FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: Does the $50 payment cover vehicle registration fees?A: No, the license plate fee is not part of your vehicle registration renewal fee. The $50 payment will cover two Nationals license plates for the front and back of your vehicle.

Q: Can I personalize the plate?A: No, each plate will display four numerical digits and cannot be personalized.

Q: Can I request a specific plate number, like “0089”? If not, how will plate numbers be assigned?A: No, we will not take special requests for plate numbers. The MVA will assign plate numbers at random and it is up to the discretion of the MVA as to what numbers will be generated. Please note that plate “0000” will not be issued as a valid Nationals license plate. The Washington Nationals Dream Foundation will be holding the first 100 plates to auction off at a later date after the 2013 season.

Q: Can I get a Nationals license plate for my passenger car, multi-purpose vehicle or truck?A: Yes, these license plates will be available for display on all of the above vehicles. Trucks (10,000 lbs. or less) will be allowed to display these plates.

Q: Can I get a Nationals license plate for my boat and trailer?A: No, Nationals license plates will not be available for display on boats and trailers.

Q: Can I get a Nationals license plate for my motorcycle?A: No, Nationals license plates are not available for motorcycles.

Q: Can I order a Nationals disability license plate?A: No, disability plates are not currently available. You may still purchase a license plate, but must display a disability hangtag on your vehicle.

Q: Could I order a plate to keep as a souvenir and not use it on my car?A: No, you have to buy the plates and use them on your car.

Q: How long will it take to receive the Nationals license plate once the application form has been submitted?A: The Washington Nationals Dream Foundation will process applications and payments in batches. Applications will be submitted to the MVA on a bimonthly basis for processing. Once the MVA receives the submitted application, plates will be issued from the Glen Burnie office, which processes plates on a daily basis. Plates are typically received in approximately eight to 10 weeks.

Q: If I am about to get a new car, will these plates transfer over to my new car?A: Yes, you can transfer the plates to your new car.

Q: Where will the license plates be mailed to?A: License plates will be mailed directly to the address provided on the application.

Q: What do I do with the old original license plate issued by the MVA?A: Once the new license plate has been received, please return the original plate back to the MVA. You can return old original plates in person to any MVA branch office or mail them to:
