Walking out the FINISH Commitment In order for the Church of God to FINISH the Great Commission we must make a threefold commitment to I ntercede.

First, through the truths of Scripture, the church must come to understand the meaning of intercession. Intercessory prayer can never be a general prayer; it is focused prayer. The church must intercede for individuals who have not heard or received the gospel of Jesus Christ. Likewise, the church must intercede for the hurting members of the body of Christ.

Second, according to the will of the Father, the church must become one with Jesus in intercession. Since his ascension, intercession is the primary ministry of Jesus. The church must follow the example of Jesus during his time on earth: preaching, teaching, and healing. The church must also enter into the present ministry of Jesus who now sits at the Father’s right hand making intercession.

Third, in the Holy Spirit, the church must passionately embrace and practice the ministry of intercession. Not only does the Bible describe the present ministy of Jesus as intercession, it also emphasizes the intercession of the Holy Spirit. (Romans 8:26-27) How the church prays in the Spirit may take on any of the following four manners.

1) Praying in an unknown tongue - 1 Corinthians 14:13, 2) Praying in one’s own language with a spiritual unction from the Holy Spirit.3) Allowing the Spirit to make intercession through and for us with groanings which cannot be uttered - Romans 8:26. 4) Crying out with the Spirit of adoption, especially in times of fear, “Abba, Father” - Romans 8:15.
