how to apply Applying for a CCS scholarship is easy. Log in to our scholarship portal at www.ccs.academicworks.com. There you can complete our general scholarship application. Once completed, you’ll be entered in our general scholarship pool to be considered for those scholarships open to all CCS students. You’ll also be alerted to additional scholarship opportunities which you may qualify for based on the responses you provided. Many of these opportunities require additional information but have fewer applicants because they have very specific criteria. We encourage you to take the time to apply for all scholarships for which you qualify to increase your chances of receiving an award. Important Things to Know About Scholarships 1. The primary scholarship application period runs from early January until mid-March. Be sure to check the deadlines as the vast majority of scholarships are awarded from these applications. Late applications are not accepted. There are a handful of scholarships which accept applications throughout the year, but most of these have specific criteria for which most students don’t qualify. 2. Scholarships have different definitions of financial need than federal aid. It is important to submit your FAFSA to access loans and grants, but if you don’t qualify for federal aid you may still be eligible for scholarship assistance. Be sure to include your EFA number in your application, but also note any extenuating circumstances in your responses which may limit your ability to pay for your education (parents who claim you as a dependent but aren’t helping you pay for college, loss of job, major medical expenses, travel to and from a rural location, etc). 3. Be sure to complete the application and provide full answers to essay questions. Each year, hundreds of students start their applications but never complete them. Others provide one or two word answers to short essays. Please take the time to provide thorough answers so our panel of education staff and local business leaders will be able to fully understand your circumstances and your story. We are interested in helping you: tell us who you are. 4. Scholarships aren’t all about grades. Does it help your chances to have a 4.0 GPA? Absolutely. But there are many scholarships that look beyond just your grades. Are you active in the community? Are you a single parent raising a family? Are you returning to school to start a new career? Everyone’s situation is unique so tell your story. SCHOLARSHIPS ARE OPEN YEAR-ROUND, BUT THE BEST TIME TO APPLY IS EARLY JANUARY THROUGH MID-MARCH
