Green Capital Small Grants Fund Monitoring Form

1. Amount of grant received?

Purpose of the grant (your summary of what it was for / what you did):The purpose of this grant was to work with multicultural local inner city young people, local organisations and schools to engage them in the Bristol Green Capital pledge to work with a wide range of projects to build “a low-carbon city with a high quality of life for all.” We aimed to inspire young people; who seldom have the opportunity to engage in creative activities, to think about what ‘nature’ meant to them through giving them a voice to share thoughts about their environment, outdoor places and spaces they know, share and live in both locally, city wide and globally. We provided opportunities for young people to either start writing and/or develop their performance skills and understanding for the need to take personal action to enhance knowledge, be pro-active and effect change.Our aim was to carry this out through a combination of thought provoking and inspirational:

High profile launch event Music and photography workshops/outreach sessions Creative writing to generate lyrics, jingles, songs, raps and spoken work Local radio training sessions Local radio broadcasts, features and interviews Regular opportunities to perform to spread the word, their words!

All to increase their understanding of and their relationship with nature. How to care for it, appreciate it and better understand how it cares for them and all that lives on earth!Further grant applications made to the arts council £6140 and a trust £2000 was unsuccessful. Together with a reduction to the amount applied £10,000 from Green Capital meant there was a substantial shortfall to deliver the project as originally planned. The offer was narrowed down to focus on specifics within the above mentioned;

Employment of 2 local sessional youth workers who reflected the community we serve. Agreement with key partners and contributors; Visible Thinking, Full Circle, LPW, Tribe of

Doris, City Academy School, Children of Heroes Somali Women’s Group etc. to pool resources, extend the offer and work collaboratively

Outreach work - to engage with and interview young people in their settings, e.g. young people hanging out on the street, adventure play grounds, parks, own/friend’s gardens and youth/community groups.

Structured workshops/sessions – environmental awareness, creative writing, photography and music workshops with live instruments, recording studio and music based computer programmes
