We believe in safe boating -
take an Arrowhead class
I have attended several District Conferences. I went to the first one be-cause Arrowhead was hosting the Conference and Wendy Sherwood spear-headed the team of volunteers who put on a great Conference in the Desertfor then District Commander Ronnie Mann. I have learned a lot about USPSfrom these Conferences and they have been fun weekends. We just had our
Spring Conference in Ventura at the marina and it was another fun weekend. Several of the Squadrons hosted hospitalityrooms with island themes. Arrowhead had been given the island of Moorea, one of the Society Islands, 12 milesnorthwest of Tahiti, so we researched the island and had an information display and we decorated the room with a largebeach mural, colorful paper birds, tiki’s, etc. Rick made a great rum punch; Wendy made her now famous banana desert;Hal brought a lavish vegetable spread; and Carri cooked the meats; and we adorned everyone who entered with colorfulleis Our room was a hit and we took photos of couples in a cut-out of a surfer and a hula girl, printed them that night andgave them out at the Saturday dinner-dance. As always, it was Arrowhead who reved up the dance floor and it wasArrowhead that kept the party and dancing going until late Saturday night! Every member is invited to these DistrictConferences - they are not just for Bridge Officers. There are useful seminars and many fun activities not related toboating, so there is something for everyone. We have members from the National Bridge attend and we therefore get upto date information on USPS generally, and they always answer our questions. The next District Conference will be inthe fall in Redondo Beach, right on the water. When the dates are confirmed, please mark them down, make your hotelreservations, and join in the fun! Arrowhead has a strong and positive presence at Conferences. Let’s keep it up.

VESSEL EXAMINER CORNER
The first scheduled activity for Arrowhead’s small band of Vessel Safety Examiners willbe on both weekends of SafeBoating Week. This year’s Safe Boating Week runs from May 21 through Memorial Day, May 30.
Chairman Pat Rogers will take the first weekend at Lake Silverwood’s Main gate and on the closing weekend(Memorial Day) Rick Sherwood will run the inspections at Lake Silverwood while Pat opens the Vests For Life boothat Lake Perris’s Launch Ramp and offers VSCs there. All examiners will report to either Rick or Pat on the week-end days they are able to help at either lake.
Any Squadron member wishing to join our merry little band is invited to take the on-line class prior to Safe BoatingWeek and then join either group to do their 6 initial exams under one of our experienced examiners.
Our current examiners now have their 2011 VSC stickers so any Squadron member wishing to have their boat(s)checked should contact Pat Rogers (909-867-5361) to schedule a Vessel Safety Check.

I know we all enjoyed our presentation at the March meet-ing by Bob Tincher, P.E., of the San Bernardino MunicipalWater District, which was most informative and memo-rable. I’m anticipating that our guest for our April meetingwill be just as educational and fun only in a slightly differ-ent vein.
Our presenter for our April meeting will be Kevin Craigwho, along with his wife Carolyn, operates the Winery andWine Bar at Canyon Crest, which is located in Riverside inthe Canyon Crest Shopping Centre at the corners of Can-yon Crest and Central Avenues. Kevin will be educatingus on the finer points of wine making plus he will be bring-ing several different types of wine for your discerning pal-
ates to pass judgment upon. If you wish to participate inthe wine tasting we are asking you to contribute $3.00at the door to help cover the costs of the various wines.Exact greenbacks are appreciated.
Continue to bear in mind that if there are programs thatyou believe would be of interest to our fine group of nau-tical notables, contact me and we’ll see if we can get apresentation scheduled. This is your Arrowhead and yourthoughts are needed and welcomed. My home phone is951-787-9842 and email is [email protected]. I lookforward to hearing from you and seeing you at the nextmeeting on Wednesday, April 13.
The Ship members are currently checking their calendars (school, musical, dance and otheractivities) to see if they can fit in the Lake Mojave Cruise starting in April. They are also making plans to attend otherSea Scout and Venture activities throughout the summer months. Long and short Cruises (both paddle & sail),Summer Camp, Vests For Life weekends and other activities are in the planning stages.

66Aquatic Invasive Species Report from Wyoming G&F Dept.(Quagga & Zebra Mussels)
Cheyenne - The 1st boating season under Wyoming’s new Aquatic Invasive Species legislation was deemed a suc-cess based on the number of boats inspected, AIS decal sales, and overall cooperation from boaters. From may 22 through September 26th, Wyoming Game & Fish Department personnel inspected more than 42,000watercraft at 36 waters across Wyoming. According to AIS coordinator Beth Bear, the majority were standardinspections. “Only 58 of the total inspections were considered high-risk, while the remainder were standard and exitinspections. Of the high-risk there were 23 de-contaminations and none were found to have live invasivemussels.”…….”As the season progressed more & more boaters were following the Drain, Clean & Dry proce-dure…..” More than 40 waters were checked for larval, juvenile and adult mussels. Half these results were negative;final results are expected later this year. The Wyoming legislature launched the AIS program last spring with a $1.5 million appropriation. The Game & FishDept. the passed an emergency regulation that entitled the department to take immediate action. The departmentimplemented watercraft inspections and decal sales. Fees are: $10 for Wyoming non-motorized watercraft and $30for out-of-state motorized watercraft. Non-motorized Wyoming watercraft fees are $5 and out-of-state watercraftare $15. Inflatable watercraft > 10' are exempt BUT must be inspected (this includes waders). 35,000 decals weresold and the program raised $446,385 to date. staff report to Wyoming Wildlife magazine

Reservations at Two Harbors
Recently I had the opportunity to chat with the newHarbor Master for Two Harbors about the reservation systemfor moorings that is set to begin Memorial weekend.
First of all, there will still be some first-come first-servedmoorings set aside each weekend. Reservations will only beavailable online beginning midnight on Thursday for the imme-diately upcoming weekend. The mooring leaseholders have untilthat time to notify the harbor master if they will be using theirmooring. If you log into the reservation website on Fridaymorning (anytime after 12:01 am) you will have the opportunityto pre-pay for a mooring, and you will be guaranteed a spot. You will not be able to pre-select your spot. Anyone who ar-rives at the Isthmus on Thursday (or before) should be able tokeep a mooring through the weekend.
There are no plans to change the reservation systemfor the string line from what it has been in prior years.
As we see how the new system works, please feelfree to provide feedback to the Harbormaster.
Let’s go BOATING!!!
