Application of IT in Engineering.• Today’s world is connected by large
hidden but highly complex information network.
IT is used to Design, testing, development, simulations, planning and automating the system.
Application of IT in mechanical Engineering
• Design, analysis, control material, manufacturing method and learn to solve complex problem.
• Test new products without building expensive prototype
• Use of visualization technology to transform data into image or environment
C A D• Computer Aided Design• use of computer systems to assist in the creation, modification, analysis, or optimization of
a design communications through documentation, and to create a database for manufacturing
• software packages range from 2D vector-based drafting systems to 3D solid and surface modelers.
• frequently allow rotations in three dimensions
• design of tools and machinery of all types
C A D• one of the many tools used by
engineers and designers and is used in many ways depending on the profession of the user and the type of software in question.
• used for the accurate creation of photo simulations
• Without it would be time consuming,labour-intensive and costly process
• From the design of a screw • to simulation of complex • machine CAD is used.
C A M• Computer-aided manufacturing• The use of computer software to
control machine tools and related machinery in the manufacturing process
programming tool, wherein two-dimensional(2D)or three dimensional (3D) models of components• Geometrical design data to control automated machine
C A M• Shortcoming in expense, ease of
use, decrease Manufacturing
complexity• Zoom feature whereby designer
can magnify certain element of a model to inspection
• BUT incorporating information about the nature of material- weight, strength
flexibility
C A E• The broad usage of computer software to aid in engineering tasks.• It includes computer-aided
design (CAD),computer-aided analysis (CAA),computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) and computer-aided planning (CAP)
• CAE tools are very widely used in the automotive industry and aerospace.

• AutoCAD is an interactive drawing system designed to permit a user to construct or edit a drawing on a graphics display.
• AutoCAD is used in field of architectural and mechanical designing, mapping and 3D.
• Ansys, pro E and caden are other example
Automation and robotics
• Use of machines, control systems and information technologies to optimize productivity in the production of goods and delivery of services
• to increase productivity, and quality beyond that possible with current human labor
• Improved robustness (consistency), of product and greater precision
• Keep the track of material
Application of IT in civil Engineering
• The application of planning, designing, constructing, maintaining, calculations, including structural design, geometry calculations, and applications for project management.
• Remote sensing the study of phenomenon sensed from air or satellites. The use of remote sensing provides engineers with an opportunity to interpret data as seen from space. This facility is particularly useful in surveying very large areas at relatively little cost
Application of IT in electronic Engineering• A broad scientific and profound
knowledge of electronic circuits and systems knowledge of telecommunications and computer-controlled systems.
• Advantage of the speed of computer analysis, the engineer can explore a greater number of design options in a short period of time.It allows an engineer to make immediate comparisons and see the impact of each.
• We can develop structural behaviour from a single project rather than having to await the accumulative experience of several projects.
Application of IT in chemical Engineering• Advancements in computer
science found applications designing and managing plants, simplifying calculations and drawings, that previously had to be done manually.
• Engineering work processes is an emerging and challenging area of research and development.
• Supporting the activities during the life cycle of a chemical process by means of information technology. Emphasis will be largely on the process and plant design process
Modeling, numerical analysis and simulation • Informatics and intelligent systems • Process and product synthesis/design • Process control and monitoring• Events management and process safety• Plant operations, integration, planning/scheduling and supply chain.
Global chemical industry by focusing on advancements of information technology and business management skills.
• IT can provide easy access to various statistics, drawing & various other data concerning the project.Self check toolscan identify the problems in various systems like fire fighting, air conditioning & can automatically inform concerned service provider.
• IT can also help in prompt reporting of problem.
CONCLUSION• Finally , IT can be used by engineers
for various design, testing, maintain, simulation and executing the given problem with low investment and the
• benefits can be gained.
• The only need is to
• I Investment in IT e education among the e engineers &recognition of the enormous potential lying beneath.
