From Police Chief BillRuttenJust a reminder: Drivers shouldbe aware that the warmer weather

will allow more and more bicy-cles and scooters to be out andabout. Please be aware of thechildren when driving throughthe village. Bikes and scootersare allowed on the sidewalks.Scooters are not allowed on thestreets. Also, the newer motorizedscooters are not allowed on thestreets or sidewalks. Those are al-lowed on private property only.

Parking issues: Recently I had aconversation with a resident onAudubon Rd. It was about park-ing and the difficulty of backingout of their driveway due toneighbors’ vehicles parkednearby. There apparently are carsnear the driveway and across thestreet. The citizen was wonderingif the street could be marked soparking was allowed on only oneside, so traffic would flow and tomake it easier to back out. We dothis during Special Events likethe July 4th Fireworks. This issuewould be the same on otherstreets in that West II subdivision,Hill St., Pinetree Rd. and Green-tree Rd. These streets were engi-neered more narrow than whatstreets are engineered for now. When cars are parked on bothsides of the street the roadway isvery narrow. Before making anordinance change, the VillageTrustees wanted the neighbors tobe aware that they should be cog-nizant of the other cars aroundthem when parking, so they don’tclog the street. The Village wouldlike to leave it the way it is, butwill make a change if parking be-comes a problem.

A remarkable experience:Kohler fifth graders attendTrees for TomorrowBy Courtney Yang

What’s your dream vacation? Is it snorkeling, rock climbing, orhiking? Well, fourteen fifthgraders from Kohler Elementaryrecently had an experience thatmay change your mind!

From February 18-20th, severallucky students attended Trees forTomorrow (TFT), in Eagle River.TFT was founded in 1944 by agroup of Wisconsin paper andelectric utility companies. The in-tent was to reforest northern Wis-consin by giving seedlings tolandowners and educating thepublic about our fragile natural re-sources. Their efforts still carryon today!

When the fifth grade studentsvisited TFT, we engaged in activ-ities pertaining to their missionstatement. Our learning experi-ences included both classroomand “in the field” activities. Theseincluded snowshoe hiking, mak-ing paper, and learning about Wis-consin’s wildlife such as bear, wolves, deer, and raptors. IsabelO’Donnell, a fifth grade student,

said, “My favorite part was build-ing fires outdoors….you had to useteamwork to make sure the firedidn’t go out.”

This trip was made possible bygenerous donations by severallocal individuals. Kohler Elemen-tary hopes to send 14 more fifthgraders in October of next schoolyear instead of the winter. Anyone

interested in donating and makingthis trip a reality for a group ofnext year’s fifth graders shouldcontact Mr. DuMez at (920) 803-7234 [email protected]. Courtney Yang was one of the 14fifth graders who attended TfT thisyear. She is a student in Mrs. Eick-holt’s 4/5 class this year.
