What is a verb?

• Verbs show action in a sentence.

• I talk in class.• He fishes.• We sail.• The students graduate.

Verb Conjugation• When a verb is conjugated it means that the verb now has a

subject and a tense.• To talk

is not conjugated, we don’t know who is talking.• She talks

is conjugated, we know who is talking.

Infinitives• When a verb is NOT conjugated, it is in the infinitive form. (no

subject, no tense)• Infinitive forms of verbs always begin with “TO.”

Spanish Infinitive Verbs

• In Spanish, all infinitive verbs will end in

-ar, -er, -ir

Spanish Pronouns

• yo - I• tú - you (familiar)• usted - you (formal)• él - he• ella - she• no pronoun for “it”

• nosotros - we• vosotros - you all (familiar)• ustedes - you all (formal) • ellos - they• ellas - they (all feminine)

When conjugating verbs in Spanish, the following endings are used.

Memorize these verb endings.

To conjugate an “ar” verb• drop the “ar” from the end of the infinitive• hablar > habl• add the endings for “ar” verbs.
