Clark County 4-H Leaders Federation Meeting Minutes March 25, 2013

* Call to Order: The meeting of the Clark County 4-H Leaders Federation was called to order by Barb Finkelson on March 25, 2013, at 7:45 p.m. at Loyal City Hall. * Present: Barb Finkelson, Sara Gronski, Joan Buchholz, Marla Lampi, Susan Stiemann, Aarica Humke, Nathan Stiemann and Deb Krultz. A quorum was not present. * Minutes: Motion to approve the February minutes as written by Nathan Stiemann, second by Susan Stiemann. Motion carried. * Treasurer’s Report: The treasurer’s report was presented and discussed. Motion to accept treasurer’s report as presented by Aairica Humke, second by Nathan Stiemann. Motion carried. * Old Business: – Plat Book: Discussed the 2014 plat book. Sales are going well. Leaders and members are to continue selling ads. Ads are to be in by the first part of April. – Behavior Expectation Agreement for Members: Sara Gronski presented this to the Fair Board and they liked it. The Fair Board will be using it for all fair participants. It will be added to the Fair Book and will be included on the Fair Entry Form. – Rural Safety Day: Sara Gronski has all of the volunteers set up and materials completed. This will be on May 1 at the County Fair Grounds for third graders. – Volleyball: The meeting had good attendance. All participating clubs had a member attend. There were good ideas shared. Just enough refs and supervisors have signed up, so a few more could sign up for substitutes. * New Business: – Funding request from Reseburg Ramblers to sponsor annual dance. Discussion took place. Tabled due to no quor-um. – Funding request for trip. Discussion took place. Tabled due to no quorum. – Clover Patch Kids requested funding for Rabbit Fun Day Workshop on April 21. The Club Trip was fun for everyone, even the adults. Thank you to the Bogseth family for

planning the trip. There is a Build a Home being built in our town. The town is looking for donations and people who will help build the Build a Home house. Construction starts May 1st

Lucky Clovers / March / Rachel Stiemann Awards from the Drama Festival were handed out. Received a thank you card from the Clark County Veterans Clinic for the valentines that the club made for them. Discussion was held on a possible club outing, and it was decided to go roller skating.

Pledges led by Matthew Fischer and Amelia Pet-ke. T-shirt design was discussed and approved. Help is needed for Rabbit Fun Day Members made pots for upcoming plant sale Next Meeting is April 13, 10 a.m. Bring dish to pass. Central WI Cat Show - Excellent CAT

PROJECT LEARNING EXPERIENCE

The Central Wisconsin Cat Club is proud to announce their upcoming 24th Annual Pure-bred & Household Pet Spring Cat Show. The show will be held on May 18 & 19, 2013 at Faith Christian Academy School Gym (Formerly St. Matthew's School), 225 S. 28th. Ave., Wausau, WI 54401.

Admission will be $3.00 for adults and $2.00 for children. The show is open to the public from 9 am to 3:30 pm both days. Special group rates to 4-H Clubs. At recent shows, as many as 155 cats and kittens have entered. As many as 22 dif-different breeds of cats shown. So come with your questions about which breed of cat you like most or which breed might be best for you and/or your family or to learn more about showing cats.

2013 Clark County Livestock Sale Scholarship Application

Three $200 scholarships will be awarded in 2013. Livestock Sale Committee will decide how many scholarships will be awarded each year. Qualifications:

Applicant must have participated in Clark County 4-H/FFA Livestock Sale program a minimum of two years

Must be a senior in high school or freshman in

college/tech. Two recommendations required – not from family member.

Applications must be submitted by April 15, 2013

2013 Shayr-A-Heifer Program Wisconsin Ayrshire Breeders Association (WABA) are now accepting applications for its 2013 Shayr-A-Heifer Program. The Shayr-A-Heifer program offers the qualifying Junior member the opportunity to work with a Registered Ayrshire as their project animal. Ownership of the animal will be on a 50/50 basis between the Junior member and WABA. The contract lasts for two years at which time the Junior member has the option of purchasing the heifer (original purchase price plus 25%) or selling her on the 2015 WABA Spring Sale for 50% of the proceeds.

Deadline for application is April 8, 2013

Saturday, May 11 Clark County Fairgrounds, Neillsville 7:30—11:00 a.m.

This event is open to the public and admission is free. They will also be on hand to an-swer any gardening questions you may have. A 4-H craft workshop will also be held on the same day for youth Kindergarten through 6th grade from 9:00—10:30 a.m. (participants do not have to be in 4-H)

This year participants will be making kid friendly bird feeders.

Cost of the workshop is $5.00 per youth and includes all materials. Youth must pre-register and pay in advance. Please complete the registration form and return by April 27. The workshop is limited to the first 15 paid participants.

4-H SUMMER CAMP JULY 17—20

UPHAM WOODS, WISCONSIN DELLS The days are getting longer and we are making plans for 4-H Summer Camp.

Base Camp is open to all Clark County 4-H members in 4th—7th grade. Outpost Adventure Camp is designed for members in 8th—9th grade (limited to 16)

Some of the activities planned for Base Camp include: Swimming, Arts and Crafts, Campfire Singing/Skits, Outdoor Activities, and more! Participation fee is $65 per youth and will include food, lodging, transportation, camp T-shirt, and all arts and crafts materials. Space is limited for both camps—be sure to register early. Openings will be filled on first come / first paid basis so register early. 4-H youth interested in the summer camp program should complete the registration form which is available on-line at: http://clark.uwex.edu/4-h-youth-development/registration-for-events-and-activities/. 4-H Junior Camp

Youth in grades 2-3 in 2012-2013

Experience a one day/night (Tuesday, June 18th-Wednesday the 19th) camp schedule with activities such as

hiking, campfires, astronomy, crafts, nature activities with Beaver Creek staff and MORE!

Junior Camp is limited to 10 youth in 2nd-3rd grade from Clark County. This specific camp is a joint

program between Clark and Eau Claire Counties.

The COST for registrations received by May 20th is $45.

You must provide your own transportation (carpooling encouraged). Campers should arrive between

12:45—1:00 p.m. on June 18. Campers may be picked up between 3:00—3:15 p.m. on June 19.

If you would like to attend Junior Camp please complete the information below and return to the

UW-Extension Office by May 20.

Clark County Horse Project Members, your RAFFLE TICKETS are ready to be picked-up and sold. As last years' arrangement was such a success ~ we will be using the same plan. Get your $100 worth of raffle tickets from Missy Stockheimer and sell, sell, sell. All of your sales goes towards your $100 registration fee for Horse Camp. SADDLE & SIRLOIN CLUB OFFERS UP TO FIVE $100 AWARDS FOR BEGINNING

4-H OR FFA SWINE PROJECT MEMBERS The University of Wisconsin-Madison Saddle & Sirloin Club is announcing the annual Saddle and Sirloin Club Swine Project Awards. Up to five awards of $100 each will be awarded to first or second year swine project members. The Swine Project Awards were introduced to help beginning 4-H or FFA members get started in the swine industry. To be eligible, an applicant must be a first or second year swine project member, 9-18 years old, and a Wisconsin resident. The completed application is due postmarked on or before Wednesday, April 24, 2013. Applications must be submitted by mail; no applications submitted via email will be accepted. The awards may be used for any expenses related to the recipient‘s swine project including the cost of pigs, feed, supplies, equipment, and facility maintenance. A member of the Saddle and Sirloin Club may contact the winners to monitor the progress of their swine projects. Winners may also be asked to supply a photo of themselves and their pigs for the Saddle & Sirloin Club‘s Annual Scrapbook. The Saddle & Sirloin Club is comprised of University of Wisconsin-Madison students interested in the livestock industry. The club serves to provide leadership and learning experiences for these students. The club's main activities include sponsoring a variety of livestock shows, including the Badger Kick-Off Classic Steer and Heifer Show, The Badger Bonanza Lamb Show, Bucky's Spectacular Swine Show, the Little International Horse Show, and the Kickin' Up Dust Speed Show. The group also sponsors a national meat animal evaluation contest and the Club 101 Livestock Show for college students as well as service activities. Proceeds from Saddle & Sirloin activities are used for member scholarships, travel grants, and to fund other club activities.
