We are excited to welcome you back to campus for Parents Weekend 2019. Thank you for entrusting us with your son’s higher education. We hope that your visit will give your son a much-needed boost that will help him to successfully complete the final weeks of the academic year. As the 12th President of Morehouse, I have had the distinct opportunity of sharing my vision for the College with parents, students, faculty, staff, and alumni on numerous occasions. In some of those speeches, I talked about my search for another “King” among the many Men of Morehouse that I encounter each day — another Martin Luther King Jr. in a community of leaders and high-achievers. It is my belief that in this atmosphere of intellectual and cultural development another “King” will emerge as an inimitable leader willing to stand firm for what he believes in, stand up for that which is moral and just, and stand out from his peers like a trailblazer before his time. I am not sure when or where this student will surface, but I am certain that when he does, his ascendancy will be due in part to the Morehouse faculty who challenged him, the staff who mentored him, the classmates who embraced him, and the alumni who influenced him. But, above all, his success story and that of all future Morehouse College graduates will be the direct result of you, the parents who raised him. The guidance, support, and trust that you provide the Men of Morehouse is to be commended. We are eternally grateful for our partnership with you. As you arrive on campus for Parents Weekend, please take time to enjoy yourselves and the programs that were designed not only to engage and inform you about our growth as an institution, but also to ultimately celebrate you for being an essential part of the Morehouse family. Workshop for Freshman and Sophomores. This session led by Jessica Johnson, Executive Director of the Scholarship Academy, is designed to give you inside tips on how to trim the fat from your budget and build monetary muscle with the help of scholarships, a plan that could keep you fiscally fit through graduation.

“Beyond Commencement: Making the Morehouse Man More Marketable” Walter E. Massey Leadership Center, Room 244

Workshop for Juniors and Seniors. This session, conducted by Bridget Baggett, director of Career Development and Engagement at Morehouse College, is designed to help upperclassmen make lasting and lucrative career and graduate school connections.

“Is there a Doctor In the ‘House?: Your Son and His Health” Don’t miss this pivotal panel discussion featuring health and fitness experts who will share vital statistics impacting college campuses across the country, address topics related to your son’s physical and mental well-being and answer your most pressing health-related questions. The session will be moderated by Joe Carlos ’04, associate director of Alumni Engagement at Morehouse College.

4 P.M. – 5:30 P.M.King Collection Viewing Atlanta University Center’s Robert W. Woodruff Library Exhibition Hall (2nd Floor)

Join Dr. Vicki Crawford, director of the Morehouse College Martin Luther King Jr. Collection, on a guided tour to view some of the personal writings and artifacts of Morehouse alumnus Martin Luther King Jr. The King Collection features more than 10,000 historic items that showcase King’s life and work spanning from 1944 and 1968.A complimentary shuttle will be available for those who would like to participate in this special tour. It will depart from campus every 20 minutes.

It is a pleasure to welcome you to Parents Weekend 2019, a fun and information-filled three days designed to enlighten you about important issues impacting your son; engage you further into the life of the

College; and encourage you to get better acquainted with faculty, staff and other parents with whom you share such a special bond.

From panel discussions addressing your son’s physical and academic well-being, to presentations focusing on financial cures and social media remedies, we hope the schedule of events we have planned for you will be the perfect prescription for a successful Parents Weekend. On or off campus, Morehouse has put together a myriad of opportunities for you to explore the exceptional history of the College, as well as the extraordinary city in which it resides. We hope you take advantage of all that they each have to offer.

This being the first Parents Weekend I have planned as the new director of the program, I am also looking for your candid feedback on the activities you enjoyed the most, workshops you found extremely helpful and those things we can improve upon, as well as any ideas you would like to incorporate into next year’s schedule.

Now that you have arrived on campus, please enjoy the festivities the College has planned for the parents.

On behalf of the Morehouse College Parents Council (MCPC), I invite you to take full advantage of this special time to reconnect with your sons and participate in a host of workshops and activities that the College has planned to make your visit both informative and engaging.

As chair of the Council, I serve in partnership with 12 other parents who are committed to supporting Morehouse’s parent and student programming.

The MCPC was established in 2010 to foster a partnership between the College and parents in order to enhance the undergraduate experience for Morehouse College students and their parents. The Council members also assist in furthering the goals of the College and its students through college development and fundraising efforts. All Morehouse parents are automatically members of MCPC.

It’s our hope you’ll find being a Morehouse parent special and rewarding. Join us in supporting this spectacular college and assist us in our work to help Morehouse continue on its successful path.

You’ll also learn about MCPC’s regional accomplishments in 2018-19 and find out how you can get involved in your region. It will feature hors d’oeuvres, decadent desserts, other culinary delights, an open beer and wine bar, plus entertainment and exclusive works of art. It is truly the piece de resistance of Parent’s Weekend! The attire is Cosmopolitan Chic and admission is included in your individual registration packet. Please present your ticket/credentials for entry.
