FADE IN:
INT. PUB BOOTH - LONDON - NIGHT
A tall, handsome Brit with disheveled dirty-blonde hair,
REGGIE OLIVER, 35, beams with excitement as he shares news
with his fiercely loyal, short and nerdy longtime best
friend ALFIE SWANSON, 35, as they enjoy cold pints at their
favorite local watering hole, crowded with soccer fans.
REGGIE
I purchased tickets, made dinner
reservations and bought a ring.
Reggie pulls out a small box and shows the ring inside to
Alfie.
REGGIE
I'll propose in Venice.
Alfie shows no excitement at hearing the news.
ALFIE
I hope it all works out.
REGGIE
You could say it like you mean it.
ALFIE
Remember what happened with Tammy?

He speaks to her and reaches to hold her hands. He speaks
again, lets go of her hands and reaches into his suit jacket

leans back in his chair, stunned.

INT. PUB BOOTH - LONDON - NIGHT
REGGIE
I acted too early with Tammy. We
had only been together for a year.
ALFIE
And Melody?

INT. SPANISH RESTAURANT - LONDON - DAY
MOS: Reggie sits across from a shapely redhead about his
age. He repeats the steps he'd taken with Tammy and waits.
She stands, throws her cloth napkin on the table, and stompsaway. Reggie leans back in his chair, stunned.

REGGIE
Two years with Melody was enough.
Alfie shakes his head.
ALFIE
And what makes Julie different?
REGGIE
I think she'll say "yes."
ALFIE
And why do you think that?
REGGIENo particular reason, but there's
one thing I've learned in sales
that I think applies to dating as
well: Every "no" means I'm one step
closer to a "yes." So, unlike you,
I'll keep asking.

ONE DAY LATER
INT. 4-STAR RESTAURANT - LONDON - NIGHT
Soft piano music fills the air as JULIE WHITE, 31, a raven-
haired, blue-eyed bombshell, sits across from Reggie, whose
eyes appear to be locked on the screen of his smartphone.
Julie looks around, bored and ready to leave. As a busboy
clears their table and walks away, Reggie finally puts his
phone away and, oblivious to her discontent, looks at Julie.
REGGIE
I need you to clear your schedule
for December.
JULIE
Why?
REGGIE
We're going on a trip -- to
celebrate our third anniversary!
Reggie removes a colorful brochure from his jacket pocket
and holds it in front of the now-stone-faced Julie.
REGGIE
We’ll go Gangnam Style in Seoul,
ride cable cars in San Francisco,
dance the Tango in Chile and walkacross the Australian Outback.
Reggie pauses, looks into Julie's eyes and sees nothing.
REGGIE
Then we'll go on safari in South
Africa and end our trip in Venice!
Reggie reaches for Julie's hands, but she pulls them back.
REGGIE
What's wrong?
Julie begins to fight back tears.
JULIE
Please take me home.

REGGIE
Why?
JULIE
The idea of traveling around the
world with you and that blasted
phone is ludicrous!
Julie stands and hurries toward the exit. Reggie tosses
several bills on the table and tries to catch up.
INT. REGGIE'S CAR - STREETS OF LONDON - NIGHT
Reggie drives Julie home to her apartment. As he alternates
his attention between the road and Julie, he realizes the
situation is dire and offers a desperate plea.
REGGIE
I'll leave the phone at home.
Julie doesn't reply.
EXT. JULIE'S APARTMENT BLDG ENTRANCE - LONDON - NIGHT
Reggie stops his car and gets out. Before he can walk around
to open Julie's door, she's out of the car and well on her
way toward her building's entrance. He stops on his side of
the car as she looks back over her shoulder toward him.
JULIE
Don't bother.
REGGIE
I'll call you in the morning.
Reggie watches her walk into building.
INT. KITCHEN, REGGIE'S APARTMENT - LONDON - DAY
Reggie sits at his breakfast table, sips coffee and surfs
the web on his phone. He sees a notification on his screen. It's a text message from Julie:
JULIE'S TEXT MESSAGE
I'm no longer in love, and don't
want to see you again. Call it
irreconcilable differences.

Reggie sets his phone down as if it's a hot potato. Seconds
later, he picks it up again and speed-dials Alfie.
INT. BEDROOM, ALFIE'S APARTMENT - LONDON - DAY
A phone rings. Alfie wakes and sees "REGGIE CALLING" on his
caller ID. He accepts the call while lying flat on his back
in bed, eyes closed.
ALFIE
Ay.
INT. KITCHEN, REGGIE'S APARTMENT - LONDON - DAY
Reggie holds his phone in one hand and uses the other hand
to transfer beer bottles from a package to his refrigerator.
REGGIE
I need you over here straight away.
INT. REGGIE'S PENTHOUSE APARTMENT - LONDON - DAY
Elevator doors open at one end of Reggie's great room. Alfie
enters and whistles as he makes a beeline to the kitchen. He
stops whistling when he sees a somber-faced Reggie sitting
on a barstool with a beer bottle in front of him.
REGGIE
She doesn't love me anymore, and
it's all because of this phone.
ALFIE
Why does she care so much about
your phone?
REGGIE
It's not the phone itself. It's the
fact that I can't put it away -
afraid I'll miss an opportunity.
ALFIE
You do know you don't need any more
money, right?
REGGIE
Of course.

ALFIE
So tell her you'll ditch the phone.
REGGIE
I did. Then she hit me with that
text message. Blamed everything on
Irreconcilable Differences.
ALFIE
She must have known you'd take her
seriously if she used an old movie
reference.
REGGIE
Yes. That's one thing she's always
hated - my love for old movies and
television shows.
Alfie decides it's time to change the subject.
ALFIE
It's too bad you wasted so much
money on those tickets.
REGGIE
Wasted?
ALFIE
You bought tickets in Julie's name, and now she's not going. Wasted.
REGGIE
Actually, I've come up with a plan
to use the tickets.
Alfie gets a beer from the fridge and sits next to Reggie.
ALFIE
Okay, tell me about your plan.
REGGIE
I'll invite women who want to
travel around the world with me to
submit their applications online,
and then I'll pick a winner!

ALFIE
Again, you forget that half of the
tickets are in Julie's name.
REGGIE
And that's the beauty of my plan.
The airlines don't care who uses a
ticket as long as the name on it
matches the name on the passport.
ALFIE
Why don't you sell the tickets to
Julie and be done with it?
REGGIE
She's done with me. I'm moving on.
ALFIE
What about your phone addiction?
REGGIE
My what?
ALFIE
Sometimes, it's best to put your
phone away.
REGGIE
Then I'll go without one.
ALFIE
Are you serious?
REGGIE
Deadly serious.
Alfie's eyes grow big as he realizes Reggie isn't joking.
ALFIE
You say all we need to do is find
women named Julie White who have
valid UK passports and want to
travel?
REGGIE
Correct.

REGGIE
I searched online a while ago and,

to be 624 Julie Whites in the UK.
ONE DAY LATER
INT. HOME THEATER - REGGIE'S APARTMENT - LONDON - DAY
Reggie stands in front of an unfinished brick wall as Alfie
adjusts temporary lighting set up in the room.
REGGIE
I memorized this script last night.
ALFIE
The whole thing?
REGGIE
It's only 15 seconds. Ready?
Alfie rolls his eyes and tinkers with the video camera.
ALFIE
I think so. In three, two,...
Alfie reaches the count of one, hits RECORD and points to
Reggie who looks into the camera and delivers his pitch.
REGGIE
Hello, I'm Reggie Oliver, and I'm
looking for someone named Julie
White who wants to see the world
with me. For free. To learn more,

Alfie stops recording soon after Reggie's last word.

INT. COFFEE SHOP IN BUSY URBAN CENTER - LONDON - DAY
JULIE "JULES" WHITE, 28, a short, dark-haired girl built
like a modern dancer, talks on her phone. Seated across from
her is longtime boyfriend, MARCUS RICHARDS, 30. Short and
stocky, Marcus is a sweet and sensitive artist.
JULES
I'll check it out. Bye for now.
Jules ends the call and looks at Marcus.
MARCUS
Your sister?
JULES
Yes, she said a cute millionaire is
looking for a travel companion.
MARCUS
At Millionaire Date Dot Com?
JULES
No, his girlfriend dumped him one
day after he bought tickets to take
her on a trip around the world.
Now, he wants to find a new girl to
go in her place so the money he
spent on tickets isn't wasted.

MARCUS
Of course, travel companion sounds
much more proper and civilized.
Marcus notices Jules has stopped talking and switches gears.
MARCUS
Why did your sister call you?
JULES
Because the man's old girlfriend's
name is Julie - as in Julie White.
Marcus appears incredulous.
MARCUS
You're not serious.
JULES
She told me if I Googled my name,
I'd find the website.
Marcus opens his laptop. Before he begins the search, he
sees a friend has shared a video with him via email.
MARCUS
Roger sent me a link to a video
with your name on it.
Jules moves her chair closer to Marcus as he clicks to play
the video.

MARCUS

Jules shakes her head as Marcus opens a new tab and types in
the website address. Seconds later, the site appears on the
screen. After Marcus scans the details, he begins to sound
like a detective as he quizzes Jules.
MARCUS
Is your name Julie White?
JULES
Yes.
MARCUS
Do you have a valid UK passport?
JULES
Yes.
MARCUS
Are you seriously thinking about
submitting an application?
JULES
Why not?
MARCUS

JULES

INT. OLD FOLKS' HOME - SOMEWHERE IN U.K. - NIGHT
A slightly overweight FEMALE NURSE, 27, works the night
shift. She sits alone in front of a computer at a nurse’s
station and fills in the first two blanks of an online form.

INT. LIBRARY IN LAVISH HOME - SOMEWHERE IN U.K. - DAY
A RAIL-THIN LADY, 50-ish, sits in front of desktop computer
and types a paragraph of her essay for Reggie's contest:
RAIL-THIN LADY'S ESSAY
I might appear much older than you,
but you can believe me when I say
I'm young at heart - and, oh yes,
my name is Julie White.
INT. OFFICE BUILDING - SOMEWHERE IN U.K. - DAY
A 40-ISH BUSINESS WOMAN in a suit asks a similarly dressed
30-ISH COLLEAGUE a question as they walk down a hallway.
40-ISH WOMAN

INT. JULES' APARTMENT - LONDON - NIGHT
Jules sits on the sofa in the middle of her living room,
legs crossed, laptop open in front of her. She stops typing
when she hears her front door open and sees Marcus enter.
Marcus walks up to her from behind, leans over to kiss her
and then drops to his knees so that his chin rests on her
right shoulder. His focus moves to her laptop screen.
MARCUS
What's that?
JULES
The application.
Marcus appears puzzled.
MARCUS
What application?
JULES
The I-want-to-travel-with-a-rich-
bachelor application.
MARCUS
You would leave me to travel the
world with some stranger?
JULES
It's not as if I'm signing on to
become his sex slave.
MARCUS
You don't even know the man!
JULES
Correction. The multi-millionaire.
And you told me to go for it.
Jules smiles at Marcus, then turns and begins to read from
the contest website.

It says he intends to maintain a

and forth in front of Jules as if she is on trial.
MARCUS
Question: What girl would travel
alone with a man she doesn't know
who is, without a doubt, on the
rebound? Answer: A girl who's
asking for trouble.
Marcus looks at Jules for a response. She has a don't-be-
mad-at-me smile on her face, and it makes Marcus smile, too.
INT. REGGIE'S APARTMENT - LONDON - DAY
Reggie sits at his breakfast table, his eyes glued to his
smartphone. Without warning, Alfie enters thru the elevator
doors and walks toward him.
ALFIE
Been online today?
REGGIE
Yeah, the Internet is buzzing.
ALFIE
People want to know who you picked.
REGGIE
But they still do not know the
identity of the winner, correct?
ALFIE
Only her name.
Alfie walks to Reggie’s computer in a corner of the great
room and types "Julie White" in a search box. Seconds later,
he clicks on a result. Reggie stands and walks toward Alfie.
ALFIE

Reggie watches as a video plays on the screen.

INT. FEMALE VIDEO BLOGGER’S APARTMENT – LONDON – DAY
Punk music plays at low volume in the background as a
popular 20-ish FEMALE VIDEO BLOGGER - pink hair and multiple
piercings on and around her face - wears pajama pants and a
t-shirt while standing in front of her webcam. She's in the
middle of a rant - as if speaking directly to Reggie.
VIDEO BLOGGER
...is wild with rumors, and here's
what I think: you've picked a girl
who looks exactly like your ex!
INT. ANONYMOUS WOMAN’S APARTMENT – LONDON - NIGHT
ANONYMOUS WOMAN types a comment in a discussion forum under
the header, "WHO SHOULD REGGIE PICK?"
ANONYMOUS WOMAN'S COMMENT
Reggie should pick someone based on
her inner beauty, not her looks.
INT. BRITISH ARMY OUTPOST - MIDDLE EAST - DAY
A 30-ish MALE SOLDIER types on a laptop inside a tent.
MALE SOLDIER
Good luck, Reggie!
INT. LIVING ROOM, JULES' APARTMENT - LONDON - NIGHT
Jules sits on her sofa as Marcus walks in from the kitchen.
MARCUS
I think this contest is some kind
of publicity stunt for his company.
JULES
But it says on the website that he
runs an import-export business.
Marcus goes silent.
JULES
I think Mister Oliver simply wants

INT. OFFICE AREA OVERLOOKING FACTORY FLOOR - LONDON - DAY
REGGIE'S MOTHER, a 70-ish blue-blood with silver hair, sips
tea alongside REGGIE'S SECRETARY (50). From their vantage
point just outside the open door leading into his office,
they watch Reggie -- seated in a leather office chair behind
a glass-and-metal desk -- as he monitors data on a wall of
computer screens.
REGGIE'S MOTHER
Reggie spends so much time looking
at those screens. Makes me wonder
if it affects his judgment. Julie

REGGIE'S SECRETARY
And he's not getting any younger.
In an office adjacent Reggie's, two 60-ish SENIOR VICE

INT. REGGIE'S WINDOWLESS HOME THEATER - LONDON - NIGHT
Alfie and Reggie sit side by side in high-end leather
recliners. Pens and clipboards in hand, they are ready to
wade through applications on the big screen. With the press
of a button on his keyboard, Alfie brings up a slide with a
map of the UK. Red dots denote applicants' hometowns.
ALFIE
We had 312 applicants. I took the
liberty of trimming the list of
contenders to 125 by eliminatingthose who failed to provide the
necessary information and by
eliminating those I would not allow
you to pick even if you wanted to.
Without waiting for Reggie to respond, Alfie clicks ahead to
the next slide. It shows the first overview slide which

includes a brief bio as well as links to a full bio, a 500-

The first applicant lives in
Brighton and works as a waitress.
She’s divorced, 48 years old and
has five sons, two of whom are
Royal Marines.
Alfie clicks on the link to the applicant’s full bio, and it
fills the screen. Reggie sees a lot of text and sighs.
REGGIE
Let's watch the videos first. Then,
if necessary, we can read the bios
and essays, but I really want to
wrap this up quickly.
ALFIE
I understand. You make the rules.
Reggie rolls his eyes and returns his focus to the screen.
Alfie plays the first applicant's video. It shows a woman in
a head-and-shoulders shot, the English Channel behind her.
WAITRESS
Hello. My name is Julie White. I’ve
never traveled far from Brighton, but I’m very adventurous and think
I’d make a fine travel companion.
REGGIE
Seems nice and all, but a bit dull.
Alfie shrugs his shoulders and clicks through to the
overview slide of the next applicant.
ALFIE
This one is 24, lives in Bicesterand sells high-end jewelry at a
shop in Bicester Village.
Alfie launches the video, and a tall, dark-haired, CURVY

Alfie exits the home theater as Reggie looks at his printout

coffee.
REGGIE

The screen goes dark, and Alfie rearranges the slides in the
presentation so Reggie can view the finalists' applications.
ALFIE
Okay, your finalists are a pig
farmer, a police officer, a
schoolteacher and an executive
assistant. Now what?
REGGIE
Okay, let's play the videos!
Without a word, Alfie locates the first overview slide -- a
36-year-old PIG FARMER from Northumberland -- and double-
clicks to launch the video. It shows a knockout of a woman
dressed in skimpy farmer clothes and a shovel in her hand as
she leans against a pig enclosure. A pig wallows in mud
behind her.

Reggie cocks his head to one side, but says nothing, and
Alfie advances to the next slide. It shows a fit, semi-
attractive 29-year-old woman dressed in a standard British
POLICE OFFICER uniform as traffic passes on a busy road
behind her. In one hand is a book of blank traffic tickets.
POLICE OFFICER
Instead of forcing me to give you
my tickets, why don't you allow me
to use yours?
Reggie thinks for a few seconds.
REGGIE
I like the whole police officer

Alfie advances to the overview slide of a SCHOOLTEACHER, 38,
and clicks the thumbnail to launch her video.
ALFIE
Here you go, a schoolteacher.
The video begins with a tall, slender woman with strawberry-
blonde hair and a light complexion. She speaks while leaning
against the front edge of a desk in what appears at first to
be an empty classroom. Maps deck the wall behind her. She
begins to speak, and it becomes clear she's not alone.

REGGIE (ON PHONE)
Hi, this is Reggie Oliver. Is this
Julie White?
Jules gasps, and Reggie waits a few seconds before speakingso she can regroup.
REGGIE (ON PHONE)
Shall I take that as a yes?
JULES
Yes, I'm Julie White.
REGGIE (ON PHONE)
Good, because I would like to
invite you to take a trip with me.
Marcus walks into the kitchen as a look of shock and
amazement appears on Jules’ face.
MARCUS
What's wrong, Jules? Who is it?
Jules motions for Marcus to be quiet, then turns and walks
from her kitchen and out through a sliding glass door to a
tiny patio. She closes the door behind her and replies to
Reggie in a whisper that does little to hide her excitement.
JULES
Is it really you?

REGGIE
Yes, it is. I wanted to let you
know I picked you. May I ask why
you're whispering?
JULES (ON PHONE)
Because my boyfriend is here.
EXT. PATIO, JULES' APARTMENT - LONDON - NIGHT
Jules can barely contain her excitement as she stands on her
patio and faces away from the door so Marcus can't read her
lips as she speaks.
REGGIE (ON PHONE)
I see. I'll need you to keep the
news to yourself for a short while
until you hear from me again. Canyou do that?
JULES
Oh, yes! I can do that.
REGGIE (ON PHONE)
It shouldn't be long. We'll talk
again soon. Good night.
JULES
Good night - and thank you!
The call ends, and Jules takes a deep breath before she
opens the door and walks back into her apartment where
Marcus awaits, wide-eyed and curious.
INT. KITCHEN, JULES' APARTMENT - LONDON - NIGHT

JULES
I promised the person who called I
wouldn’t say anything until I
received permission, so please
don't make me break my promise.
Marcus grabs his coat and bag and begins to walk toward the
apartment's front door.
MARCUS
Alright, but this better be good.
JULES
Thanks for being a good sport.
MARCUS
I may be a good sport, but I'm not
a fan of games like this one.
Jules takes several quick steps toward Marcus and kisses him
before he walks out the door. As soon as he's gone, Jules
locks the door, turns around and leans back against the
door. She has a look of nervous excitement on her face.
ONE WEEK LATER
INT. GREAT ROOM, REGGIE’S APARTMENT - LONDON - DAY
Alfie barges through Reggie's elevator doors and arrivesunannounced in Reggie's living room. Smelling something
cooking in the kitchen, he follows his nose and finds Reggie
wearing an apron an standing in front of a steaming pot of
something on the stove.
ALFIE
Ay, Reggie, what's for supper?
Reggie ignores the question.
REGGIE
You haven’t told anyone, right?
Alfie grabs a beer from Reggie's refrigerator.
ALFIE
Only that you've made your choice,
but I didn't give out her name.
(laughing at the end)
