Spring has finally arrived after another cold and snowy Wisconsin winter. As the season changes, we also have great changes in store at our office with new staff members and an exciting move to our new facility.

Amanda, our newest aesthetician, joined us in March. She has over five years of aesthetics experience and her presence will allow us to accommodate more patients with the latest, most effective skin care treatments. Many of you have probably already spoken with or met Jean Stanley, our newest guest relations representative. Jean has over twenty years of experience in the medical and beauty industries, and her warm and comforting personality will surely brighten your day.

As the construction of our new office building draws to a close, I have the distinct pleasure of announcing the opening of Bonness Cosmetic Surgery and Spa Vita. While we continue to grow and change, our commitment to patient care continues to be our highest priority. More than ever, my staff and I are committed to taking care of our patients’ needs first, last, and always.

And now the time has finally come! Our beautiful new facility will be complete and open for business in early May 2010. Dr. Bonness is thrilled to invite you to the new building and introduce you to this exciting new phase for her practice.

Sunshine Comes and Goes, but the Sun Spots Can Last Forever!Lingering discoloration. New brown spots. Most of us have some type of skin discoloration or spots, but are they freckles, sun spots, age spots, or scars? What causes them?

When our skin is exposed to the sun’s rays a large amount of melanin is produced leading to darker pigmentation in the skin. In most cases the darker color eventually fades, but when the skin cells are damaged the skin can become permanently discolored. This is called hyperpigmentation, and getting rid of it requires professional treatment.

tyPES of hyPERPigMEntation Melasma usually appears as large dark patches on the sides of the face, forehead, upper lip, chin, and sides of the neck. It is often hard to correct because it is hormone related.

» Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) are brown spots that linger after acne breakouts or injury to the skin. The more inflammation that is associated with a breakout, the darker these spots will be. PIH scars can take weeks to fade.

» Freckles are typically clusters of small brown, red, or tan spots. They are a sign of sun damage that get darker in the summer and fade in the winter. Freckles are more common in those with fair skin, red hair, and light-colored eyes.

» Sun spots are isolated areas of discoloration that appear from prolonged sun exposure. They are caused by increased levels of melanin and occur in the deeper layers of the skin.
