A “Bee-autiful” Day Meeting in April
Our very own Kathy Sargent-O’Neill put on a very informative power point program on the importance of bees as pollinators and how we can attract and protect them. She put so much time and research into this program, she could take it on the road as a guest speaker for other garden clubs! Kudos to Kathy!
Artistic Design Based On A Plate
Sally Zeghibe stepped in and did the design based on a plate of her choice. The plate to be placed to the side of the design. Choice of traditional or creative style. Staged in a space 30” high by 20” wide by 20” deep. Lovely
design Sally!
Artistic Design Inspired by A Piece of Art Supplied by Designer
Sally Baer chose to interpret a piece of needlepoint she designed. Traditional or Creative, staged in a space 30” high by 20” wide by
20” deep. Sally’s design was under water, which she very candidly admitted had its flaws.

GCFM Southeastern District Annual Meeting
The Aptucxet Garden Club was well represented at this meeting with three tables of club members attending. We were treated to being present for the 2016 Southeast District Standard Flower Show Awards, two going to our own members: Bobbie Lingard receiving the District Director Award and Alda Barron receiving the William F. Clark Award. Congratulations Bobbie and Alda!!

Floral Demonstration
Judy Sheehy was one of four designers who took part in a floral demonstration interpreting whimsical, bold, fantastic or peaceful designs. We were asked to vote on which interpretation the designer chose. Judy’s was the bold design. Nicely done!
Floribunda Award
At the Southeastern District Annual Luncheon on April 20th, the Floribunda Award for our club was presented to Laura Bergeron! This award recognizes members who make significant contributions to their club. Laura was cited for her role in establishing the Evening Group, for her long-time dedication to Junior Gardeners and for her work with seniors at the Bourne Community Center. Congratulations Laura!
A Very Big Thank You!
The Aptucxet Garden Club would like to thank Bob and Kit Nelson for their very generous donation to our club.
We certainly appreciate all that you do for us!

Junior Garden Club News At Bournedale Elementary School
The 2017 Junior Gardeners’ Club is being planned for Thursday May 11th,, 18th and 25th from 3-4pm. Each Thursday twelve third graders will meet after school to create their own Mother’s Day Floral arrangement, Fairy Garden, Pizza Garden or Bird house to take home. Support for helping guide the students is needed for an hour on the above dates. It ends up being a lot of fun. The more volunteers we have, the more fun for everyone! Contact Sally Curtin for more details.
Horticulture Tips for our Small-Standard Flower Show
May 10th
The time has come! After close to two years of planning, the show will go on! Designers are designated and ready to go. Now all we need are you members to come forward with horticulture from your gardens. Look for possible specimens a few days before. Use that time to research botanical names of those specimens. Help will be available on show day, but find as much information as you can. Use your address labels if you have entry cards or bring them with you. Condition your specimen(s) by watering in the morning and cutting in the afternoon the day before the show. Please give it a try so that we can have an impressive array of plant material.
*Point of interest - If displaying tulips, they must have two leaves attached.
Thank you, Judy Sheehy Plant And Bake Sale

Hello Fellow Gardeners,
The forecast for rain this Wednesday is causing us to postpone our first garden visit from April 26th to May 3rd, at 6 pm. It will be at Connie Spilhaus’s expansive grounds near Gray Gables, 85 Monument Neck Road. Please RSVP to Connie and me. I believe she will have the gate opened for you, but if not, she will forward the gate code to all who RSVP.
As mentioned earlier, these visits will only be successful if we have a good turnout of Visitors to offer friendly advice. I hope at least half of you can turn out for each scheduled visit. Please read the attachment, to see how we can be most helpful to Connie.
Please put the visits listed below on your calendar: Wednesday, May 3rd 6 pm Connie Spilhaus Wednesday June 7th 6 pm Kari Torpey Monday June 12th 12 noon Jane Urso Wednesday June 21st 6 pm Marjorie Dienhart Monday June 26th 12 noon Chris Crane Wednesday July 7th 6 pm Monday July 10th 12 noon Cheryl Keown Wednesday July 19th 6 pm Laura Bergeron Monday July 24th 12 noon Wednesday Aug. 2nd 6 pm Monday Aug. 7th 12 noon Wednesday Aug. 16th 6 pm Monday Aug. 21st 12 noon Wednesday Aug. 30th 6 pm
If your name is not on the schedule and you would like a visit, please email me with your preferred date. If you are blind-copied on this email and have not replied to earlier Ask/Answer emails, it is not too late to get on the 2017 schedule.
Some of you have wondered why the visits are not scheduled earlier in the planting season, when they would be more helpful for THIS year’s garden. Here are some reasons:
1. The visits are intended to show your garden at its best/worst, in mid-season full flower, so it is easier for non-experts, like some of us, to understand your issues. The visits are a good way for friends to bridge the summer season, when AGC and BNN are not having regular meetings.
2. The visits are a good way for friends to bridge the summer season, when AGC and BNN are not having regular meetings.
3. The visits are not intended to compete with the busy gardening demands of Spring, but rather give us some Summer gardening entertainment, after the most labor-intensive planting season is over.
4. Patience is the hallmark of a gardener; these visits are intended inspire next year’s planning and planting, rather than this year's.
OK, enough for one email.
Yours, Cheryl Keown

May Road Trip to Allen Haskell Public Gardens
Allen Haskell Public Gardens is a six acre park located in New Bedford, MA. This unique property was purchased in 2012 by The Trustees of Reservations, who are in the process of restoring many facets of this property. The landscaped features of this park were developed over the past 30 years by this renowned horticulturalist. There is an unusual combination of historic structures, open space and landscaped grounds.
The park is free and open to the public daily. Due to our busy schedule at the garden club, I think that the best time to visit would be a date after the plant sale. Let me know if you are interested in a "road trip" to New Bedford. Let me know which you prefer weekday or evening or weekend.
