About mindfulness and the course.
Have you ever noticed that when you are doing things your thoughts are miles away? For instance you might be driving to work thinking about the day ahead and worrying about what might be going to happen while paying very little direct attention to the actual journey. Most of us spend a good deal of our time thinking about what might happen or what has happened and miss what is actually happening here and now. Being in mindful mode allows us to perceive thoughts, physical sensations, emotions at the moment in which they happen without reacting in an automatic or habitual way. Experiences are less likely to overwhelm us and we can remain steady through life’s ups and downs.
This course will help you to learn a set of simple but powerful practices including meditation that you can incorporate into your daily life to help break the cycle of stress, unhappiness and exhaustion and promote a sense of peace and happiness. There is large and growing body of scientific evidence about the effectiveness of mindfulness for managing stress, anxiety, pain and illness amongst other things.
How is Mindfulness helpful in managing stress? By connecting with the present moment, calmly observing our thoughts, feelings and sensations so as to become more aware of them, we can become better able to manage them. There is a considerable amount of research about mindfulness and that indicates that as little as 15-‐20 minutes meditation a day can have a significant effect on our ability to cope with stress, pain, anxiety and depression.
