor industry employees, hiking/paddling/climbing and other user groups and the general public.

• Generate social media content including photos, blogs and videos for the Center’s website, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube and Twitter on a weekly and/or monthly basis.

• Lead discussions and facilitate meetings with land managers and other stakeholders at Leave No Trace Hot Spots. Produce written reports including analyses of recreational impacts, Leave No Trace solutions, and recommendations for Leave No Trace implementation strategies.

• Exhibit in boothing/expo areas at trade shows, conferences, outdoor festivals, races, trailheads, and other forward-facing events to promote our mission, membership and partnership programs.

• Communicate regularly with staff at the Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics and on-site event hosts regarding program logistics, details and reporting.

• Be high energy, open, positive, and ready to engage with whatever the day requires, representing the Center and program sponsors in a professional manner at all times.

Leadership and Interpersonal Requirements: • High-level of motivation, energy, creativity, adaptability, and professionalism. • Interpersonal skills to facilitate work with a wide range of people and groups from diverse

backgrounds. • Must enjoy working with and educating both adults and children of all ages and all outdoor

experience levels. • A positive, flexible disposition as well as the ability to deal with an evolving, unpredictable,

and demanding travel itinerary. • Exceptional time-management and organizational skills, including strong problem-solving

skills. • Established interpersonal relationship and excellent dynamic between team members.

Education, Communication, and Technical Requirements:

• Exceptional communication skills, including charismatic and entertaining public speaking and writing.

• Experience teaching, training or delivering educational programs and activities in an indoor and outdoor environment.

• Research and analytical skills, such as writing or contributing to organizational reports, white papers or assessments.

• Savvy with creating social media content, video creation, and photography. • Personal budgeting and expense tracking skills. • Demonstrated passion for the environment, conservation, and participation in outdoor

recreation. • Current certifications in, or ability to obtain, CPR and Wilderness First Aid or Wilderness

First Responder. • Prior Leave No Trace experience/familiarity. • Bachelor’s degree. • Proficiency with Google Docs or MS Office Suite, social media platforms, Mac OS, Adobe

photo and video editing software. POSITION: Subaru/Leave No Trace Traveling Trainers DATES OF EMPLOYMENT: mid-April, 2019 through mid-April, 2020 (exact dates to be determined) SALARY/BENEFITS: Limited monthly salary, living stipend, health insurance stipend, travel expenses, a vehicle, and basic gear for life on the road.
