There is in all living nature an urge to grow. The butterfly’s stages of growth may be more dramatic than ours, yet we do change with the years. Our bodies grow and change of course but our souls develop also. There is, however, a peculiar human capacity to resist that growth of spirit, to shrink back, to want things to be easy and familiar. We can choose to let the Spirit of God grant us rebirth. The energy crisis was not just a natural problem, but a personal one. God gives to those who ask and are open the power to become new creatures. THE CIRCUIT RIDER

Vol. 16, No. 4 April 2016

FROM THE PASTOR

The Monarch butterfly is a summer favorite, with its brown

and orange coloring and intricate designs. It is hard to

imagine that this frail creature battles buffeting winds and

storms to migrate, like the birds, in autumn. Its wings beat

so slowly and lightly it seems impossible it can cover the

thousands of miles to its winter grounds. What a thrill to

observe these creatures in all of their transformed radiance.

The butterfly speaks of Easter and of life. God has written

into our lives stages in growth just as he has into the

caterpillar that evolves into the butterfly. There is in all

living nature an urge to grow. The butterfly’s stages of

growth may be more dramatic than ours, yet we do change

with the years. Our bodies grow and change of course but

our souls develop also. There is, however, a peculiar human

capacity to resist that growth of spirit, to shrink back, to

want things to be easy and familiar.

We can choose to let the Spirit of God grant us rebirth. The

energy crisis was not just a natural problem, but a personal

one. God gives to those who ask and are open the power to

become new creatures.

(From the Pastor continued)

The same message of growth and change that holds for life also

holds for death. The butterfly’s chrysalis is a kind of death. Yet

new life springs from the old, new powers allow the new

creation to shed the old body and emerge in new beauty.

What a perfect Easter season (yes season—the resurrection

message lasts until the Day of Pentecost). New life for old. In

his new life Jesus said, “I go and prepare a place for you—and

you—and you.

Together in service,

Pastor Linda

Addi?onal Informa?on

COMING SOON

TO A NARTHEX NEAR YOU!

OUTREACH OUTPOST!

Our Outreach/Mission Commi2ee has been approved by Church Council to establish a

centralized loca8on where all Outreach and Missions collec8ons, informa8on, etc. will be

housed and readily available for church family members to become involved in the latest about

projects and agencies we support.

The commi2ee is charged with transforming the coat room on the south (leH) side of the

narthex for this purpose. New ligh8ng and room arrangement will be employed in making this

a place where all are welcome to check on what’s going on in this work area.

We will refer to this room as our “OUTREACH OUTPOST”.

One of our ini8al collec8ons will be “Kits for Conference”. Kits lists will be published soon so

that you can shop for individual components, complete an en8re kit, or support this UMCOR

project by dona8ng financially. If you prefer for us to do the shopping, we can do that! All

completed kits will be boxed and taken to Virginia Annual Conference in late June by

Pastor Ray. Sample kits will be on display in our new OUTREACH OUTPOST.

We an8cipate holding an “Open House” for this area soon! Plan to stop by as the redesign of

this area progresses.
