PRESIDENT’S WELCOME LETTER

Welcome to sunny Newport Beach, CA!

Newport Beach is home to the largest recreational harbor on the west coast, offering fishing, shopping, dining, aquatic sports activities, and so much more. It will serve as the perfect backdrop to PEARL’s 20th Annual Electrical Safety, Reliability and Sustainability Conference & Exhibition, where we have more to offer and share with you this year.

2017 marks PEARL’s 20th annual conference and exhibition, a milestone that proves PEARL’s longevity and relevance to the industry and to our members. We are very proud of this achievement and have some fun things up our sleeves to help commemorate this with you. If it wasn’t for your support, we would not be able to do what we do, so thank you, and we look forward to another 20 years!

This year also marks a huge step in PEARL’s history, as we’ll be launching a brand new look and feel through an updated logo, a revised name, and a soon-to-launch new website. We have been very busy over the past year and look forward to sharing with you these important updates at the business meeting on Thursday, April 6, and throughout the weekend.

And we also have a great conference lined up! This year we incorporated a subtheme of disaster recovery, as our companies offer unique and sometimes imperative services to bring businesses and municipalities back online in a quick and efficient manner. Our keynote speaker this year, Chloe Demrovsky, Executive Director, Disaster Recovery Institute (DRI), Inc., will be focusing on this theme and providing tools and resources to help your companies be seen as a viable option in a time of disaster. There will be several other presentations throughout the conference that will expand on this topic and provide personal insight on how their companies have succeeded in these crucial times.

We are also continuing our successful preconference workshops, which provide additional educational and training opportunities for higher level managers and technicians. These two workshops occur Friday, April 7, from 8:00 am –12:00 pm and provide a more intimate setting for conversation, sharing of ideas, and hands-on experiences. Read on for more details and register at the registration desk. We will continue our technician training on Saturday, April 8, by offering a full day of hands-on education, which will be held at ROMAC’s facilities.

But these conferences aren’t just about education; we have to have a little fun along the way, too! We have brought back site visits this year, where we will be visiting with MGM Transformer and ROMAC on Friday evening. ROMAC will then be hosting us for a great reception. On Saturday, we have a great day program lined up for guests who wish to get out and explore Newport Beach, followed by an evening on the water with a yacht cruise. Be sure to sign up for these events by visiting the registration desk.

And finally, we must thank our important sponsors and exhibitors. This was a record year for us in terms of support brought in and we could not be more humbled and thankful. A very big thank you goes to our Gold Level Sponsors: Circuit Breaker Sales, National Switchgear, RG Industries, and ROMAC. Be sure to visit with all of our exhibitors during your breaks and food functions!

We hope this year’s conference brings something new to you. We appreciate your support and look forward to talking with you throughout the weekend!

Sincerely,

Doug Powell

This workshop will provide you with the necessary skills to tackle those scenarios.

CONFERENCE AGENDA

1:15pm – 2:30pm Keynote Address — Resilience is a Competitive Advantage: How to Be a Reliable Supplier Chloe Demrovsky, Executive Director, DRI International SALON A SPONSORED BY ROMAC

Supply Chain Management has become an essential part of business continuity and risk management for companies of all sizes. The ability to meet demand for products and services relies upon being able to create an end-to-end process that can withstand the many causes of disruption that we face today. Whether it be natural weather conditions, terrorism, political and economic upheaval, our preparation must consider all the elements necessary to maintain the viability of our operations. Recently we have been faced with a new form of supply chain

management challenges; the rash of cyber security incursions that emanate from within our own supply chain, posing perhaps the most serious threat of all.

This presentation will provide actual supply chain case studies using examples from the arena of critical infrastructure. It will focus specifically on what small and medium-sized enterprises can do to demonstrate their resilience to their large enterprise customers, thus gaining a competitive advantage over the competition while also making themselves more prepared. It will also provide tools and resources that will facilitate this process.

2:45pm - 3:45pm The NEC and NEMA: Industry Recognition of Remanufactured Equipment Christel Hunter, CStd, Director of Codes and Standards, Cerro Wire SALON A

The 2017 NEC now explicitly recognizes remanufactured, refurbished, and reconditioned equipment. In response to this recognition and the recent efforts of PEARL to publish ANSI standards for reconditioning equipment, the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) held a series of meetings between original equipment manufacturers and remanufacturers. A NEMA position paper on reconditioned equipment was published in late 2016. Both the implications of the 2017 NEC changes and the NEMA position will be discussed.

Objectives: 1. Identify changes to the 2017 NEC for reconditioned equipment. 2. Interpret key items from the NEMA position paper. 3. Differentiate between standards requirements and industry recommendations.

3:45pm – 4:30pm Exhibitor Welcome Reception SALON BCD

Join PEARL and the 2017 exhibitors for the opening of the exhibit hall. PEARL will also be celebrating its 20th anniversary with a special treat!

This session will discuss the details required to put your company in the best possible position to be the supplier of choice. Topics covered will include marketing, sales efforts, and the types of service companies in which to partner. Also, the types of equipment most needed during a typical recovery and items typically repaired versus replaced will be covered.

Objectives: 1. Understanding of typical equipment needed during a disaster recovery 2. Understand who to partner with 3. Understand how to go to market prior to an actual event
