“I thank my God every time I remember you, constantly praying with joy in every one ofmy prayers for all of you, because of your sharing in the gospel from the first day until

now. I am confident of this, that the one who began a good work among you will bring itto completion by the day of Jesus Christ.” Philippians 1:3-6

As we have progressed through Lent and Easter, I have been trying not to think about the rapidlyapproaching date of April 3, which will be my last day in ministry among you. It makes me sad toleave you, and a big part of me wants to continue being a part of all the things that God will beingdoing through you in the months and years ahead. What we all prayed for, almost eleven yearsago, has been granted: we have had a loving and productive relationship as pastor and congrega-tion. Yet every time Amanda and I circle back and reconsider our decision to move to Birming-ham to be of greater support to my father, we know we are doing the right thing. And all of you

have been extremely gracious in acknowledging the same. And I believe God has blessed the de-cision, too, by offering the possibility of continued ministry for me in Birmingham.

While up until now I have tried not to dwell on the fact of our departure, it now is time to letthose feelings loose. Beyond the broadest outlines, I have no idea what you have planned forApril 3; but I am so grateful that you have provided an opportunity to celebrate together whatGod has enabled us to do together. We need that time, officially, to say goodbye to each other.Ideally, I would sit down with each of you and reflect on the time and experiences we have hadtogether; but of course that is not practically possible. So it is good to have this time when wecan have those conversations collectively.

You will always be in my heart. Thank you for more than a decade of happy ministry. Godspeedin your new endeavors!
