EQAO – BOWMORE’S GAME PLAN!
May 25th, may 26th & May 27th
On March 22th the Grade 3 and Grade 6 teachers and the Administration
presented to a group of parents to provide, those who are new to the EQAO
testing, information regarding this assessment and evaluation process.
We addressed and discussed the following:
Purpose of the EQAO:
The objective of the EQAO is for teachers and administrators to reflect on
students’ strengths and identify areas of need. The EQAO results increase
accountability, enhance teacher practices and improve student
achievement. We use the data to set goals and objectives for our School
Improvement Plan, planning of our PLC and Long Term Plans.
Teachers’ game plan:
Teachers will review tests from previous years in the classroom. They will
provide practice tests to students on a regular basis. Each classroom
teacher will ensure to promote a supportive and stress free environment for
the students in the classroom (assure students that the results of the EQAO
will NOT go on their report card). Lastly, teachers will ensure that all
students will be provided the required accommodations (i.e., scribing, extra
time, computer options, larger font, quiet space etc.).
How can parents help?
Ensure they eat a good breakfast and have a healthy lunch
Ensure they go to bed in good time
If you would like you may download some of the questions from
the EQAO website
Do NOT tell your children that their results will be part of their
report card
Do NOT tell your children that their results have an impact for
getting into university
As a team, we believe that our students will be successful during this
assessment process. Your continuous support is very much appreciated. If
further clarification is needed please do not hesitate to contact Mme L.
Taillefer.

Bowmore Make It Fair, Saturday April 9, 2016: 11am-3pm
Bowmore Public School, Senior Gym
On Saturday April 9, 2016, the Bowmore Make It Fair will be returning to Bowmore Road Public School for an afternoon of
learning, hacking, crafting and every kind of "making stuff." The event is a blast for kids and adults alike. We’ll be celebrating our growing "maker" community by showcasing local talent and introducing you to organizations that can help you make it! We are in search of local artists, crafters and makers to participate in our one-day event. If you have a project that you’ve made or a skill that you’d like to share, let us know! If you want to help us pull it all together or help at the lunch sale table, let us know
about that, too!
For more info check out our Facebook Page facebook.com/bowmoremakeitfair
or contact us at [email protected]
Volunteers Needed For The Bowmore Make It Fair Saturday, April 9: 11am-3pm
We're looking for volunteers to help make this event a great success by helping at the following activity tables:
Beach Community Edible Garden Activity Table, led by Bowmore parent Kristin Lindell. Volunteers will help set up & run the
"plant a seed" activity.
Toy Hacking Table - some crafting/DIY experience helpful. Volunteers will help kids build "new" toys from donated broken/old
toys, mostly by using a hot glue gun to stick pieces together and perhaps some sewing.
Food Table, led by Bowmore parent Michelle Aarts. Volunteers will help with set up, serving, money exchange, clean up.
Cardboard Craft Table
If you're looking for another way to contribute, the Make It! Fair also needs your culinary skills!
Donations of savory foods like soup, chili, and breads are needed.
Please email me if you're interested in helping by contributing your time or your savory food donation.

Safety Alert!
This is a kind reminder that
parent pick-up and drop-off before
and after school must be done in
front of the pathway located on
Wrenson Ave on the south side
of the school and west of the
parking lot.
We have approximately 50 cars
that come in and out of the
parking lot thus making it
dangerous when dropping off
children. The Bowmore parking
lot is solely used by staff and
visitors.
Let’s work together to ensure that
our students remain safe by
making safety our # 1 objective.
Thank you on behalf of the
Bowmore Road Staff!

PICK-UP
The Direct Donation Pilot Project is now completed. Total funds raised = $4,750.
Many thanks to parents who donated funds to support this pilot project and have
shown that a direct donation program is a viable fundraising option for the
2016/2017 school year! Also, thanks to all Bowmore teachers for their patience
and support in launching this program, to Principal Lori McKay for allowing us
to venture forward with it, to Monica Curtis for the beautiful brochures and
printing, the many parents who provided feedback in our focus group, and the
Bowmore School Council for supporting the project.
Participating parents were surveyed to indicate their preference for allocating
funds raised by direct donation.
Survey Results:
27.2% - Where Most Needed
14.4% - School Trips
12.8% - Science/Technology
11.2% - Extra Curricular/Arts
10.4% - Music
9.6% - Physical Education/Aquatics
7.2% - Math
3.2% - Literacy

MARCH 2015 BOWMORE P.S. APRIL 2016
My class had the best time ever! Mr. Munroe’s class, Room 310, went
to see the Toronto Marlies and the Binghamton Senators! To get there,
we took the TTC all the way to the Exhibition Place and Ricoh
Coliseum.
When we got into the game, our class took the stairs all the way up to
our box seats! Everybody had a great time! We saw a lot of goals and
the Marlies beat the Senators 3-1!
Our class had the whole day at the Marlies game! We had the best
time! We had poutine, pizza, chocolate and popcorn! We also got flags
and big foam fingers to wave and cheer! Some of us even made
banners to show our spirit and cheer on the Marlies!
After the game, we met two players from the Marlies - T.J. Foster and
Jeremy Morin. A few of us even got to play mini-sticks against them!
We also got them to autograph souvenirs and took some pictures! Erika
even got to meet a Senators player, which is her favourite team.
All in all, the day was fantastic!

Grade 1 to 6 students were
part of a Pilot project where they were given the
opportunity to develop their creative minds through Visual
Arts. The success of this
initiative inspired us to have a second session. We look
forward to seeing their final products. Stay tune!

APRIL 13TH
, INTERNATIONAL
DAY OF PINK
On April 13 we celebrate The International Day of Pink. A
day of action, born when a youth in a high school in Cambridge.
Nova Scotia was bullied because he wore a pink shirt to school. His
fellow students decided to stand up to bullying; and hundreds of
students came to school wearing pink to show support for diversity
and stopping discrimination, gender-based bullying, homophobia
and transphobia.
On this day our students and staff will be
wearing pink in support of diversity.
The International Day of Pink is more than just a symbol
of a shared belief in celebrating diversity - it's also a commitment
to being open minded, to being understanding of differences and to
learning to respect each other.
