Hello and welcome to Spring
I would like to personally THANK all of our Members that have vol-unteered their time helping and visiting the American Veteran Travel-ing Tribute (AVTT). The Vietnam Memorial Traveling Wall is an 80% size replica standing over 8’ tall and over 370 feet long. Our Members escorted the wall to Las Vegas Harley-Davidson, help set it up, rode in the Parade of Honor and have continued to support this month long event. As a Veteran again I thank YOU and ALL Our Veterans of other wars and conflicts!

Editor’s Note
Rita’s Tip When you jump on your bike for a ride around town or out of town do you know where your going? With the group or without you should have the address written down of your destina-tion and a map of the area. If for some reason you are separated from your group you’ll be glad to have this infor-mation. Don’t rely on someone else. Ride your own ride.
Welcome to April. Hope your ready for a great Spring. The riding should be good and I look forward to hearing about your adventures. I think the editing is going pretty well. I’m not very good with this computer stuff, so if anyone sees something I can do better drop me an e-mail or catch me on a ride I would love the input. I recently had the pleasure of riding with a couple of Great Gals and good friends from the group. We went out the 15 to the 93 and took the 168 into Moapa\Glendale. It’s a nice little ride and they have a diner in Glendale if you care to have a bite to eat.
Thanks to Laurie and Donna for the relaxing Friday. Lots of us have different days off, so if you are looking for someone to ride with or other ideas about where to have a great day ride get on the web site ask what’s going on when there aren’t group rides on your day off. Someone is probably going on a ride and would be happy to have you along. The web site is a won-derful thing if you use it. Www.hog.lvhd.com
We had a great ride to Death Valley and to the top of Dante’s Peak. I have never been there and it was quite a view. I recommend going there sometime and TAKE YOUR CAMERA. Though I wouldn’t do it in the heat of summer. Thank you to our members for their understanding when they pulled the “Bait and Switch” on us. Our Activities team did a great job in setting this up and the brunch was nice. However, the staff should have explained why they switched us from one location to another and failed to mention the significant increase in our food cost. As with every newsletter… at least so far; a little Chapter business; you can check your own Biker Reward points and cash balance at www.riderrewardsclub.com. It DOES NOT give you the break down between purchases and participation. If you would like to receive an update when participation points have been added, YOU must provide the Dealership your email address. We are not authorized to do that. Your Primary Officers and Board of Directors had POT during March… NO not that kind, Primary Officer Training by Harley-Davidson & National H.O.G. It was two full days of seminars with HD Staff and 854 H.O.G. Officers from around the World. We are proud to say Our Chapter sticks out as one of the best. But that is not to say we didn’t learn quite a bit of new fun ideas and some business needs too. We look forward to seeing you at one of Your Chapter events. Ride Safe, Have Fun & Be Prepared to Ride

Friendly Reminder... Be sure to visit our online PHOTO GALLERY at http://snhoglv.com/gallery Photographs are such a great way to remember events in our lives. Our SNHOG Online Photo Gallery is also a great way to share the fun we have as a chapter with friends, family and anyone who is skeptical about joining our chapter. All you have to do is browse the gallery for a few minutes and anyone will quickly realize we ride and have fun all year round!
Although Kenn Wynn, Mark Mogavero and myself are the "photographers" for the chapter, we are obviously not the only ones who take pictures at our events. If you have photos you'd like to submit, please send them to [email protected] . Be sure to include the date and Event the photos were taken and any other description you'd like included. I'll also be happy to post your name crediting you with the photo's you've taken. Thanks so much, Donna *** Note: If you prefer not to have your photo on the website, request a photo be removed or photo infor-mation updated, please let me know I'll make the changes as soon as possible. You must mention the al-bum name and placement number of the photo in question.

San Diego CA. Feb. 17-19 2007
Sunday’s Day Trip
Our day started with Breakfast at the locally famous Perry’s Cafe, which was recommended by John & Cheryl. This café has been voted as one of the best breakfast joints in San Diego and judging by the wait to get seated, it is no secret to the locals. Over a hearty breakfast we planned out our trip for the day which was roughly based upon a recent article published in the February issue of the Friction Zone. After finalizing our planned route we jumped on our Harley’s and headed off for our days adventure. From interstate 5 south, we took the 94 exit heading east and followed it to Lemon Grove where it turned into a two lane rode heading east. Once we got on the two lane road the traffic thinned out considerably and the ride became more interesting. We continued to follow 94 through Jamul, Dulzura, Potrero and then into Campo where we decided to stop and check out the Southwest Railway Museum and stretch our legs. We dis-covered that the Museum was actually a train ride which we did not have time to take, maybe next time. After checking out the little gift shop, buying some patches we hopped on our bikes and continued on. We continued on highway 94 until we picked up old highway 80 just before a little town called Manza-nita. Since our destination for the day was the Desert View Tower, which Larry Lewis. had found out about scouring the internet, we continued on old highway 80 through Jacamba. Jacamba is very close to the Mexican border and there was one section of the road where we could actually see the fence separating Mexico and the US. The Border Patrol are quite active all along highway 94 and we came across several places where they where hard at work. Continuing east on old Highway 80 we started looking for the Desert View Tower which we knew was on In Ko Pah Park Road, just off Interstate 8. So we get onto Interstate 8 and realized right away, at least Johni and Cheryl did, that we should not have. We ended up having to ride about 10 miles before we could find a place to turn around and backtrack to our destination. The Desert View Tower is a man-made rock tower that overlooks the desert of the California /Mexico borders, surrounded by rock/boulder caves. In our leathers and boots, we explored, climbing on boulders, crawling though small caves and checking out rock animal sculp-tures, petting their dogs and of course Johni had to buy another rock to haul around.
After visiting the tower we stopped for gas in Boulevard and to our surprise we saw a beautiful horse running loose in the street. We mentioned our concern to a local that John described as a “Chris Christopher-son look-a-like” and he replied, “If we can catch him, he’s ours.” After plotting our cowboy skills, we realized we had no room for a horse (and, a good laugh when the horse ran back into it’s own stall), so we continued our ride, taking old highway 80 to Jupatal Valley Rd and then Lyons Valley Road. Lyons Valley Road is a great motorcycle rode as it contains many very tight curves, little traffic and the road surface was great. It also seems to be very popular with the sport bike crowd. We traveled over some beautiful country and among other great sights, riding by the mailbox motorcycle that was shown in the Friction Zone article, to highway 94 - and then backtracking to the motel. We ended our day with dinner at the “Rockin Baja Lobster” in Old Town, celebrating John’s Birthday, and reflecting on a good day’s ride.

Clar Our Treasurer
Our Chapter Director Kevin Pachtinger opened the meeting with a greeting to all and had everyone greet the person next to them. Kevin then explained the difference between HOG and SNHOG and our ropes to new members. A great big Thank You went to all who participated in “The Wall” escort, set up and Parade of Honor by Kevin and Dealer Rep. Tom Plehn. Assistant Directors Rex and Karen introduced all of the new members and pre-sented them with new member packets. Karen then talked about the Nevada Childhood Cancer Foundation. We as a chapter are collecting donations of juice boxes, snacks and small toys for the children who are receiving treatment at the center. We will have a breakfast ride sometime in late June to deliver these items. More information to follow. If you have questions please see Karen or send her an e-mail. Our chapter Treasurer Clar gave the treasures report. Chapter Secretary\ Membership Officer Leslie and Kevin explained about the different Biker Rewards cards and how points are earned. Please remember it takes at least 6 to 8 weeks to receive your Biker Re-wards card from Daytona Beach. This is your chapter membership card. Activities Officer Lana and Michele gave an overview of all the upcoming rides and events for the chap-ter. Kevin Thanked everyone for the great turn outs we are having at our Meet-N-Eats. Lead Road Captain Jim Brown talked about some of the emergency items everyone should carry on their bikes, Such as duct tape and zip ties. Questions were asked for and answered and we adjourned for cake and fellowship. Leslie Lambeth Secretary\Membership

Roadrunner Meet-N-Eat
From the Road Captains... P A G E 7
Hi HOG Riders, It time to get to know another fellow member and one of your assistant lead Road Captain for this year, my name is Bruce Thompson. You may recognize me while on a ride this year by the yellow and red rope on my left arm along with the 2007 Fire Red/Black Pearl Ultra Classic. I have been a Road Captain since 2005 and a member of this great club since 2003. I try to ride throughout the year as much as possible but work keeps getting in the way, I work for the Boe-ing company and manage a training facility on Nellis AFB for the F22 Fighter as a civilian contractor to the Air Force, but I have managed to get a 125,000 mile patch from the HOG mileage program and this year plan to start the ABC’s of Touring, both are free patches so you can’t bet that! I compete in the Top Gun and have completed Advance Rider’s skills program, which I highly recommend both for everyone. Back to the club, this year I plan on making maps of the routes that we take and also changing the routes from the past rides to include more back roads and scenic views. Our last month Out-of-Towner was to be an example of that and was a trip back to home for me to somewhat sunny San Diego, it was actually a great 3 day trip. We took I15 to Baker and then took back roads to 29 Palms, Palm Springs and on to Anza, CA. The roads were a little rough through the Mojave National Preserve but once we past Palm Springs the roads were what motorcycles are made for - tight turning 2nd-3rd gear twisties. The group was great and had big smiles at the next gas stop. The original plans were to continue on high-way 371 to Warner Springs and Julian (for pie) but after a quick talk with the group we decided that it was getting long in the day so we turned onto highway 79 at Aguanga and hopped back on to I15 at Temecula, an hour and a half later we were at the hotel. The Director and Activities Officer did an outstanding job at locating and reserving seating for all of us at the “Shades Oceanfront Bistro” restaurant. After a long day in the saddle it was so nice to sit out on the deck straight across from the ocean, several members described pass experiences and adventures other told a few jokes we all laughed so much that I though someone from the restaurant would say something but when the waitress joins in you know everything is OK. Wake-up, it’s 5:00 in the morning and we are preparing for day 2. We had 3 different trips planned for the day, the Coast, the Mountains, and the group lead ride that did both with a stop at Mt Palomar Observatory. The return from San Diego was uneventful except that it rained about 60% of the time. I felt very fortunate to spend 935 miles with 24 bikes and 40 friends. That was a lot about me now let’s talk about you, I want you to participate in each Meet-n-Greet, Meet-n-Eat, in town/out-of-town rides, Top Gun, and Dealer events – every chance that we have to ride together I want you there, and the Road Captains will be there to help make your ride as enjoyable and safe as possible. I forgot to mention that I have an Iron Butt, so if you want to know more about that or need a map for the current trip please come over and meet me,
Bruce RC Ducky

Activities Officer Lana
P A G E 9
2007 ASSISTANT ACTIVITES OFFICER When I volunteered for this position, I have to admit I wasn’t totally aware of just what I was getting myself into. I knew that it would be somewhat of a challenge to help arrange activities for the Chapter, while working a very busy full time job. But I was willing to jump in with both feet, and forge ahead. To all of the members, THANK YOU! You have all been extremely supportive of Lana and I, and I hope that we are really helping to make the Chapter fun. We have found that no matter how much planning, advanced notice, and phone calls we may make……not everything goes according to plan once we reach a destination. Ok, so sometimes it isn’t even close. But everyone has been so great when our plans just don’t seem to work out. It shows just how adaptable our members really are….a huge tribute to you all. I have enjoyed meeting both new and old members I’ve spoken with, and look forward to getting to know more of you. As the year unfolds, the Chapter has so many “adventures” planned. There are (of course) the rides, and the many Meet-N-Eats, Meet-N-Greets…and a few more things thrown in the mix. Though we may not always have things go ‘as planned’, we are still having a great time! Michele Klimke Assistant Activities Officer

Really Important Business Directory Update You’ll find the latest copy for 2007 of our Business Directory in your Silver Eagle News envelope. We’d sure like to see more of you who have business or services advertise in the Silver Eagle News. It happens to be the least expensive way known to man to get your business information out to more than 1,000 folks each month!! (And when I say more, I really mean MORE!! If you look at the Business Directory, you’ll notice that it takes 10 to 12 ads to fill a page...so we would really like to see at least 10 to 12...or 20 to 24 more business cards to completely fill those pages!!) If you would like to advertise, the rates are as follows: $30 for 3 months (3 months is the minimum); $50 for 6 months; and $90 for 12 months. Call Clar (896-9431) to secure a spot, and send two busi-ness cards and a check to the Chapter PO Box listed on the back of this newsletter to Clar Larson’s attention.

Remember All Rides Are Alcohol Free
As a Reminder... When you get around to sewing on your Chap-ter patches (see the back page of the Silver Ea-gle News for sizes and prices from the SN H.O.G. “Store”)...remember that all three patches (your central H.O.G. patch and SN Chapter and Las Vegas rockers SHOULD BE TOUCHING)...There’s a reason...it’s to distin-guish our patch from the “three-patch” (or 1% MCs)...and to abide by H.O.G. regulations for displaying your patch...wear it proudly...and correctly!!

San Diego Saturday Mountain To Sea Ride We ran out of time on the San Diego ride leaving Twenty Nine Palms so we did not get to go through the curvy mountain road part as planned. But no worries! For those of you who like to drag a peg now and then we had Saturday’s official ride within a ride to the mountains and back to the sea. Around 8:00 AM eight bikes set out for Mt. Palomar via Hwy 67 to Ramona where we actually sat at the gas pumps but for some unknown reason we decided to leave and fill up “later”. So on we went truly enjoying the balmy weather and beautiful scenery. We followed our route turning off onto Hwy 79. After about an hour and an extraordinary amount of U-turns we zeroed in on the apparently illu-sive county road S6. First we had lots of practice on U-turns now we got to have mountain road practice on this
exquisite 15 mile perfectly banked very curvy road up to Mt Palomar. It was a blast dodg-ing all those crotch rockets and such and of course the views were great. At the summit the 1929 telescope was being refurbished but the building and displays within were very infor-mative and showed how truly important this observatory has been through the years. I learned what a Quasar is but of course have by now forgotten it. But we learned something else and again got lots of practice. It’s called gas siphoning! Yep, there were a few of us on fumes. Those with gas left saved the day. After the great gas exchange we set out downhill back to Hwy 79 and on down to the pier at Oceanside. It was nippy and we had to wait a while but everyone enjoyed their hamburger and shake. Yes-sir-ree…even the parking tickets we found on our bikes (Oceanside does not like multiple vehicles in one parking space!) did not ruin our beautiful eventful day of riding. We were safe and we had lots of laughs. Ride on, Laurie
