DISCLAIMER
• This presentation is for educational purposes only and should not be considered medical advisement. For
medical advisement consult a primary care physician.
• This talk includes information from Traditional Chinese Medicine, so if you are not an Acupuncturist or
Massage Therapist with Chinese Medicine training, there may be some terms and references that are
unfamiliar to you. Organ name references (Liver, Kidney, Spleen) do not, in all cases, refer to the actual
organ, but to the meridian and functions associated with that organ.
• This presentation serves only as an introduction to the subject of Essential Oils in Chinese Medicine for
immune health. It should not be construed as a comprehensive training which would include more details
regarding applications and cautions.
ABOUT PETER HOLMES Peter is an English-trained medical herbalist, essential oil therapist and practitioner of Chinese
medicine with over 35 years' experience of using herbal and essential oil medicines in clinical
practice. His extensive training included studies with Oriental Medicine doctors Ted Kaptchuk and
Giovanni Maciocia; medical herbalist and pharmacist Henri Verdier in Paris, France; medical herbalist
Christopher Hedley in London, England; and Chinese medicine sinologist Elisabeth Roche-Vallee in
Paris, France. Peter brings to his courses and seminars over 35 years of study, clinical practice and
teaching experience with Western herbs, Chinese herbs and essential oils. He has explored and
developed both the physiological and psychological aspects of using essential oils in treatment. He
has specifically pioneered their clinical use with acupuncture and bodywork since 1982 and in 2011
co-founded Aroma Acupoint Therapy. Peter is the author of several acclaimed textbooks on herbal
and essential oil medicine: Aromatica Vols. 1 & 2, Clinical Aromatherapy, The Energetics of Western
Herbs Vols. 1 & 2, Jade Remedies Vols. 1 & 2, and The TCM Materia Medica Clinical Reference & Study

POST-WEBINAR ANSWERS TO QUESTIONS
• Can we use TeaTree in place of Cajeput or Niaouli?
No, it’s not in the same category. TeaTree is also a better antibacterial than anti-viral.
• Do you need a carrier oil when applying essential oils topically?
Depends on the essential oils. Some oils yes, others no ...
• What do you think is best to diffuse in clinic in general for immunity (since different patients
have different patterns)?
I suggest a blend of 2 parts Cajeput and 1part Bergamot, OR those two + 1 part Lavender
(for extra calming).
• Do the peel oils (like Mandarin) go rancid if kept in warm environment?
No, they just oxidize more quickly. Not rancid.
MORE POST-WEBINAR ANSWERS TO QUESTIONS
• Can you build a tolerance to essential oils so they become less effective over time and if so, is
it important to switch them up periodically?
In general that’s a good idea, even though it’s the body’s response that may weaken, not the
oil itself.
• Could Cedarwood be used in the pungent, woody category for long term immune health?
Not really. Atlas cedarwood is sweet-woody; it doesn’t affect the Kidney Jing like the others.
• If oils are not guaranteed pure/edible are they safe to inhale?
Yes and no, it depends on the oils.
• If we want to read Peter’s books which is the best to start with?
Aromatica 1 & 2 for the oils. Energetics 1 & 2 for the Western herbs
MORE POST-WEBINAR ANSWERS TO QUESTIONS
• Where can I find high quality oils?
Please note that this webinar is not for the purpose of promoting products, but Peter’s
company, Snow Lotus, does include essential oils information and purchase opportunities.
