When you place your order it is imperative that you order the right components the first

time. A change to the APS system on a chassis order in the schedule may be costly, but a

change to the APS system after the chassis is assembled will be very costly all components

are serial numbered and cannot be returned for credit or be reused. Before the order is placed

make sure you have taken into account all dealer or OEM installed items that will be added to

the cab interior.

When these new compartment clearance options are selected on your order, Spartan Chassis

will provide crew area side curtain air bags of the proper size to deploy without interference

with the OEM installed compartments in the cab. If these options are not used the air bags

provided will be full size and will not deploy properly due to compartment interference.

The images that follow show what options to select based on where OEM installed

compartments will be located.

APS Air Bag Deployment Clearance To ensure that the chassis we provide has adequate

air bag deployment clearance for the completed

apparatus configuration, SparCON now has options in

the following subcategories:

1542 LH Exterior EMS Mid Compartment

1347 Interior Rear Wall Compartment

In addition to these options for compartments, the OEMs and dealers need to be aware of

additional areas that need to be left clear for air bag deployment.

The following images show the areas that need to be left clear in the drivers area, the officers

area, and in the crew area for proper air bag deployment.

IMPORTANT: Failure to keep these areas clear of any object will result in incomplete air bag

deployment reducing the effectiveness of the Advanced Protection System.

ESC Matrix Update Wabco has completed additional testing to open up approved tandem chassis configurations

equipped with ESC and large water tanks.

The updated rules now allow up to 4000 gallon water tanks with wheelbases from 196 to

304. The new ESC rules allowing the shorter wheelbases and larger water tanks are included

in the February SparCON update.

Metro Star 4x4 Now VIS 1 The Metro Star 4x4 has been made VIS1 in this February SparCON release. In the 0104

Subcategory you will find option 0104-002 Axle Configuration 4x4 (Front & Rear Axle Drive)

available for selection.

SUPPORTED VERSIONS SparCON will allow the update of SparCON using the internal updater if your current version is 4.18.19 or newer. If you have an older version you must update by downloading the complete version of SparCON by using the website link below, or the link in the message that appears when youre update fails.

You must enter your SparCON user ID and email address and an email will be sent to you with a link to the download page. IMPORTANT: After updating the program by using this link you must have an internet connection present when you log in the first time.
