APRIL 30, 2017 THIRD SUNDAY OF EASTER
THE LORD IS RISEN, ALLELUIA, ALLELUIA!
This is a proclamation of joy, of hope, of triumph. But is it normal to feel sad, disappointed and confused in this highpoint of our faith? It is.
It is normal to feel sad specially if you have lost someone special. That was why the two disciples in this weekend’s Gospel episode, who have become close to the Lord, were in serious mourning as they trek the road to Emmaus, a village some 12 miles away from Jerusalem.
It is normal to feel disappointed when your hopes are dashed. These two disciples pinned their hopes on Jesus and knowing that He was now dead, they felt desolate as they traced their way back home.
It is normal to be confused when you are faced with events you cannot understand. The two disciples did not know why things happened the way they did and what would happen next. Their confusion blinded them to the real identity of their newfound companion on the road.
But it is even more normal for God to intervene when He sees His people falling into sadness, despair and confusion. The Lord Jesus joined them because He knew they needed a companion on the dark path they were walking. Jesus caught up with them because He knew they needed someone to support and encourage them, to lift up their sagging spirits.
In His patience, the Lord Jesus leads His two friends to a gradual realization that in fact, He was now risen, alive and powerful, as He once promised. He patiently explained the fulfillment of the promises in Scripture. He patiently celebrated with them the sacred meal He established. It is then that the disciples re-gained their senses and recognized the presence of the Risen Lord. He is not dead, but is alive forever!
The Gospel this weekend is a very powerful portrayal of how our God deals with us. He walks with us in our daily pains and difficulties. He joins us in our journey through the dark moments of life, in order to lead us to the brightness of His promises and His presence. Today, He walks with us in the Eucharist where, as be-fore, He breaks open His Word before us and offers us the bread and wine to become His Body and Blood.
May the Easter season greet us with joy, even amidst sadness, disappointment and confusion. Let us be sensitive to our companion, our friend, the God who intervenes and enters into our journey of faith, with our hearts aflame within us. Let us go forth in joy, proclaiming to others the God who comes to our aid. Like them, let us be instruments of the proclamation that God does not abandon His people, that He comes to heal our wounds and lift up our spirits, especially on our own daily roads leading to Emmaus.
Happy Easter Rev. John Carillo

MAY, THE MONTH OF MARY
MAY CROWING OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MOTHER This Friday, May 5st at the 8:00am Mass and also at all Masses next weekend. This Christian custom of dedicating the month of May to the Blessed Virgin arose at the end of the 13th century. In this way, the Church was able to Christianize the secular feasts which were wont to take place at that time. May crownings and other special May events in honor of Mary, such as public recitation of the rosary, stem from this time.
Shoes of Peace Holy Saturday April 15, 2017 our Holy Mother Our Lady of Fatima allowed us to cherish the moments of the sun as we walked, prayed the Holy Rosary and sang songs. God teaches that our steps do not falter (Psalms 37:31. We left our footprints along Encinal Avenue and Central Avenue to bring comfort and peace to the earth and families. As we commit ourselves to the Lord we become one spirit with him. Our Faithful life on Earth commands that we pray universally for the whole world then we will see “Thy will be done on Earth as it is in heaven.” We are to put into action on this world all the energies and means to serve and to render peace. Along the trail of life we meet with smiles and we meet with tears, sometimes the days are sunny and sometimes sadness and strife. But, there can be no rainbow without the drops of rain and there can be no healing without the pangs of pain. We need to saturate our minds in the Cross Roads of Life with the balance of nature. Shoes of Peace gives us courage while on the trail of life to know that tribulations works patience, and patience, Experience, and experience, hope for peace on Earth as we leave Our Footprints and to allow the mighty hand of God to create powerful miracles. May the God of hope fill each of you with all the Joy and Peace in believing so that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit for Peace. Dr. Terecita L. Dean, Legion of Mary ROSARY FOR OUR LADY OF FATIMA - MAY 13TH AT 4 PM. Please join the Knights of Columbus with the help of other St. Joseph ministries in commemorat-ing the 100th Anniversary of the appearance of Our Lady of Fatima on Saturday, May 13th at 4 pm in the Basilica. We will recite a special Rosary in multiple languages and with song.
