The Roosevelt County Cham- ber of Commerce will hold its next Chamber Luncheon on Thursday, April 14 at the Yam Theatre, 219 S. Main. Special guest speakers will include area state legislators, who will report on the activities of the recent 30-day session in Santa Fe. They’ll also be availa- ble for a brief question and an- swer session during the lunch- eon. Legislators invited to attend include Sen. Stuart Ingle, Rep. Dennis Roch, Rep. George Dodge and Rep. Bob Wooley. The Chamber made special efforts to keep its members in- formed of bills that might affect business and this area in particu- lar, said Chamber Executive Director Karl Terry. He added that the luncheon will give eve- ryone an opportunity to find out the end result of the session. Advance reservation is urged, according to Terry. Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door. They can be purchased online at portales.com by click- ing on the calendar item for the Chamber. Though, she’s been in Portales for a short time she has quickly become an active volun- teer. Employed by Portales MainStreet, she has volunteered extra hours for that organization, including soliciting silent auction items for the Red Velvet Affair and Crabfest. She also or- chestrated a donation of bread to the Portales Community Services Center and flowers to Heartland Continuing Care Center and the CSC and volunteered at Ag Expo. She is active as an Ambassador and as a Pink Lady with the RGH Ladies Auxiliary. She recently began volun- teering with the Pregnancy Resource Center in Portales. Seminars target online marketing for businesses The Small Business Develop- ment Center in Clovis, Portales MainStreet and the Roosevelt County Chamber of Commerce have joined together to bring a nationally acclaimed expert in online marketing to Portales for April 5 workshop entitled “How To Turn Facebook Likes Into Customers.” Eric Spellman, president and founder, Spellman & Associates of Amarillo will lead the work- shop from 2-5 p.m. April 5 at the Yam Theatre, 219 S. Main. Spellman is a speaker at na- tional technology conferences across the country. His unique style appeals to all levels of audi- ences. He is often hired to con- vey technically challenging top- ics to non-technical audiences and labelled a “Technology Evangelist.” While there is no fee, at- tendees must register in advance by 3 p.m. April 4 as space is limited. The Portales Military Affairs Committee and the Roosevelt County Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the annual Cannon Appreciation Day in Portales April 30 from 3:30-7 p.m. The event will be held north of Greyhound Arena and will feature a friendly mud volleyball tournament. Competition is ex- pected between Portales teams and Cannon teams. The day will also feature mu- sic and other entertainment, as well as hamburgers, hot dogs and soft drinks. Bouncy houses, henna tattoos and other games will be available for kids. The afternoon event, spon- sored by Alta Terra, Frost Mort- gage and Buena Vista Realty, is free and open to all active duty personnel and their families.
