Apps Alert No. 7 A different Apps Alert for 10 July 2013

The iTunes store is five-years old on 10 July 2013. It started with 500 apps and now has over 900,000 apps to browse and download. Over the five years, there have been 50 billion downloads. Having said that, the one-year-old Google Android Play store had 48 billion downloads in its first year. I wonder what will happen next?! Just so long as apps are there for use by very special learners, everything is okay!

Free from the iTunes Store (9 July 2013) Popular Apps (Free for a limited time)

Barefoot World Atlas A dazzling interactive globe, it took a long time to download, but was so worth it. Go on a great geographical adventure. Day One (journal/diary) Record everyday moments using photo, place and word with this intuitive journal. Perhaps for a personalised learning journal? How to Cook Everything 2,000 recipes of gourmet quality with a wide range of recipes plus hand drawn 'how to do' sections. How to clean a squid, chop garlic or shred a cabbage, for example. There is a time included with the recipe and you can score the recipe if you like.

Over Make photos stand out with doodles, captions and more ... very easy to use!

Traktor for DJ iPhone (This is an app) mix like a professional, disco rules okay! Browse, load, play, freeze, slice, mash it up....

Popular Games (free for a limited time) Use headphones with all of these for full sound effects - clunk!

I am new to these but am so impressed with the story lines, graphics and sounds, not so impressed with many killings and gore!

Badlands Apple Design award winner. Stunning graphics and terrific sounds, love the thunder. I still haven't killed any clone, will I ever get to level 2? Great for tracking and following a finger.

Infinity Blade 2 Again, ages to download because it is so complex, but worth it. An epic, with amazing graphics. I have my first sword blade but have been demolished at every level. Will I ever see the worker of secrets?

Super Brothers: Sword and Sworcery EP This is very modernistic and cool, which means I cannot understand it at a granny entrance level! Yet I do get the stunning graphics and futuristic settings of the 8 adventures using touch based puzzles. Look! Listen! Tap Tap! Tiny Wings HD Gorgeous, classic game with clear graphics, well worth sharing with others. You have to touch the screen to fold your wings as you scoot over the hills. There is a scoring system but just enjoy the scooting! Where's My Water? A Disney game, so really good graphics and sounds. A simple but challenging game, complete with a funny mascot.
