DAS R3115 consisted of two (2) aqueous samples and four (4)associated field blanks submitted to the Chemtech Laboratory(CHEM) for low concentration volatile organics analysis. Thesamples were analyzed as a Delivery of Analytical Services (DAS)project according to the .Superfund Analytical Method for LowConcentration Organics (10/92). . '""-•--.

All samples were successfully analyzed for all target volatilecompounds. All instrument and method sensitivities wereaccording to the specified method.

MINOR PROBLEM

o Several compounds failed the precision criteria during theinitial and continuing calibrations (%RSD, %D > 30%) . Thereported results for methylene chloride have been qualifiedWJH, unless superseded by the "B" qualifier subsequentlymentioned. The precision values for the other compoundswere not grossly exceeded (< 50%) and their quantitationlimits were not qualified. See Table I in Appendix E.

NOTES

The laboratory incorrectly reported in the case narrativethe dates of sample receipt as March 3 and 4, 1995 insteadof May 3 and 4, 1995. This discrepancy has been rectifiedduring the data validation by correcting the case narrative,

o During the analysis of*the fiald and laboratory blanks, thefollowing compounds were detected at tha maximumconcentrations given below. Tha reported results for thesecompounds in tha affected samples which are < lOx tha commonlaboratory blank contaminant concentrations or < 5x- thaother blank contaminant concentrations have been qualified»B».

* Common Laboratory Contaminant

o The laboratory incorrectly reported on Form 7A (continuingcalibration)- tha %D for 2-hexanone as 106 which has beencorrected to 10.6 during the data validation.

o No Tentatively Identified Compound (TIC) was detected duringthe analysis of these samples. See Forms IB in Appendix D.

All data for DAS R3115 were reviewed, in accordance with thaNational Functional Guidelines for Evaluating Organic andInorganic Analyses with modification for use within Region III.The text of the report addresses only those problems affectingusability.ATTACHMENTS

GLOSSARY OF DATA QUALIFIER CODES (ORGANIC)

CODES RELATING TO IDENTIFICATION(confidence concerning presence or absence of compounds)

U a Not detected. The associated number indicatesapproximate sample concentration necessary to bedetected.

NO CODE =» Confirmed identification,B = not detected substantially above the level reported

in laboratory or field blanks.R = Unusable result. Analyte may or may not be present

in the sample. Supporting data necessary toconfirm result.

N =» Tentative identification. Consider present.Special methods may be needed to confirm itspresence or absence in future sampling efforts.

CODES RELATED 2Q OUANTITATION(can be used for both positive results and samplequantitation limits):

J =» Analyte present. Reported value may not beaccurate or precise.

K = Analyte present. Reported value may be biasedhigh. Actual value is expected to be lower.

L =* Analyte present. Reported value may be biased low.Actual value is expected to be higher.

UJ = Not detected, quantitation limit may be inaccurateor imprecise.

UL =* Not detected, quantitation limit is probablyhigher.

OTHER CODES

NJ = Qualitative identification questionable djue to poorresolution. Presumptively present at approximatequantity.

Q =» No analytical result. • ^
