FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK
On yesterday our ladies were blessed by spiritual edification and enlightenment at their annual WORDshop…W.E.B.: Women Escaping Boundaries. We thank each of you for your patience and the support shown as we had this event even while preparing to serve the family of the Late Peggy Tapp. Sister Peggy owned the Chicken Hut…and there were countless meals and events that she took care of within this Church….and she was always ready to send a plate of something good to this Pastor!
I ask that all of us make sure we come out Wednesday and Thursday this week to celebrate with the Women of First Calvary at our returning Women’s Revival with Minister Chaurita Dawson Herring and Minister Phyllis Arrington McGhee. Okay sisters, plan to have your lunch hour on Friday at 12:00 noon, where our very own Minister Torie Forte will be preaching at the Hour of Power. Then, on next Sunday we will celebrate our Celebration of Womanhood Sunday with Sister Judith Davis sharing and on April 29th, we will have the Ordination Service of our Associate Minister Vanessa Chalk. I want to take this time to once again thank our Womanhood Committee for the work they have done this year. Like all other years, it’s been really exciting and blessed.
Today, after the 10:45 a.m. service, we will have our New Disciples Fellowship and Ministry Fair. We invite all of our New Disciples that have united with First Calvary since November 2017 to join us in the Fellowship Hall for this event. This will be a great opportunity for you to find out more about our ministries and how you can become involved. It is also open to any of our members that have never attended this type of event….so come on in! Special thanks to our Hospitality Ministry for their organization of today’s Fellowship.
Finally, I would like to share the following encouragement to the women….men…and youth of our Church Body. We find so many uplifting stories of women in the Bible. I encourage each of us to spend the remainder of this month….when we are not reading Genesis for Bible Study …to take some time and read these stories of faith. From the courage of Queen Esther…to the obedience of Ruth and Naomi…to the strength of Deborah…to the love of sisters Mary and Martha…to the journey of Mary, the Mother of Jesus….there are numerous examples of encouragement that we can apply to our lives…female and male. These stories remind us of the importance of a true relationship with our Lord and Savior….and that we should truly seek “Transforming Discipleship” and to be “Changed Into God’s Glorious Image””…and let’s keep on being AN EXCITING CHURCH EXCITED ABOUT ITS MISSION!
THE DEACON’S MESSAGE
God, is it true? I find it hard to believe at times, so tell me again, that there is nothing that can come between you and me. Sometimes my surroundings and circumstances threaten to dislodge me from your grasp. Time after time your love holds me firmly in place. When I think about it, the only way I could fall is to loosen my grip or turn my face from you. God, I may not say it often, but I need you. I find great comfort when you tell me again through your word that absolutely nothing will separate you from me. On bent knees and with clasped hands, I cry out to you, and you hear me. In your word I find solace as I hear you speak to me. I too then am convinced like Paul was in Romans 8:38, NLT. And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today or tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. Yes God, I find it to be true. Thank you for reminding me that nothing can come between you and me.
